Obviously not a "Rutgers man". Good riddance. Let's be honest, Ash probably told him to look elsewhere. Wasn't a top flight B1G caliber recruit. Ash wants to compete with OSU, not Indiana.

Ya I'm sure he told the DPOY in Central NJ, your backyard, to go take a hike hahaha

With his strong bond to RU and his family's connection to the school as well and Ash saying he wanted to keep him, something is amiss here that we're not hearing about. Usually I can understand a decommitment if the player is say from FLA and has no school connections, this one is just hard to understand.

After his commitment there were questions whether he still had an interest in Pitt. Once Flood was fired, maybe the kid finally found his out to follow what he thinks is his real dream school --- Pitt. RU was just a favorite because mom and dad liked it, but may not have been a real strong affinity for him.

I think every recruit we lose at this point is a bit concerning. Time is of the essence and we cannot wait until 1/2/16 for Ash to hit the pavement. I think National Signing day is February 3rd, what does that give him 30 days to recruit kids. Can fans now see why he should be here right now!

From Coach Ash's introductory press conference:

"Moving forward, I have a message for fans, supporters, administrators, players, basically anybody that loves this program: We need to create some positive energy around this program. It's going to take an extreme amount of work. It's going to take a lot of the right people going in the same direction. Organizational alignment here in this athletic department and in this football program is going to be essential to our success."

In the spirit of HCCA's request to create some positive energy, can we table the discussion about his split schedule and its impact or lack of impact until at least February 4th instead of harping on it in real-time, day after day?

OK I agree with you let's wait and see what transpires on the recruiting front between 1/2/16 and 2/3/16.

We all want the same thing and we need to give our new coach a chance. I'm really optimistic about the program for the first time in a long time.

Since he can't meet in person, does it matter where he is? He can contact recruits via phone, text or social media where ever he is. Clearly, he is not waiting until after the game, just added a big component today.

While some decommits should be expected when there is a coaching change lets all be honest that since Ash came on board we haven't added one new recruit and we have lost a few. It doesn't mean things won't change between now and NSD but right now we are only losing players

I wouldn't be surprised to see Campbell on offense at Pitt. Kid could be 210 with speed. We had him as a safety but he's a good RB too.

Since the 2005 season, Rutgers record is 82-57.....Pitt's record is 76-61.
Also since 2005....head-to-head Rutgers 5 wins.....Pitt 3
Yeah, Pitt had a nice season in 2015....and Rutgers stunk. But let's not get carried away.
Overall we've been better than you for a while now.
Really, fairly similar. Neither have had much to boast about.

The era you're using spans Rutgers' "glory years" (including a dream season in 06 I believe) with presumably the best players to ever step foot on your football field playing during that time period. Pitt, on the other hand, had about 37 coaching changes, blown up recruiting classes, and what feels like an endless supply of 6-6 seasons..

Your RU 5, Pitt 3 comparison is fair, but I believe you won 4 straight at the beginning of the period in which you reference, which means, in recent history, you didn't fair as well as the score indicates..

While 2005-2015 wasn't Pitt's "dark ages", it was pretty bad.. Yet when you compare the records of the two teams, it is comparable, with a slight edge to RU..

And RU plays in the tougest division in CFB, Pitt in the ACC Coastal where only UNC had a real team.

Relax. For the first time in a long time, there's NATIONAL hype around our program.

Things are looking up.

There is no need for RU and Pitt fans to engage in a pissing contest over a recruit or two.

They are both promising programs with enormous potential in their own ways.
As fans, we also have a common hatred for Pen State.

It's a win-win for both programs and fanbases if RU & Pitt are strong.

What I find ironic and amusing is that some of the people saying "no big deal, he's only a 3 star" etc. etc. would be in full melt down mode if he had decommitted while Flood was the coach.

Much more concerning if a decommitt happens with the coaching staff they committed to. It's very common for decommits to happen with new staffs. Lots of decommits happening across the country. No big deal.

Campbell is talented, but I'm not going to lose sleep over a recruit leaving because he was quietly leaning Pitt and not getting to play for Flood and Rossi is what pushed him over the edge. Yikes.

This whole class could decommit and it would still be worth it just to have gotten new blood into the coaching tree. One more free scholarship.

Good luck Phil. Next.

probably because
(1.) he was a Flood Commit - product of Flood investing time & interest in him - to have had him flip on Flood would be a real statement on Flood's clout.

(2.) the general expectation would be that Flood would not have much ability to obtain another recruit of a similar or better level - whether Ash is able to do so remains to be seen but opinion leans toward it being possible

A coaching change is followed by decommits, just the nature of the beast. Any highly ranked commitment from the 2016 class at this point is gravy. Ash will be judged by the '17 class and every one after that.

We're in the recruiting dead period till like Jan 14th.
12/14/15 - 1/13/16 Dead
1/14/16 - 1/30/16 Contact
1/31/16 Quiet
2/1/16 - 2/4/16 Dead

Is it correct that written and electronic communication is OK during dead period? I got this off of SB Nation:
http://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...ball-recruiting-periods-dead-quiet-evaluation

The dead period is the most restrictive. No in-person contact is allowed, even if a prospect makes a visit to the college campus. Written and electronic communications are still permitted. And yet, prospects still do decide to commit to schools in late December and early January, often because they've considered all their options, taken all their visits, and are ready to pull the trigger.

The quiet period tightens things a bit more, preventing any off-campus contact or viewing. Visits to the college's campus and written or electronic communications are still permitted.Coaches often try to have prospects visit campus unofficially during this time in the spring and early summer, so that they can become familiar with campus.

Watch his film. He will light people up on defense. He is the anti-Cioffi. He can actually make a tackle.

You can't say much better team without them playing each other.

Beating Youngstown St by only 8 is not that impressive.

Pitt has had a better season but Rutgers has clearly been the better program over the last decade.

But historically you must admit, you have played one of the worst OOC scedules in all of of Div. 1. While Pitt was playing the likes of ND, Iowa, Nebraska, Texas A&M and Michigan St. out of conference, Rutgers feasted on a bunch of teams no one ever heard of. No guts, no glory!

Beyond that you can't even begin to compare Rutger's FB tradition with Pitt's. . Pitt has more players in the college and pro FB hall of fame than Rutgers could ever dream of having. Add to that Pitt has 9 national championships. Pitt's admin. now wants to win in FB. Sorry, but that being the case, you guys don't stand a chance head to head going forward. Enjoy playing the scum up in state college along with powers like Indiana, Maryland, Illinois and Purdue.

There's going to need to be a lot of work done in less than a month on this recruiting class. We currently stand at 14 commits and I'm not so sure those are all solid. After the last two subpar classes I don't think Ash is going to have the horses to make this wagon go. Yes I'm concerned, but I'm usually a nervous nelly. I hope Ash can pull some recruits in but in such a short time frame I'm doubtful. This is going to be three subpar recruiting years in a row not good at all.
imilar thing happened at Pitt and our depth took a hit. If Ash is the guy you think he is, he can build the program and you will be ok. Took time at Pitt and is still a work in progress.

lol.....2 posts and this is what you say..... you're still in the Hugh Green era....give it up.....were the better team now...and trending...real powers would be confident enough to laugh it off..shame some Pitt guys are aware their behind Temple too this yr.... though doubt they'd concede anything...this yr you guys were only ok in a weaker schedule ACC..
