I am sorry to hear that but you and your better half would still have fun in Germany and Austria. My company is currently establishing a subsidiary in Leipzig, former East Germany. Olde time city but close enough to Berlin. Decent food scene, whacky people and easy to get to all parts of Europe.
If you really want to see a wild and whacky scene, go during the Carnival of Cultures in May. There were 2 million people at the parade and the subway had been so overwhelmed before it started that they closed the main station and we had to walk a couple miles to the next one when it was over. But damn was it fun.

Just now:
My son: "Is this Fanta for me?"
Me: "Yes, I don't drink that crap it's full of corn syrup and that's bad for me."

Also me: "I ate 6 oz of braunschweiger today plain."

I am a complicated man.
This conversation, it happened besides my braunschweiger admission, is probably also why I will be paying for my son's therapy for years to come.

When i was a kid, I was an incredibly fussy eater. I mostly survived on peanut butter sandwiches, chocolate milk, and bananas.

But somehow, of the very few things I would eat, Braunschweiger was on the list. How the eff i would eat that disgusting mush, but not normal food, is baffling.

You still have the palate of a kid with everything other than tequila.
