It happens to all of us from time to time. I wouldn't even remember if it wasn't from some years ago. I barely follow the NFL now, I couldn't even tell you all 32 coaches or GMs anymore. I'm so out of touch.
Oh me too. I've slowed down my watching because I've decided to play golf on Sundays in the fall instead of putting the clubs away for the NFL a couple of years ago. I don't love the changes to the game and then this kneeling during the National Anthem thing now.

Basically I only watch Eagles games and mostly on DVR so I can skip the commercials.

Haven't watched ESPN in years.

If jg comes here he has to pay his way at least the first year. I was twenty feet from him and his family decked out in Tenn gear inside the RUTGERS bubble at the RUTGERS 7 on 7.

had to take a quick peak at Hoke's resume again......... you hear the expression Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic - but, how do certain guys seem to make millions with fairly mediocre resumes?

1981–1982 Yorktown (IN) HS (DC)
1983 Grand Valley State (DL)
1984–1986 Western Michigan (DL)
1987–1989 Toledo (LB)
1989–1994 Oregon State (DL)
1995–1996 Michigan (DE)
1997–2001 Michigan (DL)
2002 Michigan (Assoc. HC/DL)
2003–2008 Ball State
2009–2010 San Diego State
2011–2014 Michigan
2016 Oregon (DC)
2017 Tennessee (AHC/DL)
2017–present Tennessee (interim HC)

MAC WEST division "champs" once and a couple CoTY awards.......

(yeah, insert you GS comments here)......... but, Hoke has never seems that good to me.. and yet, he's always around somewhere....

He is just finishing out the season, someone has to.

I would accept a JG transfer if it was as a walk-on WR candidate. No job for daddy, however.

Couldn't tell you the reason I've stopped I guess life stuff in general. There was a time looooong ago I was dying to find something for the spring/summer and tried to get into MLB and Nascar even...didn't work. Forget about adding sports to watch now...I've dropped most now except for college football and some college basketball.

I used to be a Raiders fan so still know who their GM/coach is.....for now. But I'm so pathetic I didn't know who the hell Mcadoo was until his name started popping up here and in the local news. The local team and I had no freaking clue haha. Don't know most the current coaches or any of the up and coming names in the NFL, there was a time I would follow most everything about everyone draft magazines, preseason magazines etc.... No more....it's like a lifetime ago.

don't disagree..... To be honest, I didn't know he was on staff........ just amazed how some names seem to stick around year after year........
Well the coaching fraternity is a fairly small circle in the scheme of things so to some degree I suppose you can expect some level of recycling....although some would probably better thrown to the trash heap. [winking]

I'll reverse the theme of many posts and ask why would JG want to transfer here?

When he had a choice in HS he went in a different direction. I'd think he'd look for a name brand who throws a lot, currently starts a QB who has 1 year after this. and not a lot of big time competition in the wings. Syracuse is a school that would fit most of the bill. They throw a lot and their QB has 1 year left but may not have the name brand.

Of the names out there I think Mike Norvell Memphis HC, Bobby Petrino seem like solid choices and realistic options.

Jim Bob Cooter Lions OC/former Tenn assistant/alum could be possible and Tee Martin USC OC might be another one but one I don't know much about (Cooter)and the other I wouldn't be enthused about (Martin).

Seems like Brohm has lost his luster after his nice start so don't see his name pop for this opening as much but if Petrino did leave wouldn't be surprised about a move to Louisville should that open up.

Is Tenn as attractive to bigger names like Mullen, Kelly? It's got all the pieces you'd want as a coach but I'm not sure that it is.

Les Miles is out there too, I think he'd take it for sure but would they want him?

Kelly? No.

Mullen is already in the SEC and gets paid a lot of money, Tenn is no better than Miss State so that wouldn't make any sense.

Les Miles is old and rich is basically retired at this point. He may come out of retirement if a job as big as LSU came along which is unlikely.

I wonder if anyone will take a flyer on "show cause" Chip Kelly. I would guess it would be an SEC school as they don't care about rules.

I think Florida is a better fit for Kelly with access to Florida speed. Even a Texas A&M in the B12 if they let Sumlin go. I mean who knows what's in a guy's head but those seem like better fits for his style to me than Tenn.

Tenn is a better profile job than Miss St but he's already making a lot of money, reportedly happy there and expectations are more in check in Starkville. Florida would make more sense if he did decide to leave as opposed to Tenn. It's just a matter of ambition, if he think he's done all he can at Miss St, which he pretty much has, and if he wants more.

Miles isn't retired of his own doing, he still wants to coach according to articles last offseason but no one came calling last year. So this will be year 2. I don't think it has so much to do with the profile of the job either as long it's not way down the ladder. The longer he's on the bench though the more likely he's out of the loop for good.

FWIW, Tenn is considered a much better job than Miss State. Because Tenn has been down lately I'm not sure people appreciate what a great job that is. Over 100k fans every game, unlimited support and resources, etc. Tenn also has no state income tax and almost nonexistent property taxes so $5M in Tenn is worth a heck of a lot more than other places.

It is a better job and has everything you want but it's lost something somewhere along the way. I couldn't even express what that something is though, it just feels it.

I think that must've expired by now. He's been away from college for 4 years or so by now.
Expired late 2014, was only for 18 months.
It was his failure to monitor the activities of a staff member who improperly provided cash and lodging to recruits. The NCAA admitted Kelly didn't commit any of the violations himself
>Kelly, the NCAA says, was unaware that former scouting service owner Willie Lyles was funneling players to Oregon, giving them money on occasion and paying for things like lodging. Former Oregon assistant director of operations Josh Gibson was also given a one-year show-cause order.<

I don't think that show cause will keep any program from going after Chip

I think that's mainly a function of the performance in the last decade. Since they fired Fulmer, they've had three coaches and had four seasons where they didn't make a bowl game. This year could be the 5th season in the last 7 without a bowl.
Historically, the program has had a ton of success, though, with 6 MNC's, 830 wins, good for 9th on the all time list and 2nd in the SEC. It's a blue blood program for sure.

Tenn is no better than Miss State? Huh?

Tenn is that "job as big as LSU." History, stadium, money, fan support, recruiting, potential for easy climb to SEC champ level.

Mullen was mullin leaving MSU for fkn Rutgers, but now Tenn wouldn't be a draw? WTF are u talking about?

Supposedly, Florida is looking hard at Chip.
Tennessee has the money to get a HC like Kelly , if Florida decides that Mullen or Frost fits them better and either of those two accept.
Frost might even look at Tenn as a better option then Nebraska, if Mullen's connection to the new Florida AD from Stricklin's Miss St days gets him the job.
I don't think Mullen would leave Miss St for Tenn ( work out a deal for more money to stay), but probably would take the Florida job if money was right.
Tenn choices of the three would be Kelly and Frost , with the edge going to Chip for the way he's looked at as a HC because of his time at Oregon and the show cause that was given him looked at as no big deal and ended 3 years ago.

I agree and I'm sure the losing is part of it but I don't know it's one of those my head tells me blue blood my heart tells me something has been lost.

I'm not Tenn fan or anything either, just typical college football fan.

To me Kelly is the best of the bunch. Frost is good but why go for the "grandson" when you can get the original. Mullen is a good 2nd choice after Kelly if you can't get him.

Frost is the Tom Herman of the present but as hot as he is, still not done anything at the P5 level yet just like Herman to date. I like them both but I don't think you can compare to Kelly or Mullen who have done it on this level. If Frost leaves I still think Nebraska being home will have a greater pull than Florida but who knows for sure. B10 west not so bad to compete in, access to Cali speed and now Florida speed from his time at UCF.
