My guess is a lot of these changes are gonna be costly flops.
Stoops had his time. Had a few solid years but the league is a meat grinder, pretty much like the Indiana job in the B1G. It’s probably a bottom 3 job in the league. And I would agree with you.

Matt Campbell's name is moving up the Penn State list. I bet it's still Terry Smith or an NFL coordinator, but it wouldn't surprise me if Campbell gets a call.
Campbell don't sound like a guy who is leaving. Just had their signing class and will start bowl prep. He sounds like staying to me

I don't know if he was a candidate prior to, IMO he'd be a great hire, and with ISU struggling with NIL might signal isn't time to jump ship. I'm assuming he'd take some guys with him.

Probably don't want to uproot kids.
This and as has been said many times before. Why not go the KF route and take an essentially 25 year contract at $6-8M per year and never worry about getting canned.

Uprooting a family of 4 kids isn't easy. Campbell could very well decide $5M/yr plus external income is plenty when partnered with a low cost of living, job security and a happy family.
If someone asked would you rather have $40M and be happy or $80M and be stressed, most people would take the former. Yes, that's an oversimplification, but the concept is valid.

Why does his family have to be unhappy moving to PA? I mean if Iowa St is where he wants to be fine but don’t most people take a job or get into a profession to try and get as far as you can or better best you can be? With the changing landscape of college football it’s going to get harder and harder for ISU. Penn St, if truly interested is a top 10 job with all the built in advantages.

If it’s Campbell or another HC odds are half class at former school follows him. So much easier to get out of the signing commitment after coaches leave. Fact that psu fired Franklin in Oct. and come signing day doesn’t have a coach is hilarious and shows the utter incompetence by the AD.

If Campbell really is PSU's new top choice and they offer him $10(ish) mill a year or more and he says no, it'll become pretty obvious that the guy will end his career in Ames. Short of Ohio St. and Notre Dame who I don't think will ever come calling for him, Penn St. has to be as close to the top of his mountain as anywhere else. He's a rust belt guy. If he says no, it's clear that he's perfectly content not chasing natty's and continuing to climb and is happy being a god in Ames for the rest of his career. Nothing wrong with that.
