There is a reason I thought Blackshear would wind up at Kentucky even before he opted out of the draft. Some, if not most of you are missing the most important element. It is the common denominator among all young men who have a singular goal. It has little to do with a particular school. It is......MONEY.
That's right, money. Great players can play anywhere and command large sums in very short order. (Leave the cheating element out of this). Some take longer to get there. Florida can get him to the NBA, no doubt. It is a good fit for him. But Kentucky is the higher road. He will, in my opinion, choose Kentucky based on the payday in a year. I've talked with a couple of former UK players about Blackshear and they think the Cats will land him and make him into a first round pick easily.
I've been handling real estate investments throughout my 40 year career in SW Florida. All, I mean all, customers have basic, simple goals and questions answered.....that is.....how much will it cost, how much will I make, and when will I get it. Likewise, kids with superior basketball skills think similarly. Kentucky gets it done as well as any other institution, and better than most all of them. Of the schools Blackshear has so far indicated an interest in, only Kentucky and Florida, so far, are in the running. If Michigan State gets a visit, then that is a tough competitor.
I did revive a Florida contact I knew years ago. He lives in the northeast section of Orlando. He thinks it will be Florida, but is on the fence thinking Kentucky could pull it off.
We should get an answer within a week and put this baby to rest. Go Cats.
