Can’t figure out why we refused to blitz. NW line might be the best in the big ten. We weren’t going to get there with 4 man rush. Chins went vanilla and we paid
If you slow down the tape and watch 28 + 42, every time the middle of the line ran a stunt, those two would run into a filled gap and get pancaked. I thought after watching their terrible play last year, they’d snap out of it. They don’t have JOJO moping up their mistakes this year.

Did you buy the hype?
Yes, he's still good. Pressure is something that bad coaching decisions end up placing on QBs.
A co worker told me he couldn’t tell whether Martinez was bad ‘cause the line was never good. I balked at that and felt we were still getting a better QB in CT. After todays game, I’m thinking he’s right. Our line still sucks and maybe it is the result of bad quarterback play.
Martinez might well look a lot better at KSU. His struggles were partly his own, but were also heavily the result of NU's coaching staff.
That onside kick was everything today. You end up putting pressure and doubt in the heads of your own players at a moment when they are starting to pull away.

Yeah I still can't figure out how we have the WR room we have and the 2 picks come off of the hands of Miller and Liewer...
Why they were playing when we clearly have more talented WR's is beyond me. It's the kind of BS that makes you wonder are there divisions going on between Frost and the OC staff.

I agree with this. The onside kick was totally unnecessary especially when we had the momentum. Instead we gave the momentum to Northwestern.

I thought he was ok. Made some good throws. He has a much weaker arm than I thought. His ball had a lot of wobble to it and took a while to get to the outside come backs.

I would have like to have seen #’s 2, 3,4 +7 never leave the field…
On defense, 42 + 28 should have seen more of the sidelines.. Nick is sloooowwwwwwww. And seems to always be locked up with an o-line man getting his Arz kicked..
I know it’s first game together, but our safeties need to get their coverage reads quicker and tackle in open space a bit better, especially when our middle linebackers play terrible!
Did you see #5 ???He makes Heinrich look like Husain Bolt

I think he throws a better ball than AM. Leads the receiver's much better than AM. Better presence in the pocket than AM. His two picks honestly should have been completed passes. But he lost the game just like AM did. We need a clutch guy, and I'm not sure who that is!

His ball definitely wobbles. Looks like Peyton Mannings passes. But he seems to have good timing though.

He played fine. It wasn't his fault 2 of his receivers couldn't catch balls that them in the hands.
Exactly. If Vokelek stays in the game we win. His substitute missed some crucial throws Volelek would have caught. This is one reason CT was less effective in the second half.

28 points isn’t going to cut it. We can blame the onside kick all we want for the L. But at the end of the day, this offense has issues moving forward regardless of todays outcome
I completely agree with what you said. AND it can’t be overstated how important momentum and confidence are in sports. The sec Frost failed with his idiotic onside kick, Husker Nation (including players) felt the same stomach pain/nauseated feeling that only Frost himself can deliver.

Of all the relievers on the roster, the last possession of the game and we run Wyatt Liewer out there? Is that Scott Frost or Mickey making that choice.

What I appreciated about AM is that he would take off and run to get the yards. I didnt see CT do that
Up until the onside kick there was no need to run. He had us up by 11 with the momentum on our side. I believe what cost us the game was the onside kick and the loss of Vokelek.

CT is a better passer than Martinez. Much quicker release and more accurate.

Chins has always sucked. Dude is a clown
He's had his moments, but he's not that impressive. Very conservative. You can dial up some blitz in college. Pelini knew that. Most college quarterbacks will get Happy feet

I thought CT looked good, particularly in the first half, for his first game here & a new OC. Unfortunately his first game was against B1G competition. I thought he could have led the receivers a bit more on his throws.

He's had 1/4 good years mainly because we had six 6th year players last year on D.

I was more disappointed in our LB today. They were all garbage.

He played really well. He’s obviously an upgrade at QB. He made a few outstanding throws, literally dropped passes in over a defender or threw on a rope where the ball needed to be. Extended some plays, protection was spotty at times.

Could have kept one of the 3rd down reads. Threw a little too hard at times. A few drops.

Sheesh people, even tom brady throws incompletions sometimes. Do some fans honestly expect qbs to go 30/30 every game?

See, I thought he threw behind a couple guys on crossing routes. He hit a few in stride though. The crossing route to Palmer around the 5 yard line comes to mind. He had to jump and slow down for it. Both pics were the same. Not awful throws but throws where receivers had to reach up and back a little.

Let’s not forgot the near pick right before his first interception. It’s like when the wheels fell off, it was all of them.

I suspect it will come out that Thompson either reinjured his thumb or suffered some other injury. Nothing else would really account for the stark contrast in performance.

Agree, the first pass to the TE should have been picked. But the next pass to Martin he made no effort to catch the ball. He did the same rhino against Wiscknsin last season.

Sometimes the QB throws behind the WR on crossing routes so he doesn't get beheaded. I'm not saying he didn't make some bad throws, but he was mostly accurate.

Without going back and watching this painful film again, he was inconsistent at best. Early on, he had good rhythm, was getting his feet set and getting the ball out on time. Watching today and some of his Texas game film, throwing the deep routes has not been his strength as he tends to underthrow. The first TD was a beautifully placed ball. The second half, NW figured they could handle us up front without much back help so the safeties could get some depth and keep things in front of him. He missed a really bad deep ball that was wide open and at least one out that was a basic pitch and catch. Then he got to drilling the ball in the underneath stuff and combined with throwing it behind the receivers is going to get you in trouble. Were not both INT's from tipped balls by our receivers and thrown behind them? Sure, you can say, it you can touch it you can catch it but when you are a TE and have to turn completely around you are asking a lot. The lack of a running game didn't help as well. There certainly was no reason to run play fakes.

AM would have put the ball on ground at least twice and would never have made half the throws as CT..
CT just needed receivers in 2nd half that are D1 caliber..
CT under 60%, two picks, sacked twice, -18 yards rushing.

His best play was a play where AM would have just turned the corner and gained 25 yards.
