There is a reason I thought Blackshear would wind up at Kentucky even before he opted out of the draft. Some, if not most of you are missing the most important element. It is the common denominator among all young men who have a singular goal. It has little to do with a particular school. It is......MONEY.

That's right, money. Great players can play anywhere and command large sums in very short order. (Leave the cheating element out of this). Some take longer to get there. Florida can get him to the NBA, no doubt. It is a good fit for him. But Kentucky is the higher road. He will, in my opinion, choose Kentucky based on the payday in a year. I've talked with a couple of former UK players about Blackshear and they think the Cats will land him and make him into a first round pick easily.

I've been handling real estate investments throughout my 40 year career in SW Florida. All, I mean all, customers have basic, simple goals and questions answered.....that is.....how much will it cost, how much will I make, and when will I get it. Likewise, kids with superior basketball skills think similarly. Kentucky gets it done as well as any other institution, and better than most all of them. Of the schools Blackshear has so far indicated an interest in, only Kentucky and Florida, so far, are in the running. If Michigan State gets a visit, then that is a tough competitor.

I did revive a Florida contact I knew years ago. He lives in the northeast section of Orlando. He thinks it will be Florida, but is on the fence thinking Kentucky could pull it off.

We should get an answer within a week and put this baby to rest. Go Cats.

I can't believe we still have these trolls on here that are actually saying that Coach Cal won't start a Blackshear and that Richards will because he will be a senior. I totally disagree and you can here Coach Cal talk during his Press Conference that we need another big man and that EJ next year will be playing Forward. That will leaves us with Richards and Sestina next season at Center and if Blackshear comes next season he would start be the starter at Center and would get his 25-30 minutes playing time that he averaged the last 2 years at VT. We are talking about a 6'10 and 250 Center that played in the ACC and had impressive games in the ACC. Just look at look at his numbers in the ACC last year and he had big games vs. Duke going 18 and 16 in the Sweet 16 close game with Duke. He went 23 and 10 in the regular season game vs. Duke, 23 and 13 vs. UVA, 29 and 10 vs. PITT, 19 and 17 vs. UNC, and in the ACC he averaged 16 and 9 and dominated in the ACC. This would be that final piece of the puzzle that Kentucky needs to push them to the FInal Four and a possible National Championship. I am sure when Coach Cal visited Blackshear earlier they discussed all of this and Blackshear knew at that time that both EJ and Richards like himself wasn't in the TOP 100 and neither in the 1st or 2nd round of the NBA draft and no invite to the NBA Combine so Blackshear knew that both Richards and EJ would probably be back next season. I am sure that Coach Cal also spoke with Blackshear about EJ going back to play Forward and that Richards would probably be the only Center competing against him for the starting Center position.

If Blackshear wants to come play Center here, it's his spot, no questions asked, IMHO.

My question is whether the kid came back to college to play as a back to the basket 5 man again?

There's just not much more he can do in the post to improve his stock and as Dave Kersey said, this is about money and improving his stock.

If he wants to become a 1st round pick, he needs to prove that he can play on the perimeter.

How does UK or UF improve his stock by putting him in the post for most of the game? He's been there, done that.

Move him to the 4 and let him try to improve his stock by proving he can play on the perimeter defensively and offensively. Maybe then the NBA will see him as a 4 and draft him.

Cal did this with Patterson in 2010 and Washington last year.

Then what does Cal tell a top 10 recruit who’s come back to be the starter at the 4? Blackshear would only be here a year! Other future recruits can see this as a bad decision!

I don't know.

Has Montgomery been promised a starting spot at the 4?

If so, then the only option for UK and Blackshear is at the 5.

If Blackshear is cool with being the post player, then it works out great.

If both want to be a stretch 4 and play exclusively on the perimeter, then it probably won't work.

I really don't see the advantage for Blackshear to come back to school just to play the same role he did at VT.

But if he is good with it, then good for him.

Maybe one solution is to run some sets with Montgomery in the post and some sets with Blackshear in the post.

Just doesn't seem beneficial for Blackshear to go to any school where he is going to be stuck in the post the entire game. Might help the team win a lot of games, but it won't improve his NBA stock.

College basketball transfer rankings for 2019-20 and 2020-21

Immediately eligible transfers

1. Kerry Blackshear Jr., 6-foot-10, 250 pounds, PF, RS Jr., Virginia Tech
Blackshear will have his pick of suitors. He was a dominant force over Virginia Tech's final 10 games, and averaged 14.9 points and 7.5 rebounds for the season. Immediately an all-conference candidate.

2. Nate Sestina, 6-9, 245 pounds, PF, RS Jr., Bucknell
Committed to Kentucky
Averaged 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds, shot 38.0 percent.

Does it help that blackshear played in rupp last year? That’s kind of uncommon benefit to recruiting I would think.

Richards will be a junior, not a senior, and Blackshear would get more than sufficient minutes at U.K.
