In context, yes it is. Would also depend how you lose those last 2. If offense still keeps looking better with Dana it will lead to future excitement.
That said, go 8-5 and don't worry about it.
Our team beats Iowa and you know the Relia quest bowl in Tampa would love a Nebraska Oklahoma match. I could see Nebraska play Oklahoma in the Music City Bowl also, it would fill up the stadium and infuse $$$$$$$$ to the cities. You play in Phoenix it's not going to create as much buzz. OU is much more appealing than Texas Tech and the heads of the bowls know this.
Because of all the opt-outs and especially because of the playoff, winning a bowl game is far less important than it used to be. Just getting to one and getting the extra practice and exposure is the win. I would prefer a Florida bowl game or one vs an SEC school. Playing OU would be at the top of most fans' list. I never want a repeat matchup with a team we already played. It's zero fun no matter what. It's hard to know which schools will make the playoff cutoff and how bowls will respond to getting to choose any potential matchup. If Alabama loses to Auburn and Nebraska beats Iowa, NU vs Alabama is a real possibility.
Yeah, I have no desire to play a good SEC team at this point. If it's a team that has 15 opt outs and transfer portal kids, that would be fine. We need a victory. I cringe when I hear media types crowing about Nebraska being "bumped up" to a better quality bowl. Those same guys will be leading the charge of negativity if we get beat. That's just my opinion. Ending the year with a win is much more important to the program than playing a very good opponent and getting beat.
Oh, I love Tennessee. And Kentucky for that matter. I just don't think of them as "cold." But I'm in Northern Illinois, so it's probably a matter of perspective.
This will be the first time in 8 years I'll actually watch the bowl selection show. We'll probably know where we're going prior to that but at least Nebraska will be on there.
There will likely be a fair number of opt outs for any team we play that has guys going pro. Wouldn't fault a guy like Ty Robinson if he opted out either. Bottom line is bowl games are becoming an underclassmen game unless there is a chance at the championship. Nobody really cared that Ohio St lost to Missouri last year after a bunch of guys opted out.

You're probably spot on, but playing devil's advocate, I think give me a household name opponent just for the perceived level of it. I put almost zero stock in the outcome of these non-playoff bowls for the reasons you mentioned. Transfers and sit outs have made the outcomes meaningless and I think most people see that. Therefor, yeah I think give me a big name opponent in a good location as late as possible. Alabama or Oklahoma? Yes please. We probably get boat raced by either of them, although maybe not if a bunch of their roster is out. But it will just feel good to be back walking with the big dogs again. Also good for recruiting from a perception standpoint.
I don't know, maybe I'm getting out ahead of my skis a little bit and need to know our place, but I get a lot more excited about an Alabama or OU or LSU playing in Florida or Arizona than Georgia Tech or North Carolina or Texas Tech or whatever. Just kind of a rightful place, it just feels right kind of thing.
Either way, beggars can't be choosers, so I'll be happy no matter what.

How far down the pecking order is the Rate bowl ?
Providing the Hoosiers are in the playoffs, Illinois will be in the Citrus so if true the winner of the NU/ Herky game would go to Tampa, the Music City has a higher pecking order than the Pinstripe so why would the Music pass on Michigan if both of us lose our last game?
We will play any one any where! Unless of course it’s a bowl game opportunity in 2021 - literally 4 months after you make a big splash with that quote.

Maybe Sean Callahan is completely full of ****, but he seems to think Michigan and the Pinstripe Bowl have mutual interest. He said bowl officials are treating Nebraska as a seven or eight win team as opposed to a six or seven win team. The assumption is Nebraska will be traveling with a monster fan base given the fact that they’ve been out of the bowl system for several years.
No, he isn't full of it, it's about what schools can give the communities the best boost financially and what schools can drive the best TV ratings. I share the same thoughts about which bowls Nebraska goes to and which opponent they will face, NU VS OU. jmo
Also, bowl games can pick a team lower in the pecking order as long as that lower teams' record is within one game of the team ahead of them.
If NU beats Iowa, they will be in line after Illinois in the bowl season pecking order. If they lose, they will still be treated like a 7 win team.
