He was never a good fit at LSU. Always a coach from the north kind of guy. And do you really want this guy coaching your team….

So cringe.

Short answer is recruiting. Louisiana is in the middle of the most talent rich part of the country and they are the only P5 school in their state. I think you could drop any coach into that job and they'd have a Top 10 recruiting class.

When Coach O and Les Miles can win Nattys at your school then you have a pretty high floor.
Yes, this is true. But college football today is much different from even 2019 with coach O. Phil Knight will ensure OR can get whoever they want, whether that’s a HS or Portal recruit.

This is probably a controversial opinion on my part, but I would have Oregon as the #1 job in the country as long as Phil Knight is still breathing.

Some of these schools should just pay $20 million a year on two year deals.

Miss on a QB and you get fired. Crazy expectations. AD said they were hoping for multiple SEC and National championships.

That makes me happy. He’s such a PoS.
Some say Kelly oughta be in prison for negligent manslaughter. At Notre Dame, that fine institution, Kelly ordered student manager Declan Sullivan to film a 2010 practice from the top of a scissor lift despite dangerously high winds. The lift collapsed, killing the young man. Notre Dame said they were sorry. And Kelly has kept on coaching and making tens of millions of dollars. Now he'll get $53 million NOT to coach LSU, another mighty fine institution. Meanwhile, a young man is still dead because Kelly forced him to film a football practice under dangerous conditions. But Kelly got away with it, aided and abetted by the fine folks at Notre Dame.

Here's two of the many, many stories about this senseless death: https://news.nd.edu/news/notre-dame...imary-factors-led-to-declan-sullivan-tragedy/ and https://www.businessinsider.com/notre-dame-student-death-report-2011-4

LSU does not have a president atm. As the largest public university in the state the governor is essentially the interim President until a new one is hired. Kinda weird but that’s how the law works down there.
You used "the law" and "down there" [Louisiana] in the same sentence. Interesting . . .

Lanning was on Saban's staff at Bama as a GA and on Kirby's staff at Georgia as the DC. He's got plenty of experience coaching in the South.

I'm sure Phil Knight will open up the checkbook to keep him, so who knows if he goes but LSU is 100% a better job than Oregon.
Is it? I mean, you do know LSU is in Louisiana, right? And Oregon is in Oregon? Anybody who would leave Oregon for LSU might need a bran scan.

In the sec that buyout means nothing to them money wise. They most worry about football and nothing else. Good thing they have Vandy in their conference for academics.
Worst education in the country down there in them Confederate States. No money for books, food for the poor, or health care, but $53 mil for a nut job not to coach football anymore, why, you betcha Billy Bob.

My worst fear if Pat Fitzgerald going to Wisconsin
I get not wanting Fitz in the Big Ten (especially at a rival) because he would likely be successful.

That said, Madison is probably the most liberal campus in the conference. It makes Iowa City look like an NRA convention. Pat's recent history won't pass muster with Bucky.

I think he was vindicated, certainly made a lot of money off getting fired. Too bad the perception is still there.

I’m sure Matt Campbell is at the top of their replacement list
Not sure why. Yes, he has done pretty well at ISU in the glorified mid-major conference that the Big 12 is, but I don’t see him succeeding in the P2 where the competition is much stiffer. He can stay at ISU forever, get 7-10 wins against weak teams, and be a God to ISU fans.

Not a lateral. LSU is a top five job.
Top 10, but not Top 5. Top 5 (in no particular order) would be Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Michigan, OSU. Next 5 (in no particular order) would be Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, Texas, LSU.

I would replace Georgia with Notre Dame, no disrespect to the Dawgs.

Yes and the kid literally tweeted minutes before it blew over that he might die up there. That’s why I despise Kelly.

My guess is at his age and being such an ******* his days at a big Power 5 are probably over.
