And when that contract expires? There's a very good chance all Comcast subscribers will lose the ability to see all games broadcast on BTN, as well as Big Ten games on Fox Sports 1, according to BTN president Mark Silverman.

That's particularly bad news for Rutgers fans, considering the first four games this season are all scheduled to be on BTN or FS1, including the season opener on Sept. 1 against Texas State.

This is what happens when people keep supporting candidates who have been bought by the telecoms. The telecoms grow and grow and screw consumers over based on their bottom lines and even their corporate/personal vendettas. And it goes the other way too - companies can collude to stifle competition (remember when FIOS was abandoned in areas?) Do you really think you will have a choice in the Ajit Pai era?

That seems kind of strange with regards to FS1. They would carry FS1 but not B10 games on it. I've never heard of that kind of arrangement before. Luckily I have FIOS but if not the options in beaced thread are there. YoutubeTV, DirectTV Now, Sony Vue.

EDIT: Almost sounds like some personal dispute between Roberts and Murdoch.

If you could afford it I'd go for YouTube TV for 4 months, so 160 bucks and then cancel. If you're Comcast on some level I think it's kind of dumb because you'd be pushing someone like me who is perfectly ok with traditional cable (outside of the cable box fees) to sample something new and if I end up liking that something new first chance I get I'm gone.

Doesn't New Jersey have Verizon Fios?
Parts of it do but not everywhere. Optimum/Spectrum is another provider in some parts but I don't think they ever overlap with Comcast. FIOS may overlap in certain areas with both.

So if FIOS isn't an option one of the streaming services is another option.

Fios is in some areas, but Verizon gave up on building it out further, after colluding with the rival telecoms to not compete in those areas in exchange for them not competing in others.

jesus...that sux. yeah, i was wondering why it was such an issue (with Comcast dropping BTN).

Don't forget YES was dropped for more than a year so it definitely could be a possibility as much as negotiating tactic.

Kind of wonder what will happen in other B10 states. It's quite a big swath of people and fan bases that are larger and much more fanatical on the whole than RU. I have FIOS but if I was a Comcast subscriber I'd spend the 160 over 4 months on YouTube TV and if I end up liking it you've lost me for good.

it's not just Rutgers' alum though. there's a huge Big Ten fan base in Jersey...especially PSU fans (as you all know). point being....i feel there has to be a huge population that'll be pissed and dropping Comcast over this....I would. it's just annoying to go thru the process of switching. the cutting the cord thing feels arduous to my old a*s, but I sure as hell would be doing it.....need my BTN lol.

Sounds like 4 schools would be spared because Comcast isn't the local provider.

https://purdue.rivals.com/news/big-ten-network-president-blasts-comcast-as-contract-nears-end

Tuesday's latest statement from Silverman suggests 10 of the 14 markets in the Big Ten could be without a cable platform to watch several Big Ten Conference games.

"Basically everyone except for Ohio State, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Iowa," Silvermann said Tuesday are the only school markets where Comcast isn't the local cable provider. "Unfortunately, my fear is the removal of BTN in the outer market may just be the first step in Comcast's plan to remove BTN from their systems everywhere, including the Big Ten home markets. Now, in addition to the BTN agreement expiring, so is the agreement for all Big Ten games that air on FS1. BTN and FS1 have made proposal to Comcast dating back to February, and we've had no substantive response at all."

The other 10 schools, including Michigan and Penn State must make it very clear to Comcast, that if they go through with this WE WILL DROP THEM.

Comcast isn't about "cutting your nose off to spite your face." This has the making of Comcast trying to force the hand of the B1G for a better deal on their end.
I think it is both of these things. Don't forget, Roberts/Comcast lost out on their bid for most of Fox's assets. Murdoch preferred Iger/Disney all along. So there is very likely a personal element to this but it also serves as a negotiating tactic for a more favorable deal. The Comcast footprint is vast, especially in B1G territory, so they wield a lot of power.

All of the Fox Sports channels were never part of that deal.

This is no "information" site. This is a Fox propaganda site.

This is BAU negotiation of carriage fees between distributor and content owner. Comcast was willing to drop YES for a year (also a Fox negotiation) so of course it's possible that carriage is dropped. But this is not a Comcast issue. This is a joint negotiation with two sides, both playing a part. Ignore all the saber rattling up until the 11th hour.

I know, that wasn't my point. Roberts is pissed at Murdoch for not going with the Comcast deal which was financially more lucrative than Disney's offer which Fox originally accepted (before the latest public round of offers jacked up the price, which Disney again won). This is one way for Roberts to get back at Murdoch.

Also keep in mind, Comcast and Fox/Disney are still competing for Sky's assets in Europe.

Comcast went to war with YES carriage as well and dropped them for a year. It was then reinstated the next year. Not saying the Roberts/Murdoch relationship won;t come into play on this one, but there is already a history of contentious carriage negotiations between the two parties.

Keep in mind that Comcast his headquartered in PA(Philly) and PSU still carries a lot of weight in Harrisburg so look for PA politicians to put pressure on Comcast if they drop the B1G Network

Well it's a nice thought but I don't see either of those two sacrificing 1 dime for the good of the other B1G schools.
