Cael wanted Kem big as well. And obviously that didn't happen.Someone said earlier, they missed big time on Spencer. And just that one crack in their dominance led to Iowa putting together all star lineups that not only competed with them but beat them and were winning championships, I say they won 2 while most would say one and scratch COVID year. Truly believe we were on the same trajectory before the fallout of Raneys, Bo and Melvin.
Yep this is 100% trueDear God MSU knows how to move a goal post.
Guys Cael wanted badly, (and recruited hard asf, including continuing to call even after they committed)
Bo Jordan
Daton Fix
Yianni
Kyle Snyder
Spencer Lee (including after NCAAs one year)
Nick Feldman
Jax
Dreshaun
Beth may listen to Tom's feedback, but she'd be a fool to let him have a say in who the next HC should be. And she ain't a fool.We agree on all of that

Jax was Okie St guy regardless. So they didn't recruit Jax? Interesting.
Never mind the fact Cael has NEVER let his current roster stop him from going after someone he wants. We've seen it time and again and it's playing out with their current roster at multiple weights right now.
But yeah, spin away, facts be damned lol. You should be in politics.
Jax was Okie St guy regardless.
He would have went there even without a coaching change.
But but but he didn't NEED any of those guys he just WANTED them therefore he didn't really lose any of them.Dear God MSU knows how to move a goal post.

Exactly, well said. Its going to take Iowa matching the progress of what DT is doing at OK St as well. And another few teams getting finalist and maybe champs. Nothing will change until PSU stops getting 7/8 finalist and 4 champs every season. At this point Cael probably hopes Brands, Ryan, Eggum, Manning all get 10 year extensions because he can pull any national kid over them in his sleep. DT is the only other recruiting force even on a level to compete at this time. This isnt hard to see. The question is who could best get into the Cael, DT arms race? Even if JB doesn't pan out you still didn't lose because it obvious that time when Tom had that type of prestige and recruiting power is long gone. Unfair or not Iowa is viewed as old and stale and you cant even win an individual title let alone a team title. MSU they are viewed that way regardless if PUS wins the title or gets 2nd to OK st or even VT in the future. So, context matters, right? Then, you surly understand that tournament strategy would probably have to include multiple teams taking out the top dogs to have a chance to win, in the short to medium term. That means get better, NOT give up, as you clearly prefer to see.
There are two kinds of buyouts.
Termination without cause by school. School pays coach.
Termination by coach for another collegiate coaching job. Coach pays school.
Both are in Brands’ contract.
If Iowa fires him before the 2028-2029 season, they owe him $500K. This was $750K prior to 6/30/26 and down from $1.2M earlier in the deal.
If Brands leaves Iowa for another job between now and 6/30/28 he owes Iowa $250K. If he leaves for another job after that date, he owes Iowa nothing. This is down from $800K earlier in the deal.
You can read the contract for yourself here.

I agree with the Pendleton part. While Jax was a heavy okiest lean. It was not set in stone. If Pendleton gets the job, I don't think he goes there. Would have been Iowa or PSU, whichever Bo didn't go to.
Didn't Jax have a close relationship with Coleman Scott back to the North Carolina days??I agree with the Pendleton part.
I did say without a coaching change, he still ends up at Okie St
I believe there are quite a few who think he ended up there because of Taylor.
Not saying Taylor didn't appeal to Jax, but he's there if John is still the head coach.
Correct.Didn't Jax have a close relationship with Coleman Scott back to the North Carolina days??
Theres no reason she shouldnt listen to his input. Hes been part of the program off and on since he was 18.Beth may listen to Tom's feedback, but she'd be a fool to let him have a say in who the next HC should be. And she ain't a fool.
She's taken on, and slayed, bigger dragons than TnT!
Yes, Jax was a big Coleman guy. Jax also loved Iowa and so did his father. We see how far that went unfortunatelyDidn't Jax have a close relationship with Coleman Scott back to the North Carolina days??
Are Terry & Morningstars contracts due before Tom's?
How do we know if Beth will renew those to even match out Tom's timeline?
Things are going to work themselves out if Beth doesn't want to put anymore gas in the tank and the car runs out gas. I odnt see Tom as someone who will just leave himself stranded if the writing is on the wall.
Also how do you explain that to a kids parents when they ask if you will still be coaching after they commit?
Although it didn't work out for Hawks, PSU lost Bassett to Hawks in a big time recruiting war much to the surprise of the wrestling community.
That's likely Bassetts thinking but many here were surprised, not sure what the thoughts were on your board. He was the #1 recruit, living in Pennsylvania and PSU looked to be going hard after him. I always wondered why PSU didn't snatch him up when he decommitted to Iowa, couldn't have been outbid by VTech.Nah, it wasn't a surprise to anyone that was paying attention. Bo stated he wanted to be a program difference maker. He would've just been one of several studs at Penn State while he would've been THE guy at Iowa like Spencer before him.
Most of them are at other schoolsI would love to know what a great roster would cost. Say 3 hammers who are multi time champs. 4 others that at top 4 and have a real shot at a championship and 3 others that are top 6. 10 other guys that could AA. Another 10 that are fringe AA. Would that get close? What would it cost?
Jax did not want to wrestle in college with Bo or what? While Jax was a heavy okiest lean. It was not set in stone. If Pendleton gets the job, I don't think he goes there. Would have been Iowa or PSU, whichever Bo didn't go to.
Jax did not want to wrestle in college with Bo or what?
Says who?? They even took multiple visits together?? Have wrestled together for how many years before. Don't believe they wouldn't want to wrestle together in college.Snope

Schools like PSU and OSU loved Bo and Melvin. It was the accompanying circus that kept it from happening. That's likely Bassetts thinking but many here were surprised, not sure what the thoughts were on your board.
