We will play. This water is insane and I might need to cancel my tailgate tomorrow because I have about 20 maintenance requests right now for roof leaks or flooding...but when it actually stops raining, water disappears rather quickly on the roads although this amount of water, who knows.

RU has to make a choice by no later than 6 am whether to play as scheduled or postpone to Friday/Saturday night. There are fans that arrive at the buttcrack of dawn for tailgates and they can't be turned away last minute.

just curious. I asked earlier in the thread if it was possible game gets cancelled. All you responded was NO

Now you say you agree..it’s too early to determine if it will be played or not.

what changed in you thinking the past hour or so?
I haven't changed my mind at all, as I don't think the game will be cancelled, which is what I just said. My original "no" was me being pithy.

Curious about the intensity. Seems like we got all of it in 5 hours. I remember Floyd as an all day event.
I recall Floyd being about 8-10 hours and this was 5-6 hours, so this was probably a little more intense, but I'd need to see actual Floyd rate data to be sure - I was bailing out window wells for hours during Floyd, lol..

That’s fine..you don’t think it will.,,but you seem to think it’s possible…as you agreed it’s too early to make a decision.

When you didn’t earlier..hence you “pithy” no. That’s just what confused me

Anything is possible - I'm not an absolutist (no good scientist should be) - but I'd say we're at a 1% chance of being postponed, which is very close to no. When I'm posting in 6 places, sometimes I get pithy, but my thinking is unchanged.

Are you saying canceled as in not played or is postponed a possibility

Sure they can.
Ok smart ***. Point is when you have fans driving an hour or more away for the game, they need advance notice on situations like this. I think 6 or 7 am is reasonable enough to decide if the game will be played as scheduled or if it gets postponed.

I'm saying the game very likely will not be postponed; edited the post...
what time thursday with the Raritan reach peak flood stage? And tides in New Brunswick?

I guess I am suggesting that traffic to or from the stadium.. even if it is dry enough and the flood waters do not piece the stadium boundaries.. are we looking at stranded fans at teh stadium?

Hope @RUDiddy777 is ok

Cranford has areas that flood

And everyone else , it’s an insane amount of rain today

The flooding footage is crazy and heartbreaking

Hasn't been a fun night here. Basement is flooding, worried the pump is gonna die because it's running non-stop. Game may not be cancelled, but it might be for me if I have to deal with the aftermath.

Smart ***? I’m offended. Every part of me is smart, not just my ***. 😀

I got your point. My point is simply that RU could decide to cancel or reschedule at any point in the day, all the way up to game time. Not saying it’s a good thing to do. Just saying they could do it if they have a good reason to do so.

Pretty sure that, in RU’s considerations for what to do about the game, people arriving early to tailgate in lots not yet officially open is not something likely to be at the top of the list of decisive factors being weighed.

I agree that an early decision is better than a last minute decision. But I’d prioritize the correct late decision over an early bad decision.

Looks like the forecast peak is about 2pm. I don’t think stranded fans is likely. They might make early arrives at the stadium park up on the high side as a precaution though. Talking about stadium workers or whoever else might normally park on the river road side.

My heart goes out to OP. Imagine living your life in fear like that. We had some rain the day before a football game let’s cancel it

we have a clear leader in worst post of the year

You want to believe this go right ahead. The NWS is now the weather channel. Fact is we now live in a panic state all the time - one panic after another. How many times do we hear - this is the worst storm in history. When you live in fear you can be manipulated. It is "not" unprecedented!

Nah man, everything's fine.

This game should be moved to Friday or Saturday. The damage in the state is considerable and many first responders will not be able to work the game.

May roads remain flooded as well. The optices of playing this game while the State is under an Emergency also is not great.

As someone else stated a SOE is common practice now even for flurries, it means $$ from the federal govt. I don't know how many first responders need to actually be working at the game but I'm sure we will manage to find a few who can show up to work.

What do you mean by optics? I really wonder how some of you manage to get through life sometimes. Its not an earthquake or 9/11, we had some flooding which is not uncommon in many parts of the state. Those of us who live in flood prone areas are used to this kind of thing. Not sure what canceling the game is going to do to help anyone. The only reason it should be canceled is if their is no power or the roads to the stadium are too flooded for travel, which is not likely after 12 hours of no rain. Road flooding tends to disappear pretty quickly once the rain stops

Not sure how factual this is but CH 4 news has just stated the Raritan will be cresting within the hour and then stated "this is good news it will be receding all day"

I'm sure it is factual since thats typically what rivers do

Great that the flooding is starting to recede, but for those of us planning to travel to the game by train, it's a problem. NJ Transit suspended all rail lines other than the Atlantic City Line. Hopefully they will be back soon; otherwise, a lot of folks won't be able to get to the game.

The optics is people in the state are dealing with homes destroyed or flooded and local government having to repsond and then to have to play a college football game and divert resources to the game. The Optics and reality is not great.

Not necessarily, it could have been receding overnight, only to be on its way back up for a crest.

Bound Brook is 5 miles away and that crest is going to be this afternoon.

This shouldn’t be a difficult concept for someone who lives at the shore honestly.

Just posted in another thread. That’s good news if it’s cresting this early I would hope.
