Last year only 1 of 9 made it to the Sweet 16.If we have 9 teams and none make the sweet 16 that will be embarrassing
And it was embarrassingLast year only 1 of 9 made it to the Sweet 16.
But will R pull for the conference?Which team goes the furthest?
I don’t think any make it to to the Sweet 16. Wisconsin probably has easiest road.
Most of us will root for anyone in the conference not named Penn StateBut will R pull for the conference?
I think Purdue, Rutgers, Wisconsin and Iowa make itIf Davis his healthy, Wisconsin makes it to the Sweet 16.
Purdue
Illinois
Iowa
Rutgers (Calling it!l)
Haven't looked enough yet for picking any of them past that.
I'm predicting Iowa, Purdue, Ilinois, and WiskyWhich team goes the furthest?

Zero confidence in Illinois. Clark Kellogg even suggested that Chattanooga would give them a fight. I’ve seen Chattanooga and I don’t believe that. However, Illinois is playing badly. They have become a mammoth center and a bunch of 3 point chuckers. Curbelo is a human turnover. Doubt they go far.Right now Iowa is playing the best, Illinois has a shot if their point guard gets himself under control, hard to imagine that happens for multiple games, Purdue if Ivey shows up, and Stefanovic can consistently knock down threes at a 35+ percent rate. Just don't think Wisco has enough inside.
Why any coach would want Curbelo on his team is a mystery to me. He might be the most selfish and out of control player I have ever seen. And he's not that goodZero confidence in Illinois. Obviously! Iowa hasn’t made it pass the second round in something like 20 years. Big 10 beating it’s chest about being best conference. Love those 12 v 5 matchups but I would have gone against Iowa regardless of its seed.Iowa is obviously the hottest team right now.
If there actually is a systemic reason behind Big Ten tournament underperformance (and to be clear, I don’t think there is nearly enough sample to conclude this) it’s likely the 20 game marathon schedule.Maybe it’s time we admit the B1G is overrated simply due to the quality of fan bases in combination with the style of play in-conference.
Why? Because we lost in OT and Iowa lost? All of these teams are good and capable of winning or they wouldn’t be in the tournament. The difference in styles of these mid majors is probably a shock to the system after 3 months of Big Ten conference basketball.Maybe it’s time we admit the B1G is overrated simply due to the quality of fan bases in combination with the style of play in-conference.
Didn’t Richmond played 4 games in their tournament?Iowa loss is not surprising. 4 games in 4 days is brutal.

The Big Ten is consistently rated highly by computers. They aren’t biased by the fanbases; the Big Ten is performing very well in the early season OOC period.
Because results matter and between last season and the start of this year the B1G has underperformed. Why? Because we lost in OT and Iowa lost? Sometimes the better team just loses. That doesn’t make them overrated unless you can establish a pattern. And 1 tournament plus 1/3 of the first round of a second one doesn’t come anywhere close to establishing a significant pattern.Because results matter and between last season and the start of this year the B1G has underperformed.
We can talk about what the issue is, but the losses are still losses no matter the circumstance.
The RU loss is whatever, that was a competitive game against two quality P6 teams.
The Iowa loss is bad.
Perhaps my post is a bit premature, we’ll have to see what happens.
You’re spot on, which is why I said perhaps my post is premature. I’m a bit emotional this weekSometimes the better team just loses. Who played 4 games in 4 days? Not Iowa. Not even close. They played the 12th and 13th and not again until todayIowa loss is not surprising. 4 games in 4 days is brutal.
Yup…and based too much in tradition. Old styleBig10 is slow.
Four in four it is.Who played 4 games in 4 days? Not Iowa. Not even close. They played the 12th and 13th and not again until today
Maybe we should reserve judgment until the other 7 teams play?Maybe it’s time we admit the B1G is overrated simply due to the quality of fan bases in combination with the style of play in-conference.
See my post below that where I say “perhaps my post is premature”Maybe we should reserve judgment until the other 7 teams play?
I doubt two straight years would mean too much, but maybe if literally everyone went out in the first round or something. If it’s just slightly below expectations then no way. I don’t really think it’s likely to affect selection either way. It’s not like the PAC got a bunch of benefit of the doubt after having an unexpectedly good tournament last year. You’re spot on, which is why I said perhaps my post is premature. I’m a bit emotional this week
But would two straight years be a baseline? Like where do you draw that line?
I’m concerned because perception matters and if the B1G underperforms again this year, B1G bubble teams won’t get the benefit of the doubt next year IMO
And my post was post-mature. Michigan won, beating a #6 seed, carrying the boxing gloves (err, torch) for the B1G.See my post below that where I say “perhaps my post is premature”
