Opportunity for the league to find a dynamic leader with creative ideas as to how to keep the league relevant and in the P 5 conversations...and hopefully with strong media ties as that is where the money is.
There is no more P5 only the stubborn group think associated by people that are members of this url

She did a good job with the inception of the new league. Not easy or a given.

It’s also time for change with the new dynamics is the sport. Need a new approach in the BE.
This is my thought as well. She helped form the new league, got it through early years and league has been pretty successful under her leadership. Between the changes with the college game & the fact she has been here for a long time now and getting older, I think good time for a change in leadership.

I don't really know enough to judge whether she did a good job for the conference or not. My impression is that she was not able to maximize on and leverage the national championships and other NCAA tournament successes the conference achieved for better tv contracts and more prestige/better seedings and inclusion of Big East teams in the dance.

She worked quietly behind the scenes. I'm sure she did a lot of good. But someone better able to speak up for the Big East is needed.

She was a good steady and respected commissioner who helped navigate the "new" Big East after the break-up of the football schools. Ran the league well, worked out scheduling deals with P4 Conferences, got the original FOX deal which was big and kept the partnership with MSG. She helped foster UConn coming back and brokered the latest Media deal.

In my opinion she has been on cruise control for several years. She doesn't do enough to fight for the league against the P4 and the NCAA and she was not suited for the avalanche of changes that have effected the sport in the last 5 years. The latest media deal was barely adequate and should have provided more revenue. Men's basketball and women's basketball have had national champions, the huge NYC/NE market and I thought could be sold better.

Overall, a great career and she will always be respected but the Big East needs a leader with vision and business acumen who can develop new avenues of revenue and find its best route to flourish in the new landscape that is trying to crush it.

When the new Big East was formed we averaged 5 teams in the ncaa tournament for the first 6 years with just 10 teams (30 start units).

6 years ago we added UCONN (a good move) and since we have 26 start units in the NCAA for an average of 4.3 per year or 3.3 of the original Big East teams. UCONN has appeared in all 6 years.

We now have prime weekend slot games with as many as 3 Big East games appearing in overlapping time brackets. Not the best ratings move.

New leadership is sorely needed

I would not mind someone coming in who was a bit more vocal, charismatic, or camera-aware, but given that men's basketball is the Big East's marquee sport by a country mile, yet simultaneously exists in an industry that is actively trying to plow it under, I think she did a very good job. We've got good media visibility, our schools are paid well for its media contract considering there is no lure of football, and the conference has won what, four national championships since she took the reins. That's three more than the nation's richest and best-funded conference, and even that singular title only happened a few weeks ago. And it had to beat one of our teams to do it.

That's pretty damn good. Can it be improved upon? Perhaps. But she earned her pay.

Just based on “Commissioner stuff” hard to kill her given that we’ve maintained TV rights contracts all these years after the realignment and holding on to MSG for the Tourney has been important.

I think she’s very fortunate Jay Wright had the run he had at Nova in the 2010s, and then getting UConn back in the conference kept us relevant nationally speaking.

If UConn ends up leaving at some point, conference will be at another cross roads. I guess it all depends on whether or not they’re going to decide to jump back in the deep end as far as Football is concerned. I think they’d be attractive right now to Big 12 and maybe even ACC.

Alum problem.
No it’s a NIL problem. Many alums don’t watch pro b-ball. They used to watch college b-ball to support their school AND student athletes/future alums, but not any more. 😰 They still support the students & educational funding though.

I don't doubt for a moment that she worked hard and, at least initially, was successful in keeping the conference afloat, near the top, and moving forward in the first several years after the conference had a mass exodus. She deserves a lot of credit for all that.

However, whatever positive effect she brought to the table had long since worn off. It was time, and it had been time for a while. Grateful for her efforts, but she can't move out soon enough. The conference needs a new leader for these challenging times who can help the conference make the much needed next evolution.

This is a HUGE opportunity the Big East cannot afford to wiff on.

The Presidents and ADs of the 11 member schools sit on the board to choose the next Commissioner. Father Shanley is the Chair of the Board which means Pitino is going to have some sway.

Could you imagine if Felt or the elusive Monsignor Reilly were the Chair? lol
