Some call it emotion others call it passion

It is funny how one can be described based on the person's feelings toward said person.

If you like him, he showing passion
If you hate him, he's too emotional or combative.

I'm not saying you or the previous user have this thought, but I've seen examples of this when it comes to describing someone.

I loved Bobby as a player, one of the best ever, but he has a look of pouting on the sidelines at times. Some emotion out of the head coach is fine, but I think he comes a little unglued at times, too much to be a major D1 coach.

Just wow.

I’m curious as to what his offer was from Pitt… Dan Hurley was offered three mill a year so will be interesting to see what they offered Jeff…

It's always interesting to see how the school words it. Dan Hurley was offered 400K or so per year, plus another 2.5 million for speaking fees, etc. etc.

Wow, did not see this coming. I have a hard time believing that if he wanted to coach that there aren’t better oppurtunties than Pitt. That place is a dumpster fire right now. I mean do they even have enough to field a squad?

I asked evan daniels when he thought 1 and done would go away. He said from everyone he's asked the nba would start with the 2020 class

Having a wife from pittsburgh I will definitely attest that it is a very passionate fan base that he can garner good support right away and it’s a very very cool city… But being in the ACC with other Giants it is a little intriguing that there was not a better opportunity out there.

Duke is always very tight lipped with information about basketball moves so we'll never know if this is a plan to give Capel more head coaching experience, or he simply doesn't want to wait any longer, or if he's been told he's not the likely successor. I suspect that the next head coach will be chosen for reasons that aren't apparent to us. Wins and losses at another school may not be the most important criteria. After all, if it was, Coach K wouldn't have been hired.

Yea I didn’t really mean to be negative about PITT, more just thinking that he would have had better offers if he really wanted to leave. I wish him the best, he did a heck of a job and I’m sad to see him go.

I think this opens Duke's job up to Amaker, Wojo and Collins...

With a preference of Wojo of those 3. Love his fire. I can see him slapping the floor already as a 60 year old coach.... Next choice would be Amaker, I know K loves Amaker as a leader. Collins can obviously coach, even though he just loved to shoot it volume at Duke in his playing days...

I thought Capel was a near lock. It would be interesting to see what Capel's buyout is if the Duke job opens up in 3,4,5 years... If I was Jeff, I would want a rather non-binding deal, which is said to be a 7 year deal. If I was him I would have a 1M buyout... something significantly less than he would make if he took the Duke job when it opens. I thought when Capel turned down the ASU job, he was all but guaranteed to be the next head coach... Would be a great place to live and it has been a decent program in the past...

Another name to consider for the replacement is Mike White, the AD's son...

I would think K has earned the right to name his replacement, and that it would have to be a former player... but I think K said that he would not be involved in that or that he wouldn't have the final say. To me his word on who it should be is everything.

Yes and thanks to Jeff for all he has done. The way he relates to the kids forges a bond. He can talk their talk, but still coach them up. He is a big loss, especially recruiting wise.

I'm surprised that you guys think Capel would be/will be the heir to Coach K. I have never seen him as such and I think his past history as a head coach leaves a lot to be desired.

K's successor will be hand-picked by K. That's why I doubt it's Brad Stevens. In fact, I'd be beyond shocked.

They seem to have a really great relationship and a lot of respect for one another. K had him in his Sirius show not too long ago and it seems like they have been fairly close over the years. That said, doesn’t seem like he’d have any reason to leave the Celtics any time soon.

I didn't see this coming either. I do think it means Coach K is going to be around for a few more years. As far as the next coach goes it hasn't changed as to the speculation of who it may be. It could still be Amaker, Capel, Hurley, Collins, Wojo, Stevens or any of the others we have mentioned on so many threads. I do think when Coach K does retire he will come out and say "this is my my last year here at Duke" not that he wants a farewell tour but to give the program at least a year to find the replacement. I do not think that person is already determined. Maybe this is why Coach Capel took the Pitt. job. Whatever the case may be I personally want to thank Jeff Capel for his service to Duke as a player and coach for all these years. He's made Duke better and I hope he wins every game he coaches except against Duke. OFC
