"You pressured an apology from the birthday boy. You really saved the day on this one. You haven’t come through in a clutch moment like this since the time you forced a tearful apology from a space scientist because he wore a “problematic” shirt."

Do you know what space is angry internet person?

"This is the age of the Internet. People enjoy being angry for no apparent reason, and they'll jump at the chance to dogpile a guy. Social media users and sports blogs went nuts over the optics of Monk smiling as his team lost to Florida."

Go ahead and yelp pack of dogs. I realize I'm not shaming anyone as some have no shame. "Im just a fan, and want best for UK."

Remember when Dom....never mind, it will just be lost on you.

"Humanity owes you a debt of gratitude, angry Internet person."

Yeah we have some real dip ***** on this board. They are the same ones that call and complain their order at the Taco Bell drive thru wasn't up to their standards 3 tacos in so they ***** to get free food. God I wish some of our fans would do us a favor and stay away from the net and if you follow recruits or players on twitter and give them **** for something you don't like then you're a complete douchebag

There is just no pleasing some fans. When you play bad, they crucify you. When you win, they nit-pick the victory. Should've won by more, etc. After Saturday's game I just took a couple of days off the internet and spent time with my family.

I was disappointed that we lost so bad, but I realize that these are just kids, younger than my own. I just hope they learn from their mistakes and play better next game.

Even though I never read any of the threads on here for a couple of days, I know how many here were going to react to the Malik Monk smile at the end of the game and just stayed away so I wouldn't get my blood boiling at the idiocy of it all.

It wasn't just UK fans either. It made national attention.

More than anything this should show everyone that yes, UK is the needle.

And yes the small percentage of trolls on here (I refuse to call them fans) can spoil something like a 19 year olds birthday

It's part of the KY microscope and like it or not perception is reality. Personally I'm not going to waste my time complaining on a message board about it but that being said laughing it up on the bench while your getting blown out is not the best of looks.

I do not believe for a minute that a true fan, thought it was ok for Monk to be laughing on the bench during a 20 point embarrassment on national tv
BEFORE they heard about the birthday singing. NO ONE knew about that unless they were there & could hear it.

If you knew in advance..........you should be playing the lottery and winning millions

I'm really curious what Brad Calipari's take is on this situation. He could be the missing piece to this mess.

I think you're giving the fans (trolls) that complained too much credit. Yea he apologized because he's a good dude. But don't think for a second he let that ruin his birthday lol. The kid is too strong and has too much going for him for that.

Like another poster said, those of us who weren't at the game didn't hear the birthday singing. Also, it's only been posted on here the last day or 2 that this was the case.

So for us we saw a UK player laughing on the bench while we were losing by 20 to an opponent we should be beating by 20. Given that context the outrage was well founded. If the birthday singing was known, the outrage would have been much less substantial.

This is a classic case of using hindsight to come back and ridicule people. Honestly, what true fan of which team would be ok with a player laughing while their team was being demolished by a team they should be demolishing? Get off your high horse.

I'll make it clear: given the now well-known circumstances that he was smiling at the crowd's singing of happy birthday, him smiling is a non-issue.

I sent much love and prayers for all the little snowflakes that got triggered by a kid laughing.

This is so stupid. Monk probably had an adult moment and realized that, although it sucked, his life wasn't over because the team lost.

He realized it was just ONE game.

He would wake up the next morning.

He didn't lose any of his friends.

He would still be playing for the greatest college BB school in history and might be playing the game he loves for millions in the future.

Considering just those facts (among many others)......it was kind of silly to expect him to be depressed just because your ability to brag took a hit for a few days.

I believe CBS is what prompted the apologies? They posted the story on CBS sports.com

Do you really think Malik Monk reads Rupp Rafters? Come on.

Probably not but you never know who's lurking around at times. It wouldn't be completely unheard of

I think when things like this happen, the players do know whats being said.

Fans and players have different mentalities.

Fans losses will stick with us. Heck people still talk about the WVU loss in 2010 or the Wisconsin loss in 2015.

Players it's different. They have to be able to go out sometimes the very next day and perform to the best of their abilities. They can't dwell on what happened or else it'll affect future performance.

Isn't this thread doing the same exact thing by attempting to publicly shame a person or group of people who's behavior you disagree with? Asking for a friend.
If they can't take it then they shouldn't dish it out

Pretty sure in the article he was talking about national sports writers like fox and cbs. I dont remember seeing anything about this board in the write up. People on this board think they are more important than they are, nobody cares about this board.

*sigh*.....I'll break this down nice and easy for you.

It shouldn't matter WHY he was laughing.

The very thought that supposed grown men trashed the kid because he didn't rent his jersey in twain and sob on the floor is pathetic.

They did so for one reason, their ability to talk **** was hindered for a few days and since UK's success is the bulk of their self-esteem, they attacked him.

If you think it should matter, at least man up and admit why it should.

It has EVERYTHING to do with people who mean all of NOTHING to this kid getting triggered by his laughing.

Wah wah wah..more whining about "Internet bullies"..lmao. Seriously..the people bitching and whining in this thread are really no different than anybody that bitched and complained about the laughing/smiling stuff from Monk. The people who defend Coach Calipari's every move are no different than the people who say he is a mediocre in game Coach..you guys throw in plenty of insults toward whoever says anything that you see as "negative" about Coach Calipari. And that's just two of many examples. You clowns are no different.

This is actually a really good point, even though he's demonstrating the point he just made. The internet has just become a tool for people to find others that have the same view points as them, and to bash anyone who has an opinion that differs from their own. It doesn't really matter which side of an argument you are on because both sides basically just do the same thing, which is to band together and berate anyone not in agreement with them.

Ok, he was laughing because some fans were singing happy birthday. At the same time, he had had a horrible (by his standards) game, and his school was getting destroyed on the court.

Maybe, just maybe, he could have turned around to the fans with a simple smile, expressing his gratitude, rather than laughing and appearing to have a good time during the slaughter.

Truly, regardless of the reasons, the optics just were not good.

I 100% agree with you. Yeah, I did demonstrate the point I made..but me seeing at least 7 or 8 posters in this thread that bash people they disagree with almost all of the time doing the same thing they always do (Whine, complain, *****, and bash.) when they disagree with someone..just didn't sit well with me at all. Hypocrites are awful.

Both sides are overblown as all get out , the first bunch reacted before knowing all the facts , the second bunch crying the blues over the first bunch afraid we might have hurt one of stars feelings .. what a cluster you know what. I was part of bunch A , the optics of cracking up on the bench while getting manhandled didnt look very good , but anyone who wants to crucify me or any other fan over QUESTIONING what went down can just kiss my buttocks . Its not normal to be cracking up on the bench late in a blowout when you are on the wrong side of things . But the explanation was OK , so move on and quit acting like either " side" committed a federal offense.
