Weird melt, bro. Triggered isn't a good look for you.

I didnt melt and dont feel triggered. I posted an explanation as to why you are the king and he is the queen of terrible hypotheticals.
Claiming that was an emotional melt is...odd.

I was going to post this exact thing. I'm glad I read the thread first. Some of you have absolutely zero clue about health and health care. You can even live for a very long time with heart failure.

Was this brought forth, with intent, to attack the already weak?

Yet people keep having unprotected sex and we didn’t shut the economy down to stop them.

You want to keep things locked up, but yet you don’t chastise “protestors”. Oh Bc they wear a mask?

Ok do you support a full reopening of the economy if people wear masks when closer than 6 ft?
Social distancing is still needed. As has been pointed out to y'all over and over masks do NOT stop it. They reduce the spread. Social distancing doesn't stop it either. I'd say masks indoors in public places distancing or not. Outdoors no mask if you can keep your distance. I have not said I want to keep things locked up for several months now. We can't do it. My business is open and we are doing what we need to do, with many modifications to procedure. . My business is high risk by nature but so far so good. It's not all or nothing. Sensible things make a big difference. Look at Mississippi's numbers since we went to masks. It was predicted that we would know if it helped 3-4 weeks later.....well guess what, it helped.

As for AIDS its transmission is associated for the most part with certain voluntary acts either alone with drug use or between consenting adults otherwise. Breathing is not a voluntary act. If y'all can't see why that would make a huge policy difference then you are beyond help. Those of us in healthcare learned how to protect ourselves from blood born transmission long ago. It works very well except in the odd accident. Now if you were around in healthcare when AIDS was first becoming a thing, you have sort of gone through this before. We had to work but we were not sure at first if barrier technique would work. I was just starting out then. It was kind of scary, but we eventually worked it out. It didn't happen over night then either.

My position: Either they are effective at stopping the spread or they aren't
Your position: Yeah, but....what if......maybe they aren't stopping the spread but they are keeping it from being worse?

That's a textbook example of moving the goalposts. Either they're effective or they're not, period.
So it has to actually STOP it or it's no good then? If that is your point of view then I assume you do not use healthcare at all.

So are you chastising protests where they clearly aren’t social distancing?

That’s my point.

I know masks don’t work 100%.

DO YOU RIDICULE PROTESTORS THE SAME AS OPENING THE ECONOMY?

Which is more essential? A lady making a living cutting hair? A church? OR PROTESTING?

and they started dropping in other states without a mandate. They continued to rise for weeks and weeks in states that had mandates like California and Illinois. They have been increasing like crazy (population adjusted) in Hawaii which is still on major lockdown and has indoor and outdoor mask requirements.

Anecdotal at best.

I know I know. MS is much more likely to follow the rules than those states.. yeah right.
Interesting that the drops came exactly at the time predicted all across the south after mask mandates. Anecdotal I know. In my region after the mask mandate went mask use was still not universal, but it was WAY better than before the mandate. I have a question: What do you have against mask use? As mandated it's at worst a minor annoyance. It will NOT hurt you and it might help (It actually DOES help but I'll leave it hanging so as not to offend your sensitive nature). Why not do it?

Interesting that the drops came at the exact same point that many of us predicted for months was the breakover point for natural slowing and herd immunity.

And that the spike happened virtually directly related to time indoors due to summer weather and are starting to slow as much of the country eases into fall.

And how am I supposed to wear a mask and drink a beer? Where is the protests for those of us who like to consume on the move?!? *

Yes I am. Just not here. We are all mostly in agreement here those are insane for the most part. The protesters should be at best prosecuted for violating COVID orders. The worst of them need to be treated as the insurrectionists they are. Some of y'all still can't get it through your heads that I am NOT a lefty. There are a couple here that do know that, from past debates on other boards, LOL! I have NOT been ridiculing opening the economy. We had to do that. That doesn't mean that we still can't sensible precautions. It's not all or nothing either way. Most of what we are being asked to do now is what will enable us to have it open. Y'all don't even like THAT .

Masks do not cause sickness or disease. They just don't. That is flat out junk science. We in healthcare have been wearing them for extended periods for years with no ill effects. I've worn them every working day for over 30 years. Surgeons wear them for hours at a time for days on end. They don't get sick. Your statement that they do has no basis in fact, NONE. They dang sure aren't going to hurt you while you run into the beer store to get your Bud Light.

If you are in healthcare, you're being intentionally dishonest and should be ashamed of yourself. Healthcare workers wear disposable masks designed to block expellant within a sterile environment, not cloth masks for an eight hour period in non-sterile environments. There are different types of masks, constructed specifically for the environment they were purposed for, from surgical masks to n-95 masks. Cloth masks are virtually useless.

There's tons of information out there regarding negative affects of masking. For you to find it would actually require you to be honest and open minded about something, which I know you can't do.

We have not reached the threshold need for that yet. You live in a fantasy world when it comes to that. Our offical rate is 2.5%. Even if you accept the guestimate for undiscovered cases that's still just 25%. It will take at least 70%. THAT fact is not in dispute by anyone reputable.

It ain't fall HERE yet, LOL. My AC is still going full blast, and how. I just got the bill today.....sigh.

Oh my word! The only healthcare environment that is sterile is an OR, MAYBE, at best, when it works right. I don't EVER work in a sterile field. Nor do tons of other healthcare workers. It's impossible. We still wear the masks, and have for 30 years. It's to protect you from us, even in a non-sterile field. Cloth masks were used for decades for exactly that same purpose.

I want to hear about these negative effects of masking. Tell me some, you don't even have to link. I'll take your word, for what you believe.

I don't know where you are, but in my area, the most adamant mask proponents are yelling at everybody to wear one so we can literally stop the virus. People either treat masks as totally worthless or as THE cure for all things covid. There is no in between.

This is really the heart of things. The same four idiots arguing with me in this thread fall into your description of the cure for all things covid. I have stated many times that wearing a mask when you're in a crowded area and can't social distance is fine. But what I am pushing back on is this idea that these masks stop the spread of covid, because they don't. It's not even an arguable point. But yet we get the same stupidity over and over.

Based on your comments, you must be the biohazard guy who comes and cleans medical facilities. Otherwise, you demonstrate, post over post, that you don't have the first damn clue what you're talking about.

I have first-hand evidence of a kid down the street who was hospitalized for a severe respiratory infection brought on by wearing a cloth mask. His parents told me their doctor said they are seeing lots of cases similar to it. Since my kid is his friend, I've done some research on it, and there's plenty of info out there, if you're willing to check your rather large and completely unearned ego on the subject.

Hey what was the material of the mask in this picture.

Non woven masks like you say is required for all healthcare to be "Sterile" were invented in the 1960's. What was used before then?

And as for the kid down the street, his family should clean the mask every day. Just like underwear.

That’s a lie and/or willfully ignorant.

Leaves turning and falling all over northwest Arkansas and Louisville Ky. Little dew in the mornings. Air drying out. Still a few hot days, but dry 70* mornings more often than not. Of course it’s a couple of weeks away in Starkville, Tuscaloosa, and Baton Rouge. But it’s here in a nice portion of the southeast. People won’t be spending nearly the amount of time in the AC in Sept that they have the last couple of months. Even less in October and November. We’ll see where December/Jan/Feb leave us in flu season and whether the virus still has enough juice to test our systems again. Put me on record for saying that I don’t think it will.

Because none of us thought anyone would be stupid, ignorant, and illiterate enough to think after 6 months of data on why to wear masks, anyone would think something as simple as a mask would STOP covid.

But here you are.

Mask reduce the spread, which reduces the R0, which allows people to go back to work, which reopens the economy, which is a good thing.

I cannot believe I had to type that to a literate person on August 31st...

You bring up an interesting point. Do you think poor kids wear clean masks to school? They don’t wear clean clothes to school. Not just kids, this applies to adults as well. Do you think the mask mandates could be doing more harm than good, especially in poor areas? Is that possible?

As always you are wrong about me, and most everything else. I HAVE checked, a long time ago. I told you I have to wear them all the time. Funny, the local pulmonology people are requiring their sickest to wear them. They say it's about 1 in a million people that might have a legit problem, and those know who they are and shouldn't be out of the house in the first place, Even if Covid goes away. Masks do not cause respiratory infections, period. Now if it's cloth you DO need to wash the dang thing. If it's disposable you can reuse them, but you need to let them sit for a while. There is no scientific evidence to support that masks cause respiratory infections. Tell me this, why do you think they cause problems? What has your extensive research told you?

You are correct, it is disputed by people who are ignorant of the science. I retract that statement.

It's still hot and humid in the places that are showing nice reductions from their spikes. The places y'all that have been pointing out that are still spiking are not as hot and humid, the common denominator was recently instructed mask mandates. In other words where mask usage is going up.
