When you have a point guard like Nowell you've always got a chance. He was the difference in the UK and Mich state game imo. Without the banked in the 3 with the shot clock running down earlier in the game, the M state game doesn't go into overtime. difference maker. we didn't have one of those.

UConn is going for their 5th title in the last 25 years under 3 different coaches. But we’re the gold standard.
Oh we absolutely are not. Duke, UNC, and UConn have all been more successful the last 30+ years

Duke 5 titles
UNC 4 titles
UConn 4 titles

Cal should honestly not be ridiculed for that Kansas state game

Nowell is a guard that could lead a team to a title a la kemba. They had the best two players on the floor by far for NCAA tournament games and somehow with our only shooter mailing an Ofer until the last minute we win the game unless two prayer threes don’t splash. The bs goaltend also loomed large. But our two best scorers did nothing. Cason did a little finally. Oscar did his thing but that’s it. Now, if you want to say it’s Cals fault for the roster … okay. But no other coach in uk history has had to go through instatransfer mixed with worst entitled generation ever. Not a cal slurper and think the apathy a lot went through post Wisconsin also effected him. But… the way some on here have like basically had their life ruined by him is embarrassing. I know this, I don’t know any other available coach that’s as good as pre 2016 cal and Kentucky combined. I don’t know how to get us back to that other than valuing toughness and loyalty as much as raw athleticism. Go get a boogie and a Bledsoe. Some bulldogs. Find a few diamonds in the rough and keep them here and let us get attached by giving early minutes. Not many but enough to watch the year to year growth and then hopefully lead us in year three or four. Maybe we are seeing the early parts. I saw him try new things to get a team that really wasn’t all that good but it’s time to figure out how to not have to do that and get back to us walking on the court and knowing we’re simply better than you.

So you're saying UConn has better history than UK? Because all 4 titles happened when UK was at its peak

Squandered another golden ticket to the Final Four. Providence, K State, Michigan State, FAU and you're in the Final Four. And once again he couldn't seal the deal.
They very may well lose the next game, but KSU is for real. According to this site, KSU's coach has just out coached Cal and Izzo in consecutive games. Another reason to bash Cal (instead of starting the 100 and first thread about how bad Cal sucks). From my view, he just has good players that make big plays.

Nowell was great but the bigger difference imo was Reeves going 1-15.

It is Cal's fault. Whether it is the team members he selects in team's make or coaching it all comes down to what he did or did not do. How does a coach take shooters and make them worse as the year goes by? Cal did 2 years in a row now. I believe he and Rick Barnes went to the same coaching school. But Cal attended it longer.

If they do, more power to them. Honestly that is quite impressive and would put them up there in modern era.

Personally, I'm pulling for Xavier. They've always been a team I am rooting for if not UK. Of the powers, I'm behind the Zags. It would be ironic to see them win it when they weren't who all the pundits were talking about going into tourney. Good to see them knock off UCLA too.

So do everything that Cal is not doing now. Got it. By the way TL:DR.

We wouldn’t beat FAU or K-State or Michigan State.

Our fans are delusional.
No, our fans are pointing out the obvious. We've had the talent in each of the last two years (as well as the wide-open roads in '18 and '19), but our coach keeps crapping the bed.

The point is that there hasn't been an elite team waiting in our bracket in any of those years, not even this year. We aren't a good team because our coach isn't a good coach unless he has overwhelming talent.

Agree, we are not close to where we need to be. All sweet 16 teams would have rolled this team. That’s what happens when your $9 mil man is mailing it in.

Completely pathetic we couldn't beat those teams.
That's all right though next year is his last year if he don't do anything. 💯💯💯💯X💯💯💯💯.

Done missed out on probably five championships because of his stupid *** coaching philosophy.

Hell him and Tom Izzo wouldve beat Kansas state if they played zone. Idiots

We were the gold standard in the 40’s
Don't be so harsh. Cal has moved us comfortably to the aluminum standard.

Aluminum: Pliable, flimsy, lower in value than precious metals, and easily dented with only moderate force.

But pieces of aluminum can survive the weather over time fairly well and resist rust.

And, if polished carefully, UK's aluminum veneer sometimes shines like the golden days of old....sufficient to attract the patronage of of enough fans & boosters and the attention of enough talent to: 1) win more than we lose (short of title contention), 2) pay millions to a coach with misaligned priorities, 3) get played by scholarship players who choose not to play, and 4) make the pretense we're still an active blue blood program.

Cal and AD have us on a parallel (downward) course to Indiana...just a decade behind.

A rudder shift and course correction are in order.

GBB!

You are 100% right. I had an uneasy feeling at the beginning of the UK-KSU game (when I had previously been cautiously optimistic), when I saw Nowell smile when he heard all the "Go Big Blue" chants seconds before tip off. You have to have a "guy" like that most times to make a run in the tournament. Also, as many times as we've seen our guys limp off the floor and not return for weeks... How about him coming back and limping up and down the floor? Difference maker for sure.

Well here is to hoping that Gonzaga can beat UCONN as they are the only team still in it I want to see beat. They do not need to gain 1 more on us and enter the conversation as a new Blue Blood. Unfortunately UCONN is looking really good right now.
