So you really think this was a "loan"?

no it was a gift or bribe etc. I was just wondering if it’s legal to go to a bank get a loan and delayed payments till one gets nfl $. I was just curious, if I was a bank I would loan it to a kid like him and make him take out an insurance policy.

scholarship athletes are not allowed to do this.

Young supposedly says he paid it back. If he did, nothing. If he didn't, he's done. Anyone that still thinks CF is an amateur sport is just fooling themselves. Money, money, and money. And it's all over - not just a few schools.
It doesn't matter if he paid it back. Once he takes the money from somebody considered to be a booster or somebody wanting to act on his behalf, it's a violation. It would be our luck to have this come out AFTER we've played OSU. The guy is an absolute difference maker.

What a dirt bag. I love how he defends himself saying "a family friend I met the summer before my Freshman year"... Shocking this friend showed up supplying cash just before his career at Ohio St.

I guess it's no wonder that the Buckeyes are basically the only northern team that can keep up with the elite southern school that cheat their asses off.

I'm sorry but these kids are so selfish to screw their own teammates over by doing dirty stuff like this. Not that he has a reason not to do it, he's going to still make the same amount of money and be ranked just as high had he not taken the shortcut.

So I'm going to play a little devil's advocate here....let's throw it back to 2018, Adrian Martinez. You guys talk about how there's no issue paying players. I don't like it but that's besides the point. Let's say Adrian took money when he was being recruited by Frost, same thing happens to him, suspended halfway through the year. We know what Bunch looked like against Troy by that time. Probably not fans of it at that point I assume?

Wrong. Wins are vacated when there is ineligible competition. It does not matter if the violation is self-reported.
Different time now. The NCAA recently passed new regs letting athletes be compensated for their image starting in a year or two …….The new regs are designed to stop the interaction between agents and players like in the past.

Chase Young can play.
The NCAA can't stop anyone from playing.
There might be lame consequences though.
I just love how husker fans judge another program when just this year we allowed possibly one of the worst human beings in the sport to play week after week, and only turned on him when his on field play began to suffer.

I really don't think what Mo did was that big of a deal. It is clearly not child porn.

It was the stuff that he did at NU, after this, that bothered me. And I truly believe it had an effect on the team. The fact that the girl in Cali is pushing forward with rape charges on the other two dudes, and Mo still sent that crap. Then went to NU and continued to behave in a similar manner. I'm all for talent providing a buffer against behavior but yikes.

You are woefully misinformed. First, the NCAA has passed no such regs. The NCAA Board of Directors has told the governance groups of the 3 divisions to promulgate some potential rules regarding name, image and likeness. Those potential rules will not exist for at least 6 months. Second, those NIL rules have nothing to do with Young's situation, as that is a potential benefits violation, not NIL. Again, if Young competed while ineligible, those contests will be vacated, either voluntarily by OSU or by the Committee on Infractions following a hearing. Stop digging.

Rules are rules. When one breaks them, pay the consequences. In more cases than not, rule breakers continue to break the rules until the law of numbers catch up to them.

We must not challenge the rules but obey them. But human nature will always break the rules...that's who we are...

The Columbus Dispatch reported the loan was believed to have been used to pay for airfare for his family to attend last year's Rose Bowl. The NCAA will pay for family members if the bowl is part of the college football playoff. Since the Rose Bowl was not a playoff game, family members receive a smaller reimbursement. The amount being mentioned is $3,000. OSU has a student assistance fund which is designed for these types of situations.I don't know why Chase didn't pursue that avenue. I do not the details on how the assistance fund is operated. I assume other P5 schools have similar assistance funds. The usual suspension, based on the dollar amount, is 4 games. However, there was a Stanford player in 2014 who took a $3,000 loan from this landlord to help pay rent along with $400 in other impermissible benefits. He repaid the loan later. Stanford submitted the findings to the NCAA and the player was suspended for 1 game. I personally believe Chase will get a 2-3 game suspension.

If it is 4 games and we (OSU) are out of playoff contention then he should and probably would sit out the bowl game. If we make the Big 10 championship game and have a realistic chance of making the playoff I'm sure he will want to play in the Big 10 Championship game. OSU found out about the loan payment last Sunday. Chase did not practice all week. Then again if he is not allowed to practice during the suspension I'm not sure it would be wise to try and come back after missing so much time. Just wait for the NFL Draft.

Umm... You do realize he's not sitting out by choice to protect his "millions" right? He got SUSPENDED for breaking rules and taking money he shouldn't have... That could have really screwed his teammates over If OSU had not found out and suspended him. They could have possibly had to forfeit games if he was deemed ineligible or maybe even faced other sanctions. I doubt any OSU will face any other penalties since they got out in front of this and already suspended him for 4 games. But just an FYI, when CFP take money from boosters it can potentially really hurt their team.:)

So yeah that is very selfish behavior. That's more of a fact than an opinion.

Hey maybe next time you should read up on the situation first or just not comment if you don't know what you are talking about o_O?It blows my mind when I see guys like you come on here and make comments like the one you made to me in your reply when obviously you haven't taken the time to learn anything about the subject you commented on. It's one thing to do that and make a regular comment but when you don't know anything regarding the subject but to quote another poster and make a snide comment seems like it would be embarrassing.

umm.. you do realize he'd be a top 5 pick if he didn't play one minute this year, right? and if he gets seriously hurt playing unnecessarily, yes, he'd cost himself millions.

thanks for the paragraphs. time well spent. thumbs up!

Didn’t Doug Dubois get some type of loan that one of the unl secretaries co-signed his loan, when TO was informed of this he suspended him before start of the season until it got sorted out, then I believe Dubois tore his acl and was finished at nu so the NCAA dropped it because he was no longer on the team. Some of you older guys should be able to clarify this. Feel free the add or subtract my post, won’t hurt my feelings. I could be way off

Did you have a stroke or something? You sound really stupid right now. LMAO @ you!! Maybe you think Maurice Clarett should have gotten away with the stuff he did since he was a future top pick. He really got a raw deal, huh?:p

Him being a top 5 pick has nothing to do with him taking cash from a booster, getting suspended or potentially getting his team in a lot of trouble. You still need to figure out what this story is even about. I guess you think he's a great guy because he played this year but if he wasn't a selfish guy he never would have done something that could have cause major issues for his program long after he's gone for chump change when he will have millions in less than a year.

I'm embarrassed for you, please try and keep up.:)

you are aware Ohio St had 2 DEs of the same name either skip their final season entirely or skip portions of it to protect their draft stock in the last few years, right? seems to have worked out pretty well for all parties.

doing something as an incoming freshman only to have it come back several years later isn't a selfish decision that hurt the team. the ncaa is a joke, the team will face no such 'major issues'. sorry if you disagree.
