I'm in a Dynasty League.
I'm two years removed from back-to-back championships, lost Megatron to retirement, and having aging QBs in Brees and Rivers. I missed the playoffs by one game last year, and have the 4th pick in the draft. Going to be a rebuilding year or two, almost certainly.
A few weeks ago, I thought I'd pick Dak up in the 3rd (and last) round of our rookie draft. I'm the only State guy in the league, everyone overvalues RBs in our league, then properly values receivers. Except for really high picks in the NFL draft, QBs rarely get selected.
Then week 1 happened. Okay, I thought, I'll pick him in the second.
Then week 2 happened. Okay, I can pick him in the first with a lower pick. I started shopping to see who wanted to trade up.
Meanwhile, there's a ton of wheeling and dealing going on between the first two guys to pick, so it becomes obvious Elliot and Henry are going 1 and 2. Well, guy with pick #3 is not a friend, has only been in the league 1 year, and I'm not familiar with his tendencies. He makes a stupid trade, giving up a bunch to get Romo and Witten.
Suddenly, my Spidey-sense is tingling. On a hunch, I offer him Rivers for Romo. It's not a sure-fire thing, but Rivers has outperformed Romo for a while, and should do so again.
He rejects the trade. I go into panic mode.
I offer the guy with pick #2 Alshon Jeffrey for the pick straight up. He declines, but after a couple of days of haggling in the end we swap picks and I get Demaryius Thomas while giving up DeAndre Hopkins (yeah, I know, but Osweiler is his QB now, and I just don't know if he can keep up his value).
The trade was concluded Friday afternoon.
