IMO staff and coordinators, specifically the OC in our case, are going to be crucial to success. We've gone through this a little but not really much of a hint on who the OC might be and just a slight hint on the DC side.

DCs

I think someone said Fran Brown was reached out to by GS.

If he's not possible the Cincy DC Marcus Freeman is also a nice up and coming now I like and GS being in Ohio might not make that too much of a reach for coming into contact with him over the years. If Fickell gets a bigger job though he might go along but if not maybe obtainable.

OCs

Kevin Wilson ....if he's a possible 3rd wheel behind play caller Day and PGC Yurcich

Sean Gleeson at Ok State

Kevin Johns Memphis OC...worked with Wilson at IU, Kingsbury at TT and now Norvell at Memphis

Rhett Lashlee SMU OC....worked under Malzahn and now Dykes did a quick stint up at UConn to get out from under Malzahn and make a name for himself might want to do the same after Dykes

Graham Harrell if Helton is let go

Bill Bedenbaugh OU OL coach

Brian Wright Toledo

Will Hall Tulane

EDIT: Mentioned them later in the thread.

Phil Longo NJ guy UNC OC Leach disciple but never coached with him..don't know his UNC salary

Warren Ruggiero WF OC went to school in Delaware, coached at Hofstra/W&M and some solid offensive numbers the last 3 years didn't look back further than that...been OC for Clawson dating back to Bowling Green

i'd find it hard to believe he would hire a DC or OC that he hasn't worked with in some fashion in the past.

I can't see him hiring Fran Brown unless other candidates decline.

I actually kind of hope he runs the D for the first few seasons but that's unlikely.

Schiano has too much to do. He can't be a coordinator. Get haf, camp, or brown (in that order)

Well other than Wilson I don't know of any other spread coach he's worked with so if not him I hope he'll reach outside of his bubble.

I always caveat that about coaches who stick too much inside their little cocoons....sure you gather people you trust and have a familiarity with but don't be handicapped by that....familiarity is important but acumen more so specifically at the OC for him being a defensive coach.

Mike Gundy always likes to reach outside his bubble for OCs or look at Orgeron landing Joe Brady after some recommendation. I hope GS is willing to do the same.....get a suggestion from UM or Day/Wilson.

@gef21

Who are your 3 OC targets in order?

And what position on staff would you like?
Lol

Thanks

The more I think about it I want nunzio to get the OC job. I want this staff to be complete jersey juice.

And funny you ask that. I have skin in the game with one of the dcs that people want.

If I stop posting randomly when they announce the new dc you know why. Haha

It's kind of crazy to realize just how drastically different our budget will be for the assistants.

We're used to getting up and comers from like Hofstra or Delaware.

This time around it'll be guys from P5 programs thatll get close to ~1 mill (OC/DC).

This has never happened at Rutgers, even under Schiano before!

NC on the staff sure with whatever kind of title co-OC or what not but as sole play caller I'm apprehensive about that I'd rather him learn and work along side a more seasoned name.

I would like to see him hire an OC with more proven experience of being successful. I would also like to see them retain Nunzio.

Ideally, you pay a lot for a top offensive mind and give him the titles of Asst OC and Asst Head Coach (because they are completely running the O with little input from Schiano anyway). Then, you make Nunzio something like TE coach and give him the title of Asst OC as well, so he can continue to grow in the job and be set up to eventually become OC if the other guy moves on or for Nunzio to move on himself if a better opportunity opens up.

It would be nice now that we know Schiano is around a while if we can orchestrate some stability in our offensive coaching ranks for once.

Is the skin with 1 of the 3 DCs on the list you posted?

And does skin mean you are related to, have worked with, or are friends with 1 of those guys?

Hope u keep positing regardless of who they hire.
Need that jersey juice on these boards!

I have a connection to a person who would be a position coach for this dc. I am an off site defensive analyists for that person and potentially would be offered a defensive analyists position depending on how hires go. But that would be a big career change.

The word stability makes me excited right now.

Hafley wouldnt come as a head coach. Foolish to think he would come as a coordinator.
Brown at DC would be interesting. I’d take an OC from a non P5 school if he had good recruiting connections.

Not completely bonkers. He has a desire to come back to NJ. There is some interest.
That's the only way that's realistic IMO....if he has a hankering to come back to NJ. Any title or money we offer OSU can match and beat....a longing to come home is the only thing they can't match. Would be a good hire if it happened by some chance

But the “coming home” would be temporary. He’s destined for a HC job - probably first at a non P5 school. Sorry, it makes no sense for Hafley to come.

It had been reported both Schiano and Butch Jones has already been in contact with Brown during search 1.0. IMO Fran Brown should be #1 on his list. Brown has become a lock down recruiter for South Jersey and if GS wants to quickly earn some juice in South Jersey. There is no way around this. If not Brown, RU will be competing with him for every B1G recruit in that part of the state. I would like to see Anthony and Nunzio on the staff in some capacity. I’d be fine with AC as DC. Schiano is a defensive coach so it is a bit of a formality there. Nunzio is important for recruiting both the current roster and North Jersey.

What does it matter it temporary or not...coaches move all the time that's just life for them.

Biggest issue is that desire strong enough or not or is he perfectly content to stay at OSU with money/titles easily matched or beaten. Frankly the DC spot at OSU is a better launch pad for his career than here as we've seen...so IMO it's not realistic in any capacity other than if he wants to come back home like a Gary Andersen leaving Wisconsin type move.

Hope he retains Nunzio C. in some capacity.
Nunzio will have other Big Ten offers. As we know all too well, NJ guys are in demand with other Big Ten programs. Of course he will be retained (if he wants to remain here).

Randy Shannon as DC would be solid.

Need Fran Brown on staff.

Matt Canada is available and probably created quite an impression when Maryland dropped 50+ points on OSU last year.

The most important thing is Schiano has the money to hire a great staff.
I saw Matt Canada mentioned in the Ledger article this morning. Would be interesting.
