Oh no, all the best players will go to schools like Bama and OSU and aTm and Oklahoma where the boosters will pay top dollar.Talk about opening Pandoras box. This could destroy college football as we know it. Not passing judgement if it's good or bad. I guess we shall see.

But I bet you voted for the barn yard genius. What do have against those college kids getting a piece of the millions of dollar pie?I wish that the liberal loonies in Sacramento who are in the process of destroying this once wonderful state would leave the rest of the country alone. This has potential implications on a nationwide basis unless the NCAA says screw you California, which I hope they will.
Football can continue without Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and San Diego State. And just wait until all those alumni go to vote next time if those schools no longer have a meaningful football program. If the NCAA hangs tough I think this will eventually be reversed in California.
(P.S. Please don't blame me for this idiocy. I just live here. And I did my part by voting against every one of those imbeciles I could who passed this terrible legislation. )
Illinois next? Hope so. Colter was right!Anyone see this on ESPN site?

As soon as money becomes the reward it changes them from amateurs to professionals.
Their motivation and values completely change. They are no longer playing simply for their school. Now they are playing for themselves and their income as well. Plus the jealousies that will inevitably occur amongst players will be detrimental to the overall team morale and cohesion.

There is absolutely nothing good to be gained by this for the team. Instead it will generate many new problems that aren't there today.

I think absent quick addition of other states, NCAA will move to quash this by disqualifying all CA teams.
Mr. Emmert, good to have you on the message boards.
Well it's obvious that you agree that millionaires and not the workers should get some of the money they are making for the schools. To bad.Colter was not right and he caused a lot of problems that we could have very well done without.
In fact, I think Colter pretty much proved why this is a terrible idea.
Good and about time!Well that was quick.
"Illinois legislator introduces bill to let college athletes be paid, saying he wants to stay competitive with California."

They had then better be prepared for lots and lots of law suits!I think absent quick addition of other states, NCAA will move to quash this by disqualifying all CA teams.

I don't think there is any Title IX impact. This will strictly be between third parties and the athletes. The Universities will have no role in the payments for image and likeness.https://www.latimes.com/california/...athlete-endorsement-deals-ncaa-california-law
Wonder about the potential impact on Title IX? Will there have to be some kind of “revenue sharing” across the spectrum of athletes and schools, including women athletes? Interested to see the NCAA response to all of this and legal challenges sure to crop up. Impacts on the California schools in the PAC12 which opposes the measure. Will Stanford, Cal, USC and UCLA have an “unfair” recruiting advantage compared to their non-Cali brethren schools in the PAC12? Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Well it's obvious that you agree that millionaires and not the workers should get some of the money they are making for the schools. To bad.
The money comes from people who will pay athletes for their image and likeness. Think of Nike paying Zion to wear their shoes, or a car dealership paying a QB to sign autographs. It is NOT schools paying their players.Exactly what is this money that you are referring to? Where does it come from and who has control of it?
This is all very vague.
That's the genius of the California Governor in this particular case - he's specifically signing it into law effective 2023, to give other states a chance to essentially catch up, so not as to negatively impact the California schools in the first place.

Wait.....they already do. Nothing will change. Good for the kids to get a slice of the financial pie.
Lawyers ruin everything for everyone.
It isn't wealth redistribution. It is wealth generation for a select few athletes. The school's revenues are not affected, so support for current sports will continue as before. But why shouldn't Zion Williamson be able to promote shoes for Nike?At the expense of 99+% of the male and female college athletes who won’t get deals and whose participation in college sports is funded almost entirely by football related revenues. How ironic is it that the Party promoting government imposed wealth redistribution from a few to the many in the private sector is pioneering just the opposite among college athletes?

I do think there are good lawyers and bad lawyers; you'll never hear me say all lawyers are bad. But I do think that many bad lawyers create, or at least contribute to, these messes which then require a lawyer to untangle.Actually it’s people who ruin everything for everybody more often than not. Lawyers just come in to sort out and clean up the messes.

If I’m Nike I plow my $$$ into Zion, not an all sports deal with Duke. Duke will follow their star’s lead, sign with Nike and accept less in the process. I think that’s a certainty. Duke is worth much less to Nike without one or more of their leading stars.
They had then better be prepared for lots and lots of law suits!
Nah, you can go ahead and say all lawyers are bad.I do think there are good lawyers and bad lawyers; you'll never hear me say all lawyers are bad. But I do think that many bad lawyers create, or at least contribute to, these messes which then require a lawyer to untangle.
