If we had a team full of Bobby Perry's we would win 8-10 games a season. You might be happy about that, but do not think most UK fans (aka all others, other than you) would be IMO.
They definitely wouldn’t be happy . But I guess it’s the cool thing to say huh.

Ask every single person on this board if they would have left college after a year if offered the money NBA lottery picks get and 100% of them would leave.
Well, of course we would’ve if that opportunity presented itself AFTER the season. But that doesn’t mean we need to enter the season with the mindset of that being our only college objective.

Which is the impression given when your top recruit explicitly says his goal at UK is “to get out of there as soon as possible” …months before he’s due to even begin. This is the first time I’ve heard a recruit so bluntly say what we know they’ve been thinking.

Just don't understand why everyone is all up in arms about a statement a kid made.

With the current state of the program and turnover with players you not understanding why people would view “get out of there” negatively is certainly something. I appreciate you phrasing it as “up in arms” though, so as to make people sound like they’re being hysterical. Either way it sounds like you agree with everyone anyway.

it's no different than what countless past players we loved DID, they just didn't say it. Got people here calling for his decommitment. Bit of an overreaction is all I was trying to point out. Let's give him a fair shake, from everything I've heard about his motor and energy he may be a fan favorite.

The biggest thing I always gave props to Cal to was his ability to get these kids to love UK when they were here, if only for a year. I’m sure some kids felt this way coming into UK and college in general but their attitude changed quickly. I don’t know if Cal can do this with this kid. That’s a troubling attitude to make public, not just for the University but for the kid too. Never want to be looking ahead all the time.

I agree 100% with this, I am absolutely looking forward to seeing him play and hope he’ll be great for us. But the comment was ridiculous. 100% the worst answer I’ve heard from a player that I can remember. It deserves criticism.

You're trying really hard here so kudos for your effort Mr. Press Secretary. But you're not ever going to convince Kentucky fans to not be put off by a guy who says his goal is to "get out of here as soon as possible" before he ever even sets foot on campus. It's not going to happen.

I get it, the phrasing was bad, just trying to stave off the folks calling for him to GTFO before we actually get a chance to see how he plays.

Offering some perspective, many players we have had and loved demonstrated the same mindset, so no need to throw the baby out with the bath water because one _kid_ made a bad soundbyte. He'll get the PR coaching when he gets here and Cal is probably shaking his head when he heard that.

I'm not suggesting the guy decommits. But it was a bad ****ing answer one way or the other, and not one any of our fans are in any mood to hear right now. It just speaks to the culture that has been created IMO.

I don’t think many want him gone though . Maybe a couple of folks . The majority still want him here but are just disappointed with the answer . It’s bad timing with this fan base all things considered .

This isn’t every other profession. There are players that are willing to stay multiple years, develop, and play for UK and not just themselves but our coach refuses to get basically any of them. How is it possible that we can get basically 0 players that really want to play for UK and the university and stay multiple years.
I want a coach who develops a Jay Wright type situation here. Recruits players fitting into his system. Keeps players around and develop them into contenders. Always has players waiting in the wing to replace the ones who move on. I know Cal could never be that coach even if he tried. I am envious of Nova.

That never happened with Bobby as a player, so idk what you’re talking about. That’s only happened under Cal. Were you unhappy about last year?

How dare a a player have aspirations to want to play in the NBA and to go to a school that allows those dreams to come true...FAR CAL!!!! I guess we don't want future NBA players anymore? POsters cry when talented athletes go to other schools and then we cry when we get players who are talented to want to play in the NBA...

It is pretty hilarious to see posters latch onto anything of significance in an attempt to further their agenda.

Complete nonsense.

Did Kentucky fans have a problem with John Wall, Boogie Cousins, Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, Tyler Herro etc. etc. etc. "having aspirations" and going to the NBA?

No, of course they didn't.

"get out of there as soon as possible" <<==== that's the issue at hand here.

Kentucky fans simply want the guys that are playing here to be dialed into the program and winning as much as possible, even if it's for just one season in the case of elite players.

The University of Kentucky and it's fans give unparalleled support and pay $millions upon $millions of dollars for these players and coaches to be treated like Gods and celebrities and so they deserve and are quite correct to expect better than this.

Hope that helps.

Let’s just be real, he said exactly what is being used to recruit him. It’s “get out of there as soon as possible” instead of “get in there and win a NC”. That is the goal, get them in, get them out and on to the next. Cals retirement from UK will be fine, he can always go be an agent for all the kids he has in the league.

Guys like MKG and Wall had to be told by Cal they *had* to leave, and they were guaranteed top 5 draft picks.

You think that’s the same as “I can’t wait to get out of there ASAP”? The same as Sharpe not even being willing to play? We’ve come a long way smh.
How can you live in today's world and believe anything you just wrote!!! Don't be that guy

He was asked about him and Livingstons goals at UK and said "we want to go far into our college season and get out of there as soon as possible" LMAO UK has become a joke as far as whether our players even want to be here. I get that they all have dreams of playing in the NBA but my lord. About 3 min mark if you want to watch.

I don’t care to watch the video, but did he really say exactly what you quoted?

While this mindset is tough for fans to deal with you're kidding yourself if you don't think every top flight player shares the same sentiment.
Yeah. Does anybody think the 5-star players committed to Arkansas are planning on spending multiple years in Fayetteville?

Everybody's assuming Wallace is referring to the fan pressure, but what if it's the other way around and he doesn't want to be coached too long by Cal? He wants the exposure but doesn't want his game ruined?

This program is broken. It s a glorified NBA prep school with a coach who couldn’t care less about winning. Can’t blame Wallace for saying it as he’s a for sure one and done but damn UK basketball sucks now. Not sure if it a college basketball in general problem or a Cal problem but I’m sure glad the NFL and College football is still fun to watch. College basketball is dead

The majority of the people on here that are really put off by this comment are not saying he should decommit. We're just saying it was a ****** quote and kind of embarrassing to the program.
Exactly. I’m guessing 99% of our fanbase doesn’t even follow recruiting. I know I don’t. Other than seeing these two players’ names on this forum, I couldn’t even name a single recruit we have coming in. After seeing this thread, I can already say these two won’t be on any fan’s favorite player list. And that sucks.

This is UK’s rep these days. It’s what Cal has pushed during his time here. The program benefited from it 10-15, now its become a monster that no one, including Cal, can change.

So does this mean the fans no longer need to “just enjoy the process”???

Since it’s ALL out in the open now, Cal can just ADMIT that UK is MERCENARY U. No need for the BS Lies about how enthused these kids are to win it here. If that happens fine, but it is no longer even the SECOND priority anymore.

So be it.
