Just don’t see it. CJ is the guy you bring off the bench to hit shots. The more he makes the longer he stays in. We have other makers with more well rounded games. That is not a big knock on CJ, he certainly is not completely one dimensional. He got game.

Lol all this Frederick love is looney at best. The guy is less than average for any UK team. If he starts we are nit bound period. The guy is a 7th man on next seasons team and wouldn’t get off the bench for any other year under cal. Dontaie Allen IMO is a much more rounded player.

CJ might start the cheer’s. Just don’t see him ahead of Wheeler, TyTy and Grady. But if he does it wouldn’t surprise me, but Cal doesn’t like to start KY boys.

I don’t think I we should assume there are any locks at this point.
Maybe Oscar, but these dudes are gonna have to come in and earn it. We are about 6 months from the season starting. Lots of blood, sweat and tears ahead. Guys are gonna battle and cal will start who he sees fit. We stay healthy and we will have 9-10 dudes who can go.
Can’t wait.

Grady will start and be leading scorer. I think TyTy and Wheeler start as well with Frederick and Allen off the bench. Of course Oscar and either Brooks or Hopkins assuming no Jackson. Toppin off bench

CJ will start. Kid was runnerup frosh of the year in Big Ten and was on his was to All Big Ten this year till he got hurt. Iowa rannothing for the kid. He will shoot close to 50% from 3, wont turn it over, and is a high level defender when healthy. How does he not start. Plus he is a great glue guy tough as nails. My bet he starts. Carolina promised him he will start no way hes coming off bench for us.

Grady is a 2000 point scorer. He is not coming off of anybody's bench. Wheeler was 2nd team all SEC so he is not coming off the bench. The battle will be Ty Ty and CJ but I feel Ty Ty will be the starting 2 guard. CJ to me will be like Darius Miller coming off the bench who will still get a lot of minutes.

Something that is somehow being overlooked with this team is that about 80% of the minutes are going to be played by juniors and seniors. And you’ll probably have only one freshman on the floor about 90% of the time.

Also, his mere presence on the floor opens things up for the bigs, and for dribble penetration, because he really spreads the defense. Iowa's offense was so much more effective when he was in the game, even when he wasn't scoring.

You really think he looks at where a kid was born and says “nah I won’t start that dude he is from that state?”

Yeah. Ok. Suuuuuuure.

Oscar, Washington, and Grady are guaranteed starters. If Jackson or Mintz return, they would start as well. If those 2 don't return, Wheeler takes that other starting guard spot and Brooks starts at the 4

LOL, Cane has been gone for months, makes one post and dudes immediately pile on.

Cane is extremely optimistic, but at least he doesn't act like a hall monitor and attack everyone that doesn't kiss the ground Cal walks on.

I want to see this lineup on the floor the majority of the time:

G Washington
G Fredrick
G Grady
F Toppin
F Tshiebwe

That’s the best offensive and defensive combo we have.

Most people don’t realize that Fredrick, when healthy, is a very good defender. That’s not my opinion, that is straight from Cal after watching tape on the kid. Also a respected poster (ralphdaltonfan) has mentioned this as well. That’s two guys I trust when it comes to evaluating players. Most of us only saw a handful of Fredrick’s games and most probably saw him after his injury. I admittedly haven’t seen him play much at all, but I trust the stats (47% from 3) and the aforementioned evaluations of his defense.

Toppin is the best option for a 4 out motion offense (which Cal supposedly wants to play). He can defend every perimeter spot and has the length to defend inside. He has the best handles of the 4 man candidates and is the best shooter (31% from 3). Collins might turn out to be better in the long run, but I like Toppin’s combination of skills and experience.

Grady is a fifth year Senior and proven winner. Tshiebwe is our best post option. Washington is a better shooter and overall talent than Wheeler.

I would give Wheeler good minutes off the bench backing up Washington and Fredrick. Bring Allen in for Grady at the 3.

I would play Collins as the backup at the 4 and 5.

Let Brooks, Hopkins, and Ware fight it out for the scraps.

But Cal will likely go with Wheeler at PG, Washington and Grady on the wings, and Brooks and Tshiebwe at the 4 and 5. Or maybe Collins instead of Brooks at the 4.

Who’s piling on? I’ve always liked cane. I just said he’s an eternal optimist, which he is.
