Cal saw Grimes again today

I think its more of me thinking one is leaving vs him actually being ready. We continue to recruit back court players so ya gotta think someone leaves right? if we return Quade, SGA, and Baker, then bring in Quickley and say Grimes. 5 guys that talented and deep sounds hard to manage, not that Cal couldn't it just seems tough. I just see more physical gifts from SGA that would make NBA teams drool. Not that hes NBA ready, not that I want him to leave, but if its between him or Quade Id just think he'd be the one. Having said that, season hasn't even started yet, so I guess we'll have to see how things play out.

2015 we brought in Towns and Lyles with WCS, Dakari, Lee and Poythress already here...

Cal has signed one PG, who will most likely start over Green and SGA.

Grimes would seem very unlikely unless he can play off the ball and he would take Diallo's spot or IQ vice versa.

Cal is also looking at Johnson - a SF, a spot in which we will likely lose a player.

I'm not sure I see a need for anyone to leave. they may have to win their spot next season.

I bet the NBA loves guys who enter the draft because a HS senior is about to take their spot on their college team...

I agree it is going to be tough for green to leave after one year. I still wouldn’t count it out though. He would have to have a monster year.
It will be a weak draft and the thing that all these kids consider is who is coming in the next year and would that force their hand a little to leave.

Alexander might not start but that has nothing to do with whether he leaves this year or not.
He is a stud and could grow his game quickly in 9 months.

Gabriel looked very confident in the pro day.
He could have a big year and go.

Cal doesn’t want to be short handed, I get that, but I also believe he is looking at this like he will lose a minimum of 5.

You are not suggesting we have 5 in the first round, are you?

I have no argument for those that may leave without being a 1st rounder. I absolutely hate it when that happens unless it is a situation like Ulis - AA and 5'8.

Even with the weak draft, there are still 30 players as of now much higher ranked than these 2 . Won't be surprised to see an influx of foreign players as well this year.

Why does everyone assume our guard recruiting is contingent on what Quade and SGA do? If either or both have great years they go, and we're covered. If they don't, and have to come back, then Cal is going out and getting guys who might be better. Nobody likes to consider the idea of "recruiting over" a kid, but it happens -- and honestly, has to happen at a program where the expectations are to win big every year.

There's a easy scenario where Cal could get Quickley, Grimes and Johnson (along with Zion and Bol in the front court), regardless of what Quade and SGA do. Our roster could easily look like this:
PG - Quickley, Quade, SGA (could also slide to SG)
SG - Grimes, Baker
SF - Gabriel, Johnson
PF - Zion, Killeya-Jones
C - Bol, Wynard

Even under this scenario, two other players could return (Washington, Vanderbilt, or Richards; don't think Diallo or Knox are even in the discussion to return) and we would still have enough scholarships. Now whether Cal can sell this is an entirely different story, but there isn't a numbers issues at all.

If Cal made Teague OAD, Green can too.

Teague was more athletic than Green, and two inches taller with a 6'7" wingspan, which is serviceable for defending NBA guards. Teague was also the top-ranked HS point guard in his class and won a championship right before the draft. I get your point, but Quade's game stats will have to be WAY higher than Teague's to earn an equivalent draft pick. He'll need to be a better floor general and a way better shooter than Teague was.

Teague was 6'2, a very good athlete, had long arms, has an NBA brother who had been a late bloomer which made teams think his best basketball was ahead of him, won an NCAA title throwing lobs to four freaks and passing to two great shooters, and was barely drafted in the first round.

Neither SGA nor Green will be OAD. Green may play for pay, but it won't be in the NBA. There are several players better than him in the D-League right now. UK fans putting crazy expectations on our players is part of the problem here.

I'm in the crew of people that thinks Green won't be OAD, but as far as crazy expectations go, let's not place too much blame on the shoulders of the fans. 90% of the posters in this thread are in agreement that Green isn't going pro after this season, and the players themselves have made comments about shooting for OAD, or indicating that Cal believes they can do it. And even our guys that don't make it, like Briscoe and Humphries, leave early. For better and worse, UK Basketball is the program for dreamers. That's on Cal and the players more than the fans.

I disagree. Fans feed into it just as much as the players. Also, no one knows what Cal tells his players. He may tell many of them they're pros or have pro potential, but the term pro is vague. There is pro basketball players all over the world, not just the NBA.

Louisville may have the only realistic fanbase when it comes to being honest and truly evaluating their players....

I enjoy all these unlimited draft spots that are available for Kentucky's guys in the first round. Guess we're one of the few programs highlighting guys with decent measurables. I guess this will be the first draft that features a weak class that will somehow find 1st round spots for guys ranked in the 20s and 30s of their subpar class.

Making Green OAD is a hell of a project. For a prospective NBA player, the kid is well below average in every physical metric. His handles, shooting, and floor vision will need to be flawless (like Ulis) to make that jump. As a reference point, it took Ulis two years to go pro, and he didn't even get picked in the first round. And Tyler Ulis is the greatest fundamental basketball player I've ever seen at the college level.

Green has a steep climb ahead of him.
Agree...if i'm betting on one of our p'g's making an early jump, i'm picking sga

I agree Gonzo. I thought Teague made A mistake and I think Cal expected him to return. Not everyone who tries this route will succeed!

I'm just going to enjoy the year and worry about who's staying or going after I've actually watched them play a game.

I'm addressing the probability that Green's a oad, but don't discount alexander's chances at being drafted this year. Like's been pointed out earlier, he's got optimum measurables.

Where is this probability coming from? Green wanst a top 20 kid in high school and in a matter of months he will be a top 30 kid for the NBA?

Measurements are not great, nor is his shooting ability.

The only evidence is a Cal quote that was probably stated in order to get IQ to get on board.

SGA is a backup that might not crack the starting lineup and wasn't even in the top 30 of his high school class? Why didnt these measurables enable Alexander to dominate in HS?

These kids are good basketball players.

To be drafted they have to be great and/or have insane measurables but SGA's is even less than Diallo's and HD is definitely starting.

Just remember, you throw logic out the window for a lot of these kids. If they have their hearts set on leaving, they go.

Also, mock drafts do not always get it right. I don't think any mock draft had Bam in the lottery a week before the draft, yet look at where he went.

It's hard to predict either way, especially this early.

All we are doing is speculating. None of us have a good idea yet who will stay or go.

IIRC most mocks have been rather accurate concerning UK players the last 8-9 years. They missed on Bam but who else was under-rated? And no, it wasn't Bledsoe as he really blew up around January.
