It might just be the extra hassle. There is a lot when any President is involved.
Bush (1) came to my high school way back. Secret service guys had no sense of humor and we pretty much were on lockdown for the duration. I thought I was going to have to pee out of a window, but I might have gotten my pecker shot off, if they had a marksman equivalent to Carlos Hathcock to see and hit the thing...

you know Trump won TN right? That was a math reference not political opinion.
Yes but it would have been very close if only college graduates voted, and if you count only those affluent enough to also attend college football games, I question whether he wins at all.

In short, I doubt the majority of people in the stadium Saturday will be Trump supporters, even in a red state. It's possible that Baylor is the only power conference school that would be.

There were a dozen articles I could have chosen to reference this event . I picked this one....my bad . I had no intention of making it about politics or ticket prices...again my bad . Knoxville is a very congested mess on game day at best anyway and I just can't imagine how bad it will be Saturday morning trying to get to and get into that 12 o'clock game with this POTUS soap opera added to the scene .
That stadium, in a downtown area, I can't imagine the normal mess being anything less than crazy.

Good news is that his natural skin tone will blend right in with Texas and UT fans.
I don’t think you know what the word natural means. These are natural.

I think it's cool when the President attends sporting events. Regardless of party.

But I also think that if you refuse to visit the White House because you don't like the current occupant you should receive a lifetime ban from ever visiting or being recognized by any future Presidents. You respect the office or you don't.
Wild thought here- Championship winning sports teams visiting the WH really shouldnt be a thing. And only some Championship teams being invited helps highlight how obviously unnecessary it is for any teams to be invited.

That's fine and I don't disagree......but the underlying issue is that at any given moment, half the country does not respect the presidency. That's a problem that we can ignore all we want to, but it's serious.

You're kind of burying your head in the sand here. So many of us have memory holed the way Trump behaved in the entire 10 weeks following his loss in November 2020 (including but certainly not limited to 1/6/2021), trying everything he could to steal the office from the American people.

You can't blame people for not respecting a position when the person occupying it has no respect for the position.

"Ticket prices at are just a small price to pay for having me at the game." - maybe Trump
“It’s the best game it really is. It wasn’t before I got there, but I made it the best. Better than all the little games played in the blue states. They play girls games. With their boys. I said “we’re not gonna do that”. No we play the best games, that’s why I’m here.”

Respecting the office and respecting the person holding it are not the same thing. The foundation of American democracy is built on the idea that dissent, protest, and the right to decline are not just tolerated but they're protected. A lifetime ban for exercising a personal choice (that's not illegal or unethical) is quite literally the opposite of the freedom the office is supposed to represent. Sounds like what you're describing is compelled loyalty wearing patriotism as its Halloween costume.

I'm not talking about just Trump. Plenty on the right did the same, but in my experience, the left has much more of the straight 'disrespect the country' mantra.

You can't blame people for not respecting a position when the person occupying it has no respect for the position.
It's bigger than one person. You can love the country and not love the person.

It goes even deeper. Kapernick was kneeling (with many Americans supporting it) well before Trump pulled his shlt in 2020.

It's a basic disrespect thing.....that's what bothers me. And yes, it does bother me. I'm big mad, all that stuff. It's crazy to me how people will disrespect the very country that gives you the freedom to disagree with whatever it is you're mad about. I do not want to live in a lawless society where a significant portion of people truly want to disassemble the country and go to some lesser, and likely more chaotic, form of government.

Not so sure about that. He was generally well received in Tuscaloosa, and there's not a lot of difference in them and the Tennessee fans. If I had tickets, I think I'd just stay home and watch on television tho. Not worth the hassle.

One demographic you're completely ignoring here. One group voted overwhelmingly for Trump and makes up the large majority of college football attendance. Not to mention, the congressional district Knoxville is in went more like 75% Trump in 2024. A conservative estimate would be 65% of the fans in the stadium who voted, voted for Trump.

I’ll happily send you my diesel bill for the last year and you can help pay for it.
My farming nephew said he’s having the best corn and cotton crop he’s had in a decade. Rain hit him perfectly. Peanuts are there but are a different story, ground is too dry and hard to get them out. Diesel prices are going to eat every cent of profit and then some.

Assuming you're talking about racial voting pattern differences, I'm not sure that the stadium is going to be much whiter than general population of Tennessee, but if it is, then that's a fair counterpoint.

However, it's definitely going to skew much younger, more educated, and more affluent, and all of those things suggest that there may not be a Trump majority at all.

And if we move from "voted Trump in 2024" to "supports Trump in September 2026," which is more relevant to how he'll be received there on Saturday, you can Google and see that his approval is underwater among the general population of Tennessee, and that's before the demographic adjustments to get to who will be in the crowd.

I think it's safe to say he'll be booed more than cheered if they show him on the big screen, and it will divide the fanbase when it needs to be united. Not smart to have him there.

Completely disagree. They are absolutely free to not come and exercise their right to choose. But they aren't free from the consequences of that choice. To behave as if the leader isn't "really" the leader because he or she isn't from your team is to undermine the office, the majority of voters that installed that person, and democracy itself. If you'll only pay respect to the leaders you agree with you don't believe in democracy, you believe in yourself as arbiter of right and wrong.

You're mixing up social consequences with government punishment. No one said the president isn't the leader...the point is that respecting the office doesn't require compelled loyalty to the person in it. Democracy protects the right to decline without state retaliation. Funny how fast 'respect the office’ turns into ‘show loyalty or face punishment.’ That's not democracy....sounds more like the Empire. Mon Mothma gave a great speech in the senate one time arguing precisley this point.

Sounds like your biggest beef is with President Trump himself, whose actions between November 2020 and January 2021 were the largest disrespect to the decision of the people in all of American history. No loser of a presidential election (not Carter, not the first Bush, not Hoover, etc.) has ever gone to such great lengths to overturn (steal) an election.

I will not and will never respect a president who holds the American people in such contempt. If he invited me to the White House for any reason, I would decline and let him know exactly why.

I live here - this was already gonna suck extra hard for anybody actually trying to navigate Knoxville/Alcoa area because of all those trash Texans coming here, this will just make it that much worse. The campus and stadium are pretty much downtown with I40 close buy and highway 129 from the airport is already in a perpetual roadwork state. Anticipated to be the busiest airport weekend in Knoxville history, again that was before the Trump shenanigans, and the airport is in the middle of a major expansion that has taken up much of the already limited parking.

I'm Stocking up tonight, ain't leaving my house until Sunday afternoon.

I tried to wait it out, but since apparently this is going to go on forever without being locked...

Zelenskyy is responsible for the insanely inflated diesel prices. Do some research.
Well this is false because Trump ended the Russian invasion of Ukraine before he even took office. He also ended it on his first day in office.
How are you unaware of this? He promised it dozens of times.

Quit pushing false information on us- the war ended almost 2 years ago.**

Since we are well on our way to a lock already…..

I am so tired of “well this is better than Biden did” being the fall back. Seriously?????? That’s your bar???? That’s what you are bragging about????

if the best you can say is that someone is doing a better job than Biden, it is officially time to shut it down.

the fact that both sides have set the bar at better than Trump or Biden makes me want to cry

$376 for a ticket to a 4th week matchup is insane.
$476, or whatever the cheapest was before he announced he would attend, is even more insane.

Everyone gets to spend their money how they like...this just seems like it will lead to a lot of people feeling like it wasnt money well spent in the end.
And that doesnt even take into account the potential hassle of navigating around a POTUS visit.

K for sure.
I dont know of any event that I'd spend that much just for a ticket to attend.

Lame. Weak as 17.
Why would you push such an easily checked lie? This is just sad to see.

Since election totals are being discussed now, it has fascinated me for a decade now that Trump didn't even win the popular vote until 2024, yet his chaos, lies, and vindictiveness have dominated American politics and society for over a decade now.
Really fascinating.

Got some friends in Knoxville and they had their day planned out and this has blown their plans up . Not happy .
It's already a huge pain in the *** to get to a stadium that is only accessible by road from north, south, and west, and then you go add a president to it. Geez.

Buddy, I'm trolling you. I don't really care.
This is such a shít excuse for being wrong.

It's like when JD had to admit the Haitians eating pets story was a lie and he justified it by claiming if a lie about a group of people and a city is what is needed to make a point, then it's OK to do.
