Braunschweiger is a German liver sausage, also known as liverwurst, that is fully cooked, emulsified, and ready to eat, often sold in a chub or sliced form. It's made from pork or beef liver, meat, and fat, seasoned with spices like garlic, salt, and pepper, and is rich in protein, iron, and vitamins. It's enjoyed as a spread on crackers or bread, in sandwiches (often with mustard or onions), on charcuterie boards, or even mixed into other dishes like hash.

I'm not sure how one makes sausage taste bad but the Germans figured it out. Gross.

Have you had it wil onions and mustard? They cut the fattiness of it and really lets the liver taste shine.
The way I look at it is that sausage isn't good for me, so I try to have it in limited quantities. So when I do have it, I'm going for something I know tastes awesome on its own, like bratwurst, italian sausage, or breakfast sausage. I'm not going to spend the calories trying to put lipstick on a pig (pun intended). I feel the same way about QC-style pizza. All kidding aside, it's okay. But if I'm taking the caloric hit, I'm not having something that's just okay.

Love it.

I don’t eat it much anymore for health reasons but my after-school “lunch” in high school was often a triple-decker braunschweiger and cheddar cheese sandwich on white bread.

Awesome
I have always preferred it with swiss.

I wonder how it would taste with some pickled onions and blue cheese crumbles on a cracker as an appetizer for a cocktail party?

I got the shocking news that my blood pressure was low a week ago, so I am trying to correct it with some salty/fatty food.

I remember having it as a kid when my parents bought it but don't remember loving it. But then again, I'm not a big fan of German food. I visited Berlin for 5 days a few years ago and tried wiener schnitzel which is a lightly breaded and pan fried veal cutlet pounded flat and it had something that had the texture and tasted like fish skin under the batter - gross. But the weirdest food that was ubiquitous was currywurst, their most popular fast food. It's basically a cut up hot dog served with ketchup. 😅

Currywurst

Currywurst is a popular German fast food featuring grilled bratwurst (or other sausage) sliced and smothered in a spiced curry ketchup sauce, often served with fries or a bread roll. The dish, invented in Berlin in 1949, combines the savory sausage with a tangy, sweet, and spicy sauce made from ketchup, curry powder, paprika, and other seasonings.

Freaking ketchup. Even the Germans have gone soft.

i was in Germany and Austria slamming down the brewskis, eating schweinhaxe und wurst. Bring it on. Great people, hot women with questionable morals (haha), good food and culture and horribly dubbed American shows. We need to expand our repertoire from the bratwurst. And as a homage to my culture, I had the currywurst ;)

Flow chart in Germany and Austria is simple.
1. Is there good beer? Yes. then 2.
2. Are there cute waitresses who will flirt with you? Yes. then 3.
3. Let's try any and all German food, the fattier and weirder the better. If that's good or bad who cares? Is there dessert?
4. Hell yeah.
Time to test my terrible Deutsch, which pleases the ladies to no end. It's a target rich environment!

Never had it, but I would give it a try.

Have you had other offal like kidneys or bird gizzards?
I ate scrapple to appease my wife's grandfather when we visited him in Lancaster, PA. I almost threw up but knock yourself out.

Fried chicken gizzards are somewhat palatable due to the breading and frying.

I think you and I could have had a lot of fun traveling before I became unsingled.

Fried gizzards are gateway offal.

The Germans do offal right. Find a good German restaurant and order the kidneys if they are on the menu.

I am sorry to hear that but you and your better half would still have fun in Germany and Austria. My company is currently establishing a subsidiary in Leipzig, former East Germany. Olde time city but close enough to Berlin. Decent food scene, whacky people and easy to get to all parts of Europe.

Flirting with waitresses is a lot more dangerous when the No Pics is around. But that can make it more fun too.
