Now you guys are making stuff up.
Please provide any evidence of what you are stating as truth. There is none.
We are classified based on ADM like everyone else.
We have hated our last two conferences. They are weak. We don’t like it.
It was the Rutherford County schools that asked not to play Cleveland County.
We would love a more challenging conference, as we had until recent years.
But the Association is not going to let us make that choice.
Reidsville, with slightly more than Shelby, was 3A through the initial changes last time, and then got bumped into 4A at the end. We felt that was to avoid Shelby, but we have no proof.
City of Shelby has students that go to all four high schools, for various reasons. The school lines don’t match up with city limits.
Teachers kids often go where the parent teaches, etc.
There has been no efforts to keep Shelby High small. It just worked out that way.
We would prefer to play in higher classifications. But that still would not provide us with more players to choose from. That’s the ADM, whether any of us like it or not.
We have played much bigger schools for decades. Charlotte schools. Freedom was the largest in the state at one time. Recent state champ Watauga had a series with us.
As far as Gaffney, we played and defeated them in a year they one the SC State Title in the highest classification. And we had a mostly competitive 4 game series with them in the 90s.
Shelby has absolutely nothing to prove in taking on competition.
What any fair minded football fan should see is Shelby’s unmatched success in NC high school football, regardless of ADM or classification. Lots of work by lots of people.
Time to quote Vince Lombardi again.
You remember him, correct?
Super Bowl trophy.

“ The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have. “

Shelby High Football has done more with its program than any other in NC.

Well I was talking about literal population numbers for each small town/city in the late 70s through early 2000s.... and there is nothing made up about it.

The problem with it is this. They think we don't know. If they played up like Burns and got in a real conference. They'd be done. They're not winning 4a.......... or 5a..........

They pull strings to stay in the romper room.
That's stupid. Why couldn't we win 4a or 5a? Crest played 5 playoffs games last year and won handily in all of them.

All this is true. Classifications matter a lot.
The biggest question mark in the state of NC in the last 50 years has been Shelby's existence in the classes they remain in. I know WHY they work on the down low to keep it there. Shelby sees itself as a little old hometown team...but yall are no 'Maiden' or 'Cherryville'. In 70s/80s Shelby was 2 & 3 times the population size of Belmont. We played in the same conference. The late 90s/early 2000s Shelby drops DOWN to 2a......and yall had more population THEN than Belmont does RIGHT NOW!!!!!
So now yall have found a way to stay in 3a.....the lower side of old 2a class. SMH. I respect Shelby for a lot of reasons.....but this is the one part that I know is fraught with dirty dealings and politics and I will never respect it.
We have both dropped down. Remember when Crest had about 1800 students and played 4A. My oldest son when he graduated from Crest there was close to 400 in his class. I live in Boiling Springs and every kid in the neighborhood but 1 goes to Thomas Jefferson.

The middle school trend has been interesting the last couple of years. It seems that Burns and KM Middle have both been on a decent run in the county. Does anyone have the overall records and head to head county middle school records for the past 5 yrs?
We all know that Burns Middle is the development team for Shelby and Crest....

LOL... I hear you. Playing up.. LOL.... Talk to Gaffney Sir. Shelby would NEVER schedule them again and definitely not on tv. Beat them so bad they cancelled on us.

Series lead is gone boss. We see your jv and middle school. Nothing in the pipeline.

Our game doesn't mean as much to you because Shelby can't beat us. It'll mean more to you later on hopefully. You're 2nd fiddle. If KM could get over their stupidness you'd be third fiddle.

Pitiful!!!!
Junior, Shelby played Gaffney way before Crest did, and memory has it that Crest canceled on Gaffney cause you knew the tail beating you were going to receive.

It doesn't matter what the population of the town is, but the population at the school. Belmont had as many students as Shelby back in the day and had two middle schools feeding them and Shelby only had one. SP has had way more students than Shelby for the last 30 years.

Shelby wouldn't schedule Gaffney now if Gaffney was handing out free food stamps BOY! Y'all can prove it. Schedule Gaffney on TV and beat them.

You're memory is wrong too. They wanted no part of us again.

Now, you're in the meaty part of your schedule. Playing all those heavyweights. I might skip our game to watch you all play Cherryville. That should be intense,

We all know...
We all know Crest brings in students every year from other schools to build up their football program. Putting in storage buildings and the old Baker Ryhne (don't know the spelling or what they are named now)

If you only knew a tenth of what you think you knew then you might could get out of that clown suit and actually look intelligent. You only run your mouth and think everyone believes anything that comes out of it. Everyone knows you're the clown (notice you're used properly) moron.

In 2 or 3 years Burns middle has lost 2 county games and they were both to KM last year I think. IFFFFFF they stay together, the 8th - 11th grade group can have some success. This year is far from over but they will not be an easy win if they live up to the potential.

I haven’t seen Burns yet but Crest Middle definitely looks the part. Burns definitely has a kid that everyone is talking about at running back and KM Middle is loaded at the skill positions with the exception of qb at the moment. We do not have the linemen we had last year however. I haven’t seen or heard much about Shelby with the exception of a good running back I keep hearing about. It would be nice if someone kept us updated with the County Middle Schools on here.

Has Shelby ever beat Gaffney? In the 21st century... I'll give you even 15 years before that?

Have they?
I could be wrong but I think they beat them around the same time your last hair follicle turned loose and that last tooth fell out of your diseased ridden gums

Maybe earlier than that, but not positive

If you go by population Shelby is way bigger than Kings Mountain, but KMHS is probably twice the student enrollment as Shelby. Go figure, it doesn't make sense. Just like when all these houses get built in the City limits of Shelby, the biased school board will probably send most of them to Crest or Kings Mt.
