There is just no pleasing some fans. When you play bad, they crucify you. When you win, they nit-pick the victory. Should've won by more, etc. After Saturday's game I just took a couple of days off the internet and spent time with my family.

I was disappointed that we lost so bad, but I realize that these are just kids, younger than my own. I just hope they learn from their mistakes and play better next game.

Even though I never read any of the threads on here for a couple of days, I know how many here were going to react to the Malik Monk smile at the end of the game and just stayed away so I wouldn't get my blood boiling at the idiocy of it all.

I think you're giving the fans (trolls) that complained too much credit. Yea he apologized because he's a good dude. But don't think for a second he let that ruin his birthday lol. The kid is too strong and has too much going for him for that.

Like another poster said, those of us who weren't at the game didn't hear the birthday singing. Also, it's only been posted on here the last day or 2 that this was the case.

So for us we saw a UK player laughing on the bench while we were losing by 20 to an opponent we should be beating by 20. Given that context the outrage was well founded. If the birthday singing was known, the outrage would have been much less substantial.

This is a classic case of using hindsight to come back and ridicule people. Honestly, what true fan of which team would be ok with a player laughing while their team was being demolished by a team they should be demolishing? Get off your high horse.

I'll make it clear: given the now well-known circumstances that he was smiling at the crowd's singing of happy birthday, him smiling is a non-issue.

This is so stupid. Monk probably had an adult moment and realized that, although it sucked, his life wasn't over because the team lost.

He realized it was just ONE game.

He would wake up the next morning.

He didn't lose any of his friends.

He would still be playing for the greatest college BB school in history and might be playing the game he loves for millions in the future.

Considering just those facts (among many others)......it was kind of silly to expect him to be depressed just because your ability to brag took a hit for a few days.

Fans losses will stick with us. Heck people still talk about the WVU loss in 2010 or the Wisconsin loss in 2015.

Players it's different. They have to be able to go out sometimes the very next day and perform to the best of their abilities. They can't dwell on what happened or else it'll affect future performance.

Pretty sure in the article he was talking about national sports writers like fox and cbs. I dont remember seeing anything about this board in the write up. People on this board think they are more important than they are, nobody cares about this board.

Ok, he was laughing because some fans were singing happy birthday. At the same time, he had had a horrible (by his standards) game, and his school was getting destroyed on the court.

Maybe, just maybe, he could have turned around to the fans with a simple smile, expressing his gratitude, rather than laughing and appearing to have a good time during the slaughter.

Truly, regardless of the reasons, the optics just were not good.

I 100% agree with you. I was part of bunch A , the optics of cracking up on the bench while getting manhandled didnt look very good , but anyone who wants to crucify me or any other fan over QUESTIONING what went down can just kiss my buttocks . Its not normal to be cracking up on the bench late in a blowout when you are on the wrong side of things . But the explanation was OK , so move on and quit acting like either " side" committed a federal offense.
