Why would anyone believe anything he says? If UK sucks again this year, he'll be gone for sure. I believe he leaves after this season no matter what.

I felt that way too. Said it on here multiple times but I don't think so anymore. It is way too much money to walk away from unless someone is going to court him and essentially match his salary.

He'd be walking away from $40m...his recruiting has picked up for '24 and beyond. Only way I see him leaving now is a buyout.

He doesn't have a single commit for 2024.

I don't think that is uncommon at all. IIRC the earliest verbal we got in current class happened around June last year...Dillingham.

Most guys commit between July-Dec. Most after Peach Jam. Someone can tell me if I am wrong but I don't think I am. Reed didn't even commit until November.

What else is he supposed to say? He's not going to express any job insecurity he feels on the Dan Patrick show. If Cal leaves before his contract has ended, it will be a decision behind the scenes that is spun as a "Cal decided to move on for a new challenge" decision by UK Athletics through their media partners. If Cal fails to make a deep run next year (and I expect next year's team to be as ineffective as this year's team), a parting of way will be on the table, IMO.

Cal still riding the 2020 team. ''That could have won the national title''. Yeah Cal. The team that got into a fist fight the 2nd to last game of the year was a title team in the making. Sad.
They could have made a final four I don’t know about winning it

We lost at home to a sub .500 UT team the second to last game and had to have a last second tip-in from EJ Montgomery of all people, to beat a mediocre Florida team the last game of the year. Oh, and the team's leader, Ashton Hagans, got suspended from the team for fighting his own teammates. That team's ceiling was the S16.

Yep. He refused to pass the ball to Richards in that UT game and got into a fight with Maxey in the locker room after the game. Who could forget ''gotta keep something in the shoeboxx''.

Cal says he plans to stay his final six years on the contract

No he is leaving next year. Like he left this year last year. Or he is leaving year after next year. I mean it’s all right here posted by the bassetball super computers on rafters. The best PlayStations in all the land gather here and squeeze out wisdom.

Cal will be here long as he wants. Nobody that matters at KY is trying to force him out.

Obviously, Cal would never tell a reporter that he wasn't planning on coaching through the end of his contract. If he did, this information would be used as negative recruiting against the program.

Amen. He has the typical yankee arrogance toward the south and her people turned up to a 10, despite decades of generosity thrown his way. Please leave, Cal. Deo Vindice.

There cannot be a more hillbilly phrase than calling someone a Yankee. Lol...and my boy @BigRedMachineBigBlueNation liking/typing it is priceless. My friend, you a fan of a ball club just North of the Ohio River?

It's an accurate statement. Kentucky is in the south and people from the North call us ''hilljacks, rednecks, hillbillies" and other terms. But we say Yankee and its bad? Lol.

Calipari is a used car salesman. Take everything he says with a grain of salt. He knows he can't survive 6 more years at UK without at least a Final Four run. And that ain't happening.
I'm sure he'd LOVE to stay that long and just keep cashing in. But, by the time we get 4-5 years down the road, his contract would be a LOT easier to buy out. And if things continue on their current trajectory, that'll happen. Can't see him allowing a blow to his ego like that.

Suppose that is fair. I am from Kentucky but northern part and have had folks from southern part of state call me a Yankee which I never really understood.
