I thought about Matt Canada but I'd worry about possible personality clashes there as he's had issues in the past with other HCs.
Money is obviously important but many schools spend big bucks on staff and coordinators but that doesn't mean they're getting that return. You still have to identify the right people just like with HC for an AD.One this is certain we need to spend whatever necessary for the best OC possible. If not we are DOA. This is undoubtedly the most important staff hire and will set the tone for the Schiano tenure.
Also I do not want to see a staff full of former Schiano staff retreads. There are some good names out there that people mentioned. Outside of OC we needs recruiters.
I realize that but my point was Schiano may need to hire outside his circle and money cannot be a restraint within reason of course.Money is obviously important but many schools spend big bucks on staff and coordinators but that doesn't mean they're getting that return. It took Orgeron 3 tries to land on Brady even though at the outset he said he was going to hire the best guy he could find and whatever it costs....Canada didn't work, Ensminger alone didn't work and then some young unknown at a much lower cost is the guy who made it all click...using Leach tree philosophy might I add even though not a Leach guy lol.
Miles has already gone through 3 OCs in his short time at KU.
So got to still identify the right people money or not.
Agree...just look at lowest paid HC in the B10 Tom Allen at IU. This past season went out and hired Kalen DeBoer from Fresno State via Sioux Falls at 800K and he's done a nice job his first year as IU OC and IU has 8 wins. First time they've won 8 since 1993 and first time with a winning conference record since 1993. It can be done!I realize that but my point was Schiano may need to hire outside his circle and money cannot be a restraint within reason of course.
Exactly. I like him as a coach and motivator, but he has not shown anything that would make me think that he is ready. We need a test vet.NC on the staff sure with whatever kind of title co-OC or what not but as sole play caller I'm apprehensive about that I'd rather him learn and work along side a more seasoned name.
Flood had a winning record in the B1G defeating Michigan and almost PSU.He will stay at Alabama and watch Saban compete for national championships. What about bringing Kyle Flood back as OL coach?
and co-head academic support adviser?
I would think an assistant-HC spot in NJ might tempt him. Especially under Schiano.
Asst OC Brian Leonard
RB coach ray Rice
DC Randy Shannon
Qb coach mike teel
need more than jersey guys on staff. Shannon can pull Florida, rice ny, BL upstat ny
He would have walked here for a head coach offer and he's not getting any P5 head coach offers. We never wanted him as head coach. Recruiters like him grow on trees. Greg Mattison is calling the defense for OSU anyway!Hafley wouldnt come as a head coach. Foolish to think he would come as a coordinator.
Brown at DC would be interesting. I’d take an OC from a non P5 school if he had good recruiting connections.
If Brown comes in does Camp from Michigan come in?
Don't know much about Aurich...no chance at the HC Surace himself I guess even if the budget is as big as projected. Aurich just got promoted right? His first year as OC at Princeton. How did they do offensively anywhere to see production and rankings this year? On first blush seems a little light on the resume but I don't really know for sure.Andrew Aurich from Princeton will be considered for OC. Great schemes.
Fran Brown was already reached out to for the DC gig. Fantastic recruiter.
Don’t think we can have both. If we did it would be a home run.If Brown comes in does Camp from Michigan come in?
Some stats for the former Princeton OC at Ok. StateDon't know much about Aurich...no chance at the HC Surace himself I guess even if the budget is as big as projected. Aurich just got promoted right? No. Camp has a buyout only as DC for RU. Assuming Brown only comes as a DC.If Brown comes in does Camp from Michigan come in?
How about someone who put up 51 points against Schiano's Ohio St. defense in 2018. Do you think Greg would hire the guy who could do that?IMO staff and coordinators, specifically the OC in our case, are going to be crucial to success. We've gone through this a little but not really much of a hint on who the OC might be and just a slight hint on the DC side.
DCs
I think someone said Fran Brown was reached out to by GS.
If he's not possible the Cincy DC Marcus Freeman is also a nice up and coming now I like and GS being in Ohio might not make that too much of a reach for coming into contact with him over the years. If Fickell gets a bigger job though he might go along but if not maybe obtainable.
OCs
Kevin Wilson ....if he's a possible 3rd wheel behind play caller Day and PGC Yurcich
Sean Gleeson at Ok State
Kevin Johns Memphis OC...worked with Wilson at IU, Kingsbury at TT and now Norvell at Memphis
Rhett Lashlee SMU OC....worked under Malzahn and now Dykes did a quick stint up at UConn to get out from under Malzahn and make a name for himself might want to do the same after Dykes
Graham Harrell if Helton is let go
Bill Bedenbaugh OU OL coach
Brian Wright Toledo
Will Hall Tulane
EDIT: Mentioned them later in the thread.
Phil Longo NJ guy UNC OC Leach disciple but never coached with him..don't know his UNC salary
Warren Ruggiero WF OC went to school in Delaware, coached at Hofstra/W&M and some solid offensive numbers the last 3 years didn't look back further than that...been OC for Clawson dating back to Bowling Green
Mentioned later in the thread...Canada has a history of personality clashes with HCs he's worked for in the past so I'd be wary. How about someone who put up 51 points against Schiano's Ohio St. defense in 2018. Do you think Greg would hire the guy who could do that?

That article has been posted here in the past but it's one of those fluff kind of pieces to help rehab an image....regardless of that it's still mentioned there too. Did you read it. He also had similar issues at Wisconsin or NC State can't remember which.Clashes are not mentioned in this article.

Good luck. Hope you get itI have a connection to a person who would be a position coach for this dc. I am an off site defensive analyists for that person and potentially would be offered a defensive analyists position depending on how hires go. But that would be a big career change.
You believe Hafley would leave a co-DC position at the #1 team in the country to be a special teams coach here? Im not sure he leaves to come here as DCCould/would Hafley or Nunzio be able to handle specials? I assume so and it’s a good position for either one of them. They could easily transition to DC/OC in a few years when they are ready
