3 or 4 years ago, BR was losing badly at Batavia. The two adult yokels who did the Batavia broadcast began to mock BR and the CCL.

A week later, Batavia played at MC and were soundly thrashed. Batavia whined that we ran up the score. We did nothing that Batavia hadn't done the week before.

If things go as planned this year, Batavia will visit 99th and Pulaski in a couple weeks. I'm sure they'll bring their treasured "one town one team" sign.

I hope the BR team takes that sign and figuratively places it in a very dark spot on the Batavia horizon.

Rant over.

Coach Q won’t hesitate to run up the score against any opponent. This one’s justified, if he gets there.

Not really hypocrisy. Actually spot on. You obviously did not bother to spend three minutes researching about how the Batavia Coach has been outspoken about the making misrepresentations about the CCL going back ten years. Go look it up then respond.

As one of the "adult yokels" that covered that game, let's do a quick reality check:
- there was no mocking of BR or the CCL on the broadcast, just pointing out the fanboys on this page who gave Batavia absolutely no chance of winning that first round game.
- Batavia didn't so much run up the score as BR was bad that night. The running clock started in the first minute of the second half and BR kept turning the ball over. The starters were long gone by the end of that one.
- Batavia got smacked in the semis by MC, no doubt. The game was not close after the first 8 minutes. However, Jordan did go for two to go up 50 and brought the starting offense back in after the backup QB turned it over. Draw your own conclusions.
- This BR team is completely different from that '23 team and will be heavily favored over either Batavia or LWC. We'll see how it plays out.

Is it a foregone conclusion that Batavia automatically beats LWC? I think they should win. But might not be as automatic as some think.

Oh my. This is a new version I haven’t heard before. When you say draw your own conclusion do you mean to rewrite history like you did or… Batavia fans SMH

Where exactly did I rewrite history? Those two examples are factual. Time to move on. You guys are the ones rehashing 2023.

I normally would not jump into one of these threads; however, the constant bashing of Batavia Football is extremely disappointing to me. I have nothing against the CCL or the teams in it as I attended Providence Catholic in the mid to late 80s when Coach Senffner was just ramping up the program and we were able to get the first state title for him with a young Pete Bercich leading the way. The comments about Batavia Football are way off base as I had a son play of the 2017 state championship team as a junior (he played very sparingly) that beat Lake Z. and Jack Sanbourn in OT and then as a senior lost to Naz. and JJ in the semis. What you guys don't understand about Batavia football it is much more than the wins and losses (although Coach Prion is something like 152-29) it is about the bonds these young men build growing up playing together from just little guys. My son has stood up in several weddings for young men he played Bulldog football with. Coach Prion, Coach Holm, Coach Cole, etc. left a lasting impression on my son and taught him lessons is life that go way beyond football. The coaches at Batavia are true leaders of men and helped shape my son to become the man he is today. Are you correct that Batavia has not fared well against the CCL? Yes. Go back to 2017 and Batavia has not been eliminated by a public school in 10 years. 2017-State Title, 2018/2019-JJ took them out in the semis and the quarters. 2020-Covid, and then the Mt. Carmel experience for the next 4 years (2nd round, finals, semis, and finals) and yes three were blow outs, and then finally St. Rita (semis) last year. 10 years and not losing to a single non-CCL team in the playoffs. In a 9-year stretch (with only 8 real seasons due to Covid) one title, 2 other championship game appearances, along with 3 other semifinal appearances is not bad no matter what name is on the front of your jersey. What Coach Piron has built at Batavia is something special and if you saw the look in a young bulldog's eye when he saw a Michael Jansey or a Quinn Urwiller back in the day or a Michael Vander today then you might understand why it means so much to these kids. For every Donavan McNabb or Pete Bercich there are thousands of kids that take their last snap in high school and even the few that go to play college ball almost all of them never make past that so give me a program like Batavia and coaches like Coach Piron, Coach Holm, Coach Cole, etc. every day of the week and twice on Sunday's. to shape these young men and leave a lasting impression on them for the rest of their lives. Come out to game on a Friday night and you will see first-hand what this program means to the town. A couple of final points as this is getting lengthy, it is not like Batavia runs away from playing top teams as outside of being in the DuKane conference they have played East St. Louis, Lincoln Way East twice, Glenbard West (twice), and Maine West in non-conference games over the last few years to name a few. Is this year's team going beat Lincoln Way Central? We will see and if so, will they beat Brother Rice if they win their first game (maybe not) but one thing they will do is give it everything they have and play with that passion and joy all of these young men have had for Batavia football for their entire life until that final whistle blows as they do not know any other way as that is because of the culture that Coach Prion and his entire staff has set. This should be applauded and as Coach Prion rides off into the sunset this fall the entire community is going to be there to support him (and the team) and thank him and rather the ride lasts 1 game or 5 it has certainly been a great ride. Remember high school football should be about the kids, and the Batavia Bulldog Football Program could not be more about the kids and the life lessons that are instilled into them. Go Bulldogs.

Batavia is basically a private public school. They have recruited kids for the last 10+ years, they even tried to recruit my brother to play for them by offering financial incentives to my family. They frame themselves as kids who have grown up together, meanwhile half the team is poached from neighboring towns.

Don't sell us short, Homer. We do understand, but perhaps not in the way you want to hear.

We don't deny that the experience at Batavia is special, but here's the thing: The football (and other sports) experience at many high schools is special in the exact same way you described.

Here is what you need to understand: Batavia is not unique when it comes to that experience. I know you would like to think that it is unique, but I suspect you could find dozens of former players on this board who didn't attend Batavia and who formed similar bonds with their teammates.

The easiest way to get people on this board to change their tone is beat them. When you beat them, most disappear. There are only a handful of poster that comment no matter the outcome. If Batavia want to shut them up, beat them. The formula is simple.

You cannot read this and remotely believe this to be true.

Did your brother take Batavia up on the generous offer? Is your family now living high-on-the-hog along Wilson/McKee Street? Are they financially set for life?!? I did not know Batavia had such deep NIL pockets…or NIL pockets at all.
They frame themselves as kids who have grown up together, meanwhile half the team is poached from neighboring towns.
I looked at Batavia’s roster and didn’t recognize one Geneva kid. You’d think if half of a 60-70 player roster was comprised of kids from neighboring towns then odds say there has to be at least 1-2 Geneva kids playing for dear ol’Batavia. I also checked with some friends whose kids play at StCE & StCN…nope, no St. Charles kids on Batavia’s team either. Now, perhaps Dennis went deep into the youth football leagues of PawPaw, Sandwich, Big Rock, Hinckley and Plano to bump up the numbers you claim. I’ve no contacts in those towns so it must be from those communities he is drawing players to make “half his team from neighboring towns.”

You clearly don’t have deep connections if you can’t find out who has been recruited from the neighboring towns… they are actively doing it right now, not going to name anyone but they poached a underclass kid from STCE who broke every track record for them, he also plays football, this was more prevalent 5-10 years ago when I played, but it’s clearly still happening now.

Thank you for admitting that half of Batavia’s roster is not comprised of kids from neighboring towns. Even you have to admit that sounded incredibly silly.

You’re missing the entire point. It would be a misconception to assume Batavia is not similar to these private schools in terms of finances, facilities, and recruiting. They technically classify as a “public school” but have way more in common with the private schools.

Well the coaches from that school are reaching out to the athletes and parents and trying to persuade them to leave their current program for Batavia. They are promising better opportunities and in some cases a financial incentive.
