Fran down near the Indiana bench why exactly?
Don’t know but knowing Fran arguing something … Ioway made the shots down the stretch and deserved escaping by their teeth..

Still think Purdue wins the tournament..

So ... following your logic

1. The BIG is a **** basketball conference
2. We can't compete in said **** conference
3. So, what does that say about our program and why does this make you feel good bashing the conference? It only makes us look even worse than we already do.

I don't understand where you are going with this other than, in a backhanded way, you are bashing our program without appearing to bash it? Is that the goal here?
Dude, his Big Ten rants are rank buffoonery. And yes you are correct to point out that it makes no sense whatsoever to constantly preach that the Big Ten is a horrible, non-competitive, over-rated football and basketball conference when the Huskers fair so poorly in both. If he believes his schtick, it necessarily puts Nebraska athletics in the worst possible light. But alas, he is too dumb to realize this.

Nebraska has the worst combined men's programs in all of P5.

if it is a crime to point out that we've accomplished that feat in a very run-of-the-mill league, lock me up.

propping up a conference based on nothing just because we're part of it doesn't make us any better.

stating basic facts such as win/loss records in late rounds of the tournament and major bowl games - both which paint a clear picture on where our conference stands compared to our peers - apparently is "rank buffoonery". got it.

you contribute this kind of thought leadership to the iowa board, too?

Don’t always agree with top gun bashing of the big 10, agree Big 10 football seldom does anything and only cared about playing in Rose Bowls and has only won 3 national championships in the last 51 years..

Big 10 is much better in Basketball than football and holds their own in the NCAA’s ..Only Penn St and Nebraska have losing records in the tournament everyone else is .500 or better. More times than not the conference has had a team in the final 4 since the tournament started in 1939..

LOL. I just want to point out that you gave a thumbs up to post #84 in this thread (post immediately following your post) that disagrees with your premise on basketball.

I have felt for awhile that the Big allowing football to be played on the basketball court in regard to physicality bites them in the *** in the NCAA tourney. The mauling, Hand checking, bumping of cutters seems to be monitored more in the NCAA.

Definitely agree. The conference tried to clean it up some a few years back with their new "freedom of movement" campaign which was supposed to penalize hand checking and chest/body checking away from the basket but that lasted about two weeks when it became apparent that MSU would never finish above .500 if it continued.

Big Ten teams that get out-of-conference officiating crews in March then get whistled for contact fouls which were "incidental" or routine in Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb.

No question about that it hurts them in the tourney because their use to being so physical which they call closer in the NCAA tournament games..

My God the tournament hasn't even started yet, and this lame excuse is already on display.

If there was a drinking game for every time this shopworn talking point gets trotted out as an excuse for the Big Ten underperforming in the NCAA Tournament, we would all be as drunk as Wisconsin fans by Thursday afternoon.

I remember Michigan and Wisconsin in the Final in recent history. And Michigan State in the Final Four. Wisconsin had to beat undefeated Kentucky. The Big Ten doesn't get as many #1 seeds and easy paths.

King Kong doesn't like to look at the overall big picture. He likes to focus on a very small sample size...like the fact that the Big Ten lost in the Final game.

Truthfully, all the major conferences can play. You never know what might happen. If we knew, we'd be rich from betting.

Creighton/ Villanova is some gawd awful shooting. CU is 0-13 from 3. Nova is 2-13.
Yep. Good defense to be sure, but lots of bricks being laid. O'Connell had a nice game yesterday but he's thrown up a bunch of prayers in this game.

Got a bad feeling for the 2nd half. They don’t look tired but their legs have to be shot after 3 in 3. Hawkins logging 40/game has taken a toll on him.

Yeah the starters are logging a ton of minutes.

But their ball movement is not sharp at all today, partly due to Villanova's defense but Jays also look hesitant.

Hard to believe this is just a two-possession game. Jays could still steal it if they can just find a sliver of offense. I'd tell Alexander to try to get to the rim on some of these semi-fast breaks, because once he pulls it back out and sets up the offense they can't seem to do anything.

Keep attacking early in the shot clock, before Nova digs in on defense. Even if it doesn't immediately lead to a shot, at least you're getting some defenders to move around and keeping them off-balance.

Ugh, Creighton let this slip back into a walk-it-up, half-court game, and it's gonna cost them.

Good tourney for the Jays, but they didn't bring their A game today. Nova was cold most of the game and very beatable, but Creighton wasn't sharp enough.

Yeah those 40 points they just scored were amazing...
I like McDermott but this wasn't his finest hour. When your half-court offense is producing nothing BUT you are getting a ton of stops on the defensive end, step on the gas. Don't let Villanova dig in on defense every damned trip.

To be fair, I think McDermott was trying to tell his guys that, but they played kind of scared most of the game.

Three games in three days playing seven guys. I don’t care how old you are, that takes its toll.
Indiana just did it and they scored 77 today, in fact, I think that was their highest scoring game in the tourney.
MSU just did it...they scored 70

Scared of what though? They have a 7 footer...Nova doesn't play a dude over 6'8

I mean they were too hesitant to push the pace and try to get to the rim. Played right into Nova’s strength on way too many possessions, especially in the first half.

Big 10 will get 8 teams in…Expect them to do better in the first round than last year…

I’ll never be a Hawkeye fan, but Fran has them peaking at the right time. I have to give Fran credit, he’s one of the few coaches who isn’t afraid to shake up his rotation and keep guys on the floor who are contributing, instead of yanking them as soon as their minutes are up.

Totally agree, I would say this is his best team the way they‘ve been playing to end the season..

Question is now can they advance to at least the sweet 16 which he hasn’t at Ioway..
