Is Ethan Piper not considered an O-line recruit? Maybe I missed something but 3 thus far in 2019 and still counting. Over 25% of the class thus far is O-line commits. Seems like the staff knows the scholarship count at O-line. Plus, don't be surprised when Walker moves back out of necessity and for earlier playing time

I hope so, he seems better suited to OL with his frame.

That Fielding H. Yost guy is really becoming a stick in my craw! We'll never recover from his mismanagement of the roster.

I noticed in the article on the front page that the writer used the wording "Nebraska suffered its first academic casualty," as if someone already knows that it won't be the last. That's certainly disconcerting.

I don't think we get any of those three and that's probably why they were still available for NU later in the process. But I hope I'm wrong.

With Canty, it should be interesting to see how he does at GCCC. If he starts two seasons and earns post-season honors, he could find himself highly recruited and possibly coming back to NU as a contender for immediate playing time. If he doesn't pan out at the juco level, well he wasn't going to make it at NU anyway. And I doubt he would have played many snaps his first two years here anyway. So this may not be that tough of a loss.
Juco players rarely end up at the schools they originally commit to.

I heard d line and question it. Might be a wait and see guy.

We seemed thin at 3-4 DE then, now we are thinner at OL.

So let the kid play OT.

Question is probably his feet. He might be a plodder. I have no idea, but if he can't move his feet, he's a 3-4 DE for sure.

Maybe. But Coach Sims down there has connections to our staff and he literally said that he wants to get Canty ready "to play for the Cornhuskers down the road."

Probably less than even probability that Canty gets to Lincoln. But Sims coaching him makes it more likely than it otherwise would be.

Agree. Not because of anything Canty or Sims can control. It will be two recruiting cycles, things will change. Hopefully by then there will be less of a need for a JUCO OLineman.

If Canty stays connected to the staff and does the work to develop, I hope they stay with him, as they may really want a kid who has to go the JUCO route down the line.

So you think a staff should take a player that they may not need just to keep the lines of communication open for a possible future placement? I’m not sure I would buy that logic. I see where you’re coming from, I just don’t think that makes sense. If I wanted to keep the lines of communication open with a juco, it would be to get a player from them in the future. But again I wouldn’t take a player just to keep the line open. I can do that with phone calls and taking players from that school that I actually need.

No, but if in a couple of years NU is recruiting 3 Olinemen and it's a coin toss between Canty and another guy for the third spot, he gets the nod.

Fair enough. I am just saying that in 2 years, hopefully the 9 guys we currently have in the fold and the 3 additional guys we bring in this year, will be developing at a pace where we won’t need Juco OL and can start working on developing 4 year guys and still not putting on band aids.

2 years at Garden city JC. Watt and Washington still on the fence.

I am not familiar with the rules with Juco transfers. Can a Juco player come out after one year, when they do not academically qualify or do they have to complete two years of study?

Depends

At your two-year school, did you:
1. Graduatefromyourtwo-yearschool?Youmust have earned 25 percent of your credit hours at your two-year school awarding your degree.
2. Completeatleastthreesemestersorfour quarters as a full-time student? Summer school does not count.
3. Complete48transferablecredithoursifyour school uses semesters or 72 transferable credit hours if your school uses quarters?*
Your transferable credit hours must include all the following subjects:
• English: six hours if your school uses semesters or eight hours if your school uses quarters
• Math: three hours if your school uses semesters or four hours if your school uses quarters
• Natural/physical science: three hours if your school uses semesters or four hours if your school uses quarters
4. Earn a GPA of 2.500 in those transferable credit hours?
If YES to all
P You can practice, get an athletics scholarship and
compete as soon as you transfer.**
If YES to 1, 2 and 3, NO to 4, and your GPA is
2.00–2.49
P You can practice and get an athletics scholarship as soon as you transfer.
V You cannot compete until you sit out for an academic year in residence.
If NO to any
V You cannot practice, get an athletics scholarship or compete until you sit out for an academic year in residence.

Sorry for the poor cut and paste job

Juco OL are some of the most valuable guys out there. Recruiting them doesn't mean it's a bandaid but probably a good player that we want.

They can be. But if an established coach is recruiting JUCO OL after a few years, they are either recruiting studs that are leaving early for the league or they have missed on multiple OL and need depth as a result.

You may get one every once in a while, but there is a reason for it.
