Would be very surprised if many other players, from all our universities, didn't follow his lead. They all will be granted immediate release and transfer exemptions. Our RB has more conviction and balls than our state leadership....good for him.

A school that has absolutely busted it's *** to help it's black athletes and black people in general the last 50+ years in this state. The flag is NOT MSU's fault...far from it.

BS. Tate Reeves bullied the legislature as LT Guv and if you don't think he still isn't the most influential person in that branch of government than you are mistaken. If he wants it changed, the rest will fall in line.

That's not really correct. Reeves had some pretty big carrots (and sticks) to utilize as Lt. Guv. Committee assignments are big, and assigning bills to committee meant senators had to stay on his good side. A lot of them chafed at the control he exerted and claimed adamantly that they weren't going to let Delbert run roughshod over the senate the same way and a lot of them were ready for him to move on to governor where he would have less direct power over them.

Tate still has some pretty big carrots to offer, particularly with the award of some grants that the executive controls, and also with appointments. And of course he still has his warchest to help spend for or against politicians he needs to help or hurt. But he can't reach out and directly touch a senator the way he could before. And a lot of the sticks/carrots he has now will include some collateral damage if he tries to punish a particular senator. Tate is still influential, but we are a weak governor state and Tate's reasonably close call in the primary weakened him.

Yep! Just like how all those other blacks only jumped on the Civil Rights movement cause someone told them they shouldn't take it anymore! Classic bandwagon activists!*********

Case in point; Kylin came here to play years ago and it didn't seem to bother him then. Classic bandwagon activists, indeed.

Seems that if that has always been an issue OM would have had terrible signi g classes and MSU would be cleaning up in this state. Never see the stars and bars at State. Or hear Old Dixie. Strange days. I'm personally offended by Cracker Barrel. Just about as well be honky bucket

Kylin Hill is going to find out very shortly how unimportant he is in the overall scheme of things. The state flag is not going to change between now and the start of football season, no matter what he thinks. He will then either have to swallow his pride and play at MSU this season, or transfer to another school. Since the legislature adjourns in a few days it will be time for him to put up, or shut up.

So people aren't allowed to change? Kylin Hill isn't allowed to now have a different understanding of something and feel differently about it, or just feel at all, than he did years ago?

Where is this bandwagon line drawn? I imagine many people on this board are "born again Christians". If someone were to tell you at 20 years old that they had become a Christian would you then say "Well you didn't seem too concerned with that stuff 3 years ago, why do it now?". Would you call them a bandwagon Christian? I bet not.

There's a reason its called a "movement". It implies moving from one place to another. It implies change. Something that I imagine you have done very little of over the course of your life.

Good for Kylin. He's using his platform to do something he believes in, potentially at the detriment to his draft status and own personal gain. Thats a pretty grown up decision for a young man

It's really not. I guarantee you that if all of the MSU and UM football players don't show up for practice in August and issue a statement that they're not practicing or playing until the flag is changed, the flag will be changed before the season starts.

Yea, if other athletes at State and UM follow suit. If Kylin has gotten together with other athletes at UM and USM and figured out there are enough of them willing to do that, then great. We'll have a new flag.

If Kylin is ready to transfer, then that's disappointing to us as fans, but that's his prerogative.

If Kylin impulsively tweeted something without finding out whether he could rally support with enough other players that the procedural hurdles to changing the flag before next session are irrelevant, then he just made a public ultimatum where he is dependent on either luck or players from other schools jumping in to avoid having to either walk it back or transfer. Not really a big deal to walk back; can just say he's not going to leave his teammates when the university has been pushing a flag change for a long time, but it's just another example of immaturity and twitter that might hurt him going forward.

They see retiring our Jim Crow flag as a victory for the black citizens of the state.

Seriously, conservative or liberal, WHO are these people desperately clinging to a 150 year old symbol of a time when MS was not even part of the United States? Why does it mean so much to them? Change the state flag and all these people can still fly the confederate flag on their front porch 365 days a year.

Maybe he is smart enough to see an inflection point that indicates the time to act is now to fix something that has "always been that way" but that never should've been. You really think he liked growing up under a confederate battle flag? Maybe if we had just honored the original constitution through our actions we wouldn't have needed amendments to ensure that these "created equal" men were actually treated equal...

Thanks for making my point with regard to his tenure as LTG.

If anyone remotely kept up with the legislature in the last 8 years they know that nothing made its way through if it wasn’t on his agenda.0

Wouldn't the better time to get his point across been on signing day ? That way he goes to a better state and doesn't have to play in state where he "grew up under a confederate battle flag" that he hated so much.

LTG presides over the senate, dolls out committee assignments, appointment power for some statewide positions, and of course controls the sentiment of the legislature.

Feel free to go pull the news from that day but I suspect it wasn’t at an inflection point in MS History.

Gunn came out a long time ago saying he would support a new flag. Aim should be at Hosemann and yes, Tate can influence a lot of people.

Delta Council came out in favor of a new flag. Hayes Dent is on it and he's very close to the Barbours. Maybe something will come of this. Who knows.

But that's his only bargaining position. If it's that important to him, that is how he gets heard.

But what do you do when the next player refuses to play for a social issue you disagree with? Say our QB is adamantly pro life and says he refuses to play until abortion is outlawed in MS. Or some other players say they refuse to play until every police department in the state is defunded? Or some players say they refuse to play until all boys who say they identify as women are allowed to shower in the girl's locker room next to your daughter? Agreeing with an issue does not make the method of protest right. All he is doing is hurting those who by and large agree with him and have no way to change it. Nobody at MSU can change the flag. The vendors that depend on the revenue at games can change the flag.

None of those things are in the same galaxy as the confederate flag. Be real for a second, please.

The real "inflection point" for Kylin Hill should have been that point in his own personal life. If he had a problem with the state of Mississippi or it's flag(who could blame him ???) he had a very rare opportunity to take his future into his own hands. I don't think we know the whole story on this yet.

I wish there were some way to define exactly which things really ARE in that other galaxy and are off the table. I sincerely have no clue right now and it disturbs me that no one can articulate that. It’s not just the state flag, I do know that (and, yes, I want it changed, too).

I don't think we know the whole story on this yet.

Why should that point have occurred years ago? Why can't it occur now? Why is it not ok for a young man to feel confident enough in himself, with the help of the support of others around him, to speak out?

Maybe he felt this way about the flag but lacked the confidence. Maybe he'd just flat out never given it much thought cause thats the way it had always been and it didn't seem like it would ever change. It's possible there are plenty of reasons why he didn't say anything before, and it's possible there are plenty of reasons why he's saying something now.

RE: him making a statement years ago on signing day: he has the ability to have a MUCH larger impact now than then. Playing in MS and being the SECs leading rusher, and speaking out carries much more weight than another 4 star high school RB from MS leaving the State, but giving his reason for doing so as "the flag is racist".

They are different in that there is no argument over whether or not the confederate battle flag is viewed as a symbol of racism. It's virtually unanimous in that respect.

I think both sides should get together and create a list of all the reparations/corrections/demands wanted now. African Americans, give the whites your list. Both sides discuss. Agree on what they have to do.

1. Change the flag (check)
2. Take down confederate statues (check)
3. Rename the Robert E Lee building (check)
4. What else? List them here.

Then agree on a path forward to solve each demand, or not, but agree. Everybody go back to work. Play football. Promise to quit talking about it. Quit protesting/rioting. Work together. Don't bring it up again in a year, two years, 5 years, ever. Let's do this.

17 that ****. We're probably not going to have a football season anyway but this is no way to handle his problem with the flag. He is a high profile player so he could have spoke out against it w/o the threat of hurting the school that gave him a scholarship.

I'm in agreement on this. I support Kylin and i too want it changed. BUT - i have a problem with how he's handling it. When you accept a scholarship, get a free education (i know he earns it), but he was accepted what was offered to him, i just think it comes across very abrasive for him to handle it like this. He could have easily gone to the administration and had a conversation about his feelings and his plans if the state doesn't change it. Hell, get a group of players and go to the Governor's office for a meeting. The school will probably arrange your transportation and set it up. But To go to social media and blind side drop that threat, rubs me wrong. There's no need to threaten me until you've asked me to address it and then i don't. If i have a problem with my employer, spouse, employee, whatever......i go to them directly and discuss it. I don't blind side them with a threat on social media. It pisses me off. But i also understand these kids today don't do anything that's not tied to social media. But it's no excuse. It's ******** and it's bush league.

This is a good post. MSU has ZERO to do with this.

He is coming across as being an enemy of the school that has given him the keys to his future. I’m not surprised though. What's this? Like the 4th time he's threatened to transfer? If some are being honest you’d remember many of you blamed culture as to our problems under Moorhead. Well what does it say when players feel free to go rogue and make threats to quit? And no everyone, don’t take this as a pro save the flag post. I want to change the thing yesterday. I’m strictly talking about a lack of respect. Not a single soul he’s in contact with at State on a daily basis supports keeping the flag. That’s what’s so damn unfair about it.

Hill can do what he wants, obviously.
And the flag should be changed(decades ago), obviously.

Its odd that Hill is suddenly taking this stand. He grew up in MS and signed with MSU all while the current flag was the official flag of the state. Why is it now suddenly offensive or too insulting to him?

He said he is tired of it. Just odd timing to suddenly be tired of it, especially when it isnt flown on his university's campus since before he enrolled.

Oh well- he has his reasons. It will be unfortunate to see him not play, but that would be quite the statement too. I assume he will move out of the state at that point too since that would make sense.

Strange it is almost like there might be national events that might pointed out problems such as the flag and it couldn't possibly be that he is more mature and has grown as person during the last 4 years.

Such a horrible, cowardly argument. Under that logic you recognize that the flag should be replaced, presumably because you recognize the intractable fact that it represents an institution of owning people like chattel, but you choose to do nothing, fearing other, currently unidentified symbols may be removed. At least the racists are standing for something.

Are you ok with trannies competing in women sports? This is next so inch/mile.

He checked out on the MSU "Team" a long time ago. The only word in his vocabulary is "ME". You cannot let the inmates run the asylum. He's a cancer. Wish he'd moved on with the other malcontents.
