I saw something from Barstool discussing the Governor being involved to assist with the buyout?! Hope that was satire.

I saw something about that as well. I think it’s because LSU is in the process of hiring a new president so the governor stepped in to fill the shoes of the president.

I live near Baton Rouge. This is welcome news to the local fans here, but most didn’t think it would happen with the buy out. The names I hear fans wanting most often are Kiffin or Lanning. Who knows what will happen. Lots of politics and booster involvement down here.

Kiffin possibly, Lanning doesn’t seem like a Southern head coach and I think Oregon is a better job currently. Zero reason for him to go and Oregon can match LSU money.

I agree about Lanning. Seems to me it would be a lateral move for Kiffin, but don’t tell locals here that.

Lanning was on Saban's staff at Bama as a GA and on Kirby's staff at Georgia as the DC. He's got plenty of experience coaching in the South.

I'm sure Phil Knight will open up the checkbook to keep him, so who knows if he goes but LSU is 100% a better job than Oregon.

The reality is, Iowa has precious few corporations that can make material donations like many other P4 schools do. Hate to say it, but even a Nebraska with all the larger corporations in Omaha have a much higher likelihood for big sponsorships. This is where having ISU kills us too…companies like HyVee and Casey’s, for example, either have to do both schools or none to avoid angering a big chunk of their customer base.

In the sec that buyout means nothing to them money wise. They most worry about football and nothing else. Good thing they have Vandy in their conference for academics.

Short answer is recruiting. Louisiana is in the middle of the most talent rich part of the country and they are the only P5 school in their state. I think you could drop any coach into that job and they'd have a Top 10 recruiting class.

When Coach O and Les Miles can win Nattys at your school then you have a pretty high floor.
