From the article: "Under Jones, Tennessee became more competitive on the field, for a while, but the Vols just remained a national punchline anyway"

They still don't know anything about Rutgers.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If I'm the AD at Tenn, I'd make a run at Holgy (Dana Holgerson) , the guy has done a pretty good job, with his high tempo offense, at WVa, in the middle of nowheresville, with long , long road trips for every conference game.

Number 2 , I'd offer his wacky mentor, Mike Leach, also stuck up in the boondocks.

Number 3- Jumbo Fischer, I think he might be fed up with the Admin at FSU

As far as Schiano goes, I'd think he'd be a much better fit at Nebraska, where they like hard nosed, run first, defensive football. Although Scott Frost probably their first choice. Frost might wind up at U Fla.

Tennessee will never, ever reach they heights they did under their legend, Fulmer, who they fired after a down year.

I would welcome a JG transfer in a heartbeat.
Beside sulking on the bench, crying on the field and playing Rutgers for fools along with his HOF dad...has he done something on the field that you like? We have Lewis here, Chatman who has been a great cheerleader and shows major skills,A Sit who has such a huge upside and Wise for 19 that looks to have at all going for him and also a major cheerleader for RU...

JG made his bed and I hope the next coach there is 100% pro set.

Here's what one UT supporter says about JG:
Geronimo supports Kapperjerk and the NFL kneelers...a tree hugging Yankee libtard...won't support UT as long as he wears an Orange jersey.

That's irrelevant. The fact that we have recruits and a freshman who might be better and he'd have to sit out a year is what make me say "No thanks"

Not surprised at all. There was someone on this board who challenged me about four weeks ago stating, "there's no way Tennessee is going to fire Jones, because he recruits well and is slowly turning that program around." I responded by stating, Jones was a terrible fit; had not proven himself at Cincy to warrant this kind of step up in job; and he seemed to get the least out of his recruits as compared to many coaches out there.

In sum, this hire by Tennessee has been a disaster for them. I wonder if boy wonder QB has any regrets now?

Sure. Just like Miami would never be playing NC caliber again.

Tennessee's made some sht coaching hires, but the place recruits itself and is about as close to blue blood as you can be without quite being it. Plus an easy path to the SEC title game once they get the right guy .

Gotta admit, i thought Butch would do OK there. After they ran Fulmer out of town and have gone through 3 coaches since, it makes you wonder if it’s the job. They seem to have everything a coach wants - big $, huge stadium, recruits, ridiculously low academic standards, etc.

Why do people here hate butch jones so much ?
I don't hate Butch Jones but didn't think he deserved the job or premium salary for the time he got hired because I wasn't sure how much was him and how much was what Kelly left behind at CMU/Cincy.

A couple snippets I've seen of him in the media during his Tenn tenure seemed kinda disingenuous though. Made me like him a little less but other than that don't care about him really. Just like talking coaching prospects.

Yeah the old brain pan is slipping. I combined the two.
It happens to all of us from time to time. I wouldn't even remember if it wasn't from some years ago. I barely follow the NFL now, I couldn't even tell you all 32 coaches or GMs anymore. I'm so out of touch.

had to take a quick peak at Hoke's resume again......... you hear the expression Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic - but, how do certain guys seem to make millions with fairly mediocre resumes?
