We are all just surprised you didn’t put Jordan Williams on staff.

I am just hopeful that someday we have both a head coach and a fan base who isn’t obsessed with filling the coaching staff and wrestling club with ex-Iowa wrestlers.
I agree. It's asinine to just fill positions with ex-Iowa wrestlers.

Is Cael from PSU? Is DT from Okie State? Was Gable from UofI?

That's not true at all, every single guy had success on the world stage before transferring to NLWC. They all sold out. It's part of the game, can't hate guys for doing what's best for themselves and their family. But call a spade a spade. IF NLWC didn't have the large funding they do, Snyder and Dake wouldn't be there. You think okie st club just got 100 times better because DT went there 2 years ago??? No, it was because donors started passing out buckets full of cash to get the top guys to come on over. They will do the same thing NLWC did in time, It's easier to buy talent than create it.
That is an interesting theory. Another theory could be, PSU was the best collegiate program in wrestling for 10 years, before Snyder and Dake sold out. "Huh, they must be doing something right, maybe it would make sense into looking into training there?"
OK St paid a lot to get Taylor, but wrestlers are drawn to him, his style, the star pupil of the most successful program the last 15 years "Huh, it would make sense into looking to wrestle there".
Every kid is different, but these might appeal more to top recruits than the current Iowa style. Reel them in with the potential and trajectory of the program, close with the money. How many big timers are biting on Iowa currently?

Raney's 100% took the large amount of cash; they weren't even considering okie until 2 weeks before they committed. That just doesn't randomly happen. Now one of them will sit on the bench for how many years, hope it was worth it. When Bo left, everyone knew Melvin would follow. Of course that hurt, hopefully Joey and Freddy can make up for that. With Bo in Iowa, there would more than likely be no Joey & Freddy. Missing out on Zapeda hurt as well. But here we're, on to the next class.
Was definitely worth it to DT and Okie St to keep Raneys off Iowas lineup.

Haha, so for example, if Chattanooga or Campbell offered more NIL than PSU or OK State....a top recruit would be more inclined to go to Chattanooga or Cambell correct? All about the money right? I would argue a program, development and results are what get you a seat at the table with the elite.

Hope you had a stable and productive day today!

Not thumbing my nose but it will take a million for sure. Hes gotta move his family. In NJ he doesn't so he could obviously take a little less . I would be shocked if he's coaching outside of NJ for under 1 million. I have been wrong before and will be wrong again we all have opinions.
Cost of living Iowa versus New Jersey what add up. But if these bums can't live large on $700,000 or a million dollars boohoo. And yes they are bums unless they win a national they are worth that money.

It doesn't work that way at the pinnacle. Not in sports or business. No CEO says they will take less because of relative home prices. These guys are insanely competitive. If you think the money isn't also a way of keeping score who wins then you are kidding yourself. Sure there are such things as home team discounts, but it may be that Burroughs views what he earns in NJ as him offering a home team discount and he will require a premium to move away.

The mail? What is this, 1987? Who the heck pays any attention to what they get in the mail?

At the end of the day, I think we probably agree on overall fundraising efforts. And I’m positive there’s contingent of unmotivated fans with $$$. I just chuckled that this is a thing for someone.
Mail is still a thing for us older folks.😂

Brands makes about $750k. If JB got $1.25 million I would not be shocked. I do think there could be enough to cover that through added fund raising. The additional commitment needed to RTC would be interesting and challenging. Have a deep appreciation for the Brands and also for those that support the program so this is not intended as a slight towards anybody. I believe that Iowa could get back on top with changes. Not sure how many guys have the charisma, chops, horsepower, etc that is necessary. I do think JB is in that category. If Spencer was interested he may as well.

I'd require a lot more money to live in New Jersey versus Iowa, but I'm not Burroughs who likes New Jersey. Hell, I went out of my way to live in Iowa while stationed at Offutt so I could get a resident hunting license in Iowa since they're fairly pricey otherwise. Just need Jordan Burroughs to become white tail obsessed. Being a fan of dirt track racing wouldn't hurt either lol.

Did some digging this morning....

Yeah. Rutgers has some serious cash money. Whenever Goodale decides to stop sucking and hand over the job - they're going to have the money to entice JB AND fund an RTC.

I tried saying that 🤷. Goodale contract is up this year and he has the years in the NJ system to retire and he's coming up on 55. Will he retire or keep coaching time will tell .

Iowa can't let this happen. JB needs to be the next Hawk coach.
Let JB take a job at Rutgers for couple years and get his feet wet. He will figure out everything and not at Iowa's expense (Recruiting, Coaching life/decisions/mistakes). If he spends 2/3 years at Rutgets and Iowa calls, he will take the call. No one in history would ever turn down a job at Iowa for a lower tier Big ten coaching job. Same as Schwab, Metcalf all of them, if Iowa had an opening and called, they would all listen to the offers.

You wouldn't get him back from that imo. There are a few sleeping giants that if woken up by the perfect coach would be a top 3 team each season. I would put Rutgers in that conversation due to how good NJ/NY wrestling is nowadays. I'd also list Illinois as such along with former has been in Minnesota.

The JB train would be too far down the tracks by then. Don't let it out of the station if you are Beth. It would be foolish for her to not explore or kick the tires with him given the state of the Iowa program and Brands age.

Given the state of the program??? What's brands lowest finish ever in the NCCA torny? He puts a top 5 team in the country on the mat every year. And I 100% disagree on the JB statement. If he wanted the Rutgers job, they would let go of the coach and hire him. You don't have to wait till a coach's contract runs out, especially when that coach hasn't produced anything. Rutgers doesn't get the elite kids from their area due to lack of NIL.

I'd ask if the standard for Iowa wrestling is now to have a top five finishing program? I always thought it was NCAA championships. And NCAA Championship wrestlers.

They miss out on the best kids because they attend private schools and the parents don't want them at a state school. I lived in northern NJ for over 10 years and I couldn't believe how the local people talked down on Rutgers. NJ people typically look at Rutgers as a below average university it's weird.

Athletics I would say avg to below avg is accurate, Academic wise I'm not sure where they fall

I hear the same thing around here in New England. It's not so much a state school thing than it is an "urban" state school thing. (After all, Penn State is also a state school.) Rutgers is where you go when you don't have the money to go someplace better within 100 miles. Now I'm not sure that's actually true, but some locals talk like that, and I can't believe it either.

Some other non-wrestling state schools like UConn and UMass Amherst have better reps here than Rutgers. That Rutgers is in wrestling-rich New Jersey, but can't recruit the best in-state wrestlers is fairly indicative.

Also, wrestling on the East Coast is different than in the MIdwest. Here it's slightly more of prep school sport.
In the Midwest, it's a bit more smokestack and mainstreet sport. Some parochial schools do well everyplace because they can recruit.

As someone who grew up in Northern NJ and attended one of these private schools, I can confirm. There's zero state pride at all athletically and academically for Rutgers. Have been hearing for ~2 decades across all sports how "if we could retain some of the elite in-state kids". Not happening. Not sure if its because it's a state school or what though, because the view (even from an academic lens) of Rutgers compared to schools like Penn State, Ohio State, University of Alabama etc is that it's significantly lesser than (as you mentioned).

Honestly after typing it out I feel like the sports programs have muddied it's overall brand for folks, but I know talking to some people I graduated with, a common view now is that of genuine confusion with "Why didn't we even apply to Rutgers when we were in hs?"
