you mean contested fadeaways in traffic are not good shots?
With the oldest team in our history can’t we install some inbounds plays or is the complicated offensive sets taking up all their time
It’s the run/go offense that Cal loves to run.
This team will have to rely on ball movement to create scoring opportunities and cal has never been known for an offense that utilizes any movement.
Duh he didn't being in someone to teach good ball movement cuts and just overall offense. The coaching staff we have can't coach.
Yeah "go make a play" isn't a viable offense. Or coaching.
This team will go 23-11 or something like that, unless we get Sharpe in here for the Spring run.

I've been preaching this for several years. When Calipari always had superior talent, his teams won running a simple motion designed to create mismatches. Against equal or superior competition, that approach doesn't work. We have ZERO plays designed to get specific players open shots. ZERO.
He was also able to mask it further because those elite level athletes played great defense, which allowed them to overcome when the offense wasn’t clicking. That great defense created lots of transition buckets, which also masked poor offensive scheme.

This is a transitional team. Those who looked at this roster and saw a Final Four run were fooling themselves. This is a 22-23 win team. A Sweet 16 run would be over-achieving.

K is serious about the job he does, Cal is not. Cal depends on his line of BS to keep his inability to coach from being exposed any worse than it already has. He's great at talking but not much else. He is paid very well for it too which is not a good look for Barnhart, especially considering Cal has a lifetime contract. Barnhart should be fired for that boneheaded decision.
Cal may be able to redeem himself; imo Barnhart cannot. That $$$$$$$$$$ lifetime contract gave away our future and gained us nothing. I went ape&&&t when they inked it and got a ban here. I’m proud of that now.
Cals recruiting sales pitch is stale and not working like it once did. Recruits aren't buying it apparently so superior talent we don't have. Cal can't make adjustments and the talent is declining while unfortunately expectations are still high among the fans. Sounds like fans are going to be in for some long-term disappointment. Maybe that's why Cal suggested early on that fans focus on player's draft status rather than win/loss records and NC's.
Not running any stuff to get shooters open. It’s that simple.

It's weird because we're used to some crappy early-season offensive sets with freshmen teams, but now Cal is showing his offense is still trash with older teams, too.
Case in point .. Grady was on fire for a stretch , then he went a loooooong stretch where he didnt get a shot period , and even rode the pine for a while . I know his D wasn't great , but three's cover up some bad D . Its 2021 not 1987 . Truth is Cal acts like he is unmotivated to change . Wonder Why ?
Cal has always put all his eggs in one basket. That basket being get the best players. And when he doesn't it shows his deficiencies

You can see Oscar will get his points on rebounds and hustle, outside of that I have no idea what we are trying to do but I do know it's ineffective.
I thought Duke adjusted better in the second half to take away shooters. The counter was Wheeler driving to the basket, which was less productive, especially with a shot blocker down low.
Wheeler became more out of control and got tunnel vision. He got sped up. He got to the point that he didn’t recognize shooters when they were open.
If Cal wants to play this way, probably need TyTy carrying a lot of the point guard load. More likely to penetrate with TyTy and get defense to leave Wheeler than vice versa. And TyTy should be more adept at finishing in traffic.
That being said, the version of TyTy we saw last night wasn’t capable of playing this way. He seemed like he was caught in between all night. Trying to make plays that weren’t there, and looking ugly in the process. At least he wasn’t turning the ball over.
Anyway...not sure we have the athleticism to play the way Cal wants. That was a tough test against strength, and we graded out in the C/D range.
We’re in a weird spot. Bunch of good but not great players. Shooters on the bench who I’m sure look at the result last night and think they should be on the floor. Ragtag guys like Mintz and Wheeler who give you a puncher’s chance, but do they know how to play winning basketball? Feels a bit like fool’s gold with them.
