I thought about Matt Canada but I'd worry about possible personality clashes there as he's had issues in the past with other HCs.

One this is certain we need to spend whatever necessary for the best OC possible. If not we are DOA. This is undoubtedly the most important staff hire and will set the tone for the Schiano tenure.
Also I do not want to see a staff full of former Schiano staff retreads. There are some good names out there that people mentioned. Outside of OC we needs recruiters.

Money is obviously important but many schools spend big bucks on staff and coordinators but that doesn't mean they're getting that return. You still have to identify the right people just like with HC for an AD.
It took Orgeron 3 tries to land on Brady even though at the outset he said he was going to hire the best guy he could find and whatever it costs....Canada didn't work, Ensminger alone didn't work and then some young unknown at a much lower cost is the guy who made it all click...using Leach tree philosophy might I add even though not a Leach guy lol.
Miles has already gone through 3 OCs in his short time at KU.
So got to still identify the right people money or not.
I realize that but my point was Schiano may need to hire outside his circle and money cannot be a restraint within reason of course.
Also need to balance out the recruiting angle and the coaching angle. It's great to have all amazing recruiters. But not every coach has to have those abilities to the detriment of scheme. In this case I'd prefer a strong OC with a good scheme and known as a good offensive mind. And have the position coaches be top recruiters.
Agree...just look at lowest paid HC in the B10 Tom Allen at IU. This past season went out and hired Kalen DeBoer from Fresno State via Sioux Falls at 800K and he's done a nice job his first year as IU OC and IU has 8 wins. First time they've won 8 since 1993 and first time with a winning conference record since 1993. It can be done!
Exactly. I like him as a coach and motivator, but he has not shown anything that would make me think that he is ready. We need a test vet.
Flood had a winning record in the B1G defeating Michigan and almost PSU.He will stay at Alabama and watch Saban compete for national championships.
I suspect Fran Brown will be offered the DC position. Greg is there to oversee, Fran’s next job will be as a DC for a P5 program, and he is one of the most respected recruiters in all of college football.

He would have walked here for a head coach offer and he's not getting any P5 head coach offers. We never wanted him as head coach. Recruiters like him grow on trees. Greg Mattison is calling the defense for OSU anyway!

Don't know much about Aurich...no chance at the HC Surace himself I guess even if the budget is as big as projected. Aurich just got promoted right? His first year as OC at Princeton. How did they do offensively anywhere to see production and rankings this year? On first blush seems a little light on the resume but I don't really know for sure.

Here's another name the WF OC Warren Ruggiero. Been an OC under Clawson since Bowling Green, has been an assistant coach at W&M/Hofstra, went to school at Delaware.
This year total/scoring offense was 13/42, last year 28/34, 2 years ago 17/21. Not looking beyond the last 3 years but just based on that seems like a solid name. I think he calls the plays not Clawson.

That article has been posted here in the past but it's one of those fluff kind of pieces to help rehab an image....regardless of that it's still mentioned there too. Did you read it. He also had similar issues at Wisconsin or NC State can't remember which.

Darrell Wilson should be a candidate for DC. He has over 15 years of experience in the Big Ten between LB's, DB's and Special Teams. He has the strong NJ ties that we need as a great recruiter and the former head coach of Woodrow Wilson down in South Jersey. He is well respected throughout the area by many coaches.
Didn't realize Aurich had worked with GS here and with the Bucs so I guess that would make him realistic.

There's a NJ guy on Leach's staff...not a name I'd want yet but maybe in a few years should we be looking again I think might be good. Eric Mele went to William Paterson, coached at St Peters and Marist. Been on Leach's staff or 5 years...3 as STs coach and the last 2 as RB coach. Leach position coaches often go on to be solid productive OCs. Seth Littrell and Briles were RB coaches for Leach at TT.

Current staff that I wouldn't mind getting a chance on staff would be Jay Valai and Kolby Smith. Didn't know Ross Douglas and Myles Nash on staff along with Will Gilkison, one of early year Schiano players at LB.
I've mentioned this guy for Butch Jones since he worked with Jones at CMU/Cincy and the first couple years at Tenn but since Addazio was let go Mike Bajakian BC's OC would also be available. He's a NJ native who has been a GA at RU in the late 90s too. He's always worked at TB as qb coach but not during GS' tenure there.
You believe Hafley would leave a co-DC position at the #1 team in the country to be a special teams coach here? Im not sure he leaves to come here as DC

On Gleeson.....didn't realize he interviewed for a spot on KK's staff at Arizona...you know I like me some Leach tree and KK must be recognizing some potential in him..Gundy flew him in from Arizona to KC where he had been recruiting to interview him and hired him on the spot.

Princeton’s innovative offense averaged an FCS-high 47.0 points per game en route to a 10-0 season last year. At the time Gundy first contacted him, he said, Gleeson was meeting with newly hired Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury.
“Sean wasn’t as big a secret as what people thought,” Gundy said. “I have access to everything on (video) now. I can go on there, pull every game up from Princeton.”
What Gundy saw was an offense that played at a high tempo, was explosive in both the run and the pass games and always seemed a step ahead of opposing defenses. Most importantly to Gundy, Gleeson, who is also the Cowboys’ QBs coach, helped put two Princeton quarterbacks into the NFL. Chad Kanoff (Cardinals) and John Lovett (now a tight end for the Chiefs) both won the Bushnell Cup given to the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year.
“I’m into more of a young youthful guy that can develop quarterbacks and be very engaging during recruiting,” Gundy said. “If we have a good quarterback, if we recruit good quarterbacks, we win games. If we don’t, we’re average.
