Have you seen his film. This kid is a special teams demon in addition to being terrific safety/rb. He was easily one of RU top three recruits.

ok I'll bite..since it's easy give me the top 2 besides this guy and I can consider all the rest
that are so easily beneath him

Seems like he only committed here to make his parents happy and was waiting for an excuse to go elsewhere. The coaching change gave him that. But Pitt? C'mon kid, you might wanna rethink that.

Obviously not a "Rutgers man". Good riddance. Let's be honest, Ash probably told him to look elsewhere. Wasn't a top flight B1G caliber recruit. Ash wants to compete with OSU, not Indiana.

He would not have made personal visit, with his time constraints this week, to tell him to look elsewhere.

Doesn't matter. Just like it didn't matter in the long run when we basically hired Flood to save some recruits.

Is it that hard to analyze things at a macro level?

Like you said, is it worth saving an average recruiting class for the sake of a coach? Rutgers has a lot of young players who saw the field this year. It's not like most of the freshmen would have come in and started or saw plenty of playing time. Rutgers just needs to get the right coach and set the ship straight, so everything from schemes to coaching to culture sets the stage for recruits being truly interest in playing for Rutgers. No more lip service.

What does that even mean, "rutgers man". So I guess he's a Pitt man then. We needed this kid. He's an upgrade over what we have. I am 100% certain Ash did not give this kid the heave ho. He was under a lot of pressure to commit to RU in the first place. It never really seemed to be his dream school. Regime change is the excuse he needed to break off. I do wish Campbell well. We'll have to bring in the best players who want to fight right here in Jersey.

Ffrench and Campbell were the HNT offensive and defensive POY, and both are Pitt verbals. Talk about Pitt raiding the chicken coop....
It was never too difficult to recruit against Flood. When you aim low, you finish low. I think Ash will push for something greater.

I would imagine Ash made the visit to get a feel on Campbell. Keep in mind that he said he would honor all of the commits. So a visit doesn't always mean he was a high priority. My guess is that Ash pretty much felt this was a decommit waiting to happen and wanted to see him as soon as possible. The decommit so shortly after only tells me they both came away it was going to happen. Otherwise, how would you explain a DB commit preferring to play under Flood/Rissi rather then a DB guru.
Seems Campbell never wanted to be here anyway. When he started talking when Rene committed.

It's not over. Still hasn't made an OV and Ash and staff have time to build a relationship.

I don't think too many people picked up on that when it happened. Campbell didn't want to be here, but needed a reason to go elsewhere. Change in the staff was an easier sell to decommit.

Campbell is 18, but he got upset when Flood kept recruiting DBs, now decommits, first time I've ever said this, but its probably best that he doesn't come here

Think you're pretty much on the money. -And that being the case, I'd just like to say to Mr. Campbell...Buh-bye.

Alice Cooper wrote a pretty good song about being 18:

There's going to need to be a lot of work done in less than a month on this recruiting class. We currently stand at 14 commits and I'm not so sure those are all solid. After the last two subpar classes I don't think Ash is going to have the horses to make this wagon go. Yes I'm concerned, but I'm usually a nervous nelly. I hope Ash can pull some recruits in but in such a short time frame I'm doubtful. This is going to be three subpar recruiting years in a row not good at all.

There is no way you can put a positive spin on this. No way. Don,t even try!

Always the chance the recruit that replaces him is just as good or better.
Losing the kid isn't a good thing, but not the end of world.

Ash is a db guru. You'd think he'd be all over the defensive back recruits. Maybe he's looking at another recruit to bring in at safety.
Ash stated he wanted Campbell in an article by Hunt. If Campbell really wanted to come to RU, he could have --- he chose not to. Have to question how much of a Rutgers fan he really was.

B1G or ACC. No comparison. I compare him to Vonn Bell at OSU who is an Ash protege
Seen this a few times in this thread. Most kids commit to a school. The differences in the power 5 conferences don't really impact them much. Most kids won't choose one school over the other because of schools they're not going to.

Ash stated that he will honor all commitments to the previous regime, but Hunt also said "Ash doesn't tell recruits what they want to hear." We already knew from Flood's recruitment of Campbell that he needed a lot of hand holding and reassurances. That ain't our new culture, baby!

I think that Ash's brutal honesty is a GREAT strategy. While we will probably miss some recruits that we would otherwise get, the recruits we do get will have bought into Ash's philosophy, have no misconceptions coming in, and will be more likely to stay with the program for the full 4/5 years. One thing that helped sink Flood here, as well as Golden in Miami, was high attrition rates. You can't develop players unless they stay the course.

Stop with these stupid rationalizations. Ash lost a really good player for the moment. Now let's see if he really is a good recruiter.

I will say this a hundred times, we will lose an absolute ton of people from this class, it will be the 2017 class that will mean the difference for Ash.

With his strong bond to RU and his family's connection to the school as well and Ash saying he wanted to keep him, something is amiss here that we're not hearing about. Usually I can understand a decommitment if the player is say from FLA and has no school connections, this one is just hard to understand.

I understand this 2016 recruiting class is going to have decommits and maybe some surprise commits so I'm not going to be upset as long as we get a solid coaching staff...but that doesn't mean we make misinformed & irrationale statements about people...Campbell is a stud and easily one of the best in NJ...do your HW folks before posting

Will never cease to amaze me how some of you talk about recruits...

Who are the right kids?
Kids that are excited to play for Rutgers and develop their skills under the new regime. As others have posted, Campbell has been on de-commit alert for quite some time and appeared to be looking for reasons not to go to RU.

It is not spin to say that he looks like a really good recruit, it stings a bit to have him flip to Pitt but that it isn't a big deal if we can replace him with someone of equal or greater talent. Now let's see who takes his place in Ash's first class before declaring the sky is falling. What if that player is Ffrench?
