Literally can only be taken one way, if actually heard the whole quote...
I did not because Sam didn’t provide the whole quote in the tweet, I wasn’t available to watch it live, the apathy imparted from 5 straight losing seasons has eroded my desire to hunt down video clips to watch online, and I don’t live in Nebraska where I might get the info by happenstance anyway.

And, ultimately, none of this matters. Win some games. Or don’t and make way for someone who will.

“I definitely don’t want to be just a figurehead.” That’s an interesting quote. Could take that in a number of directions.
Definitely had high hopes for Frost but he might not be the leader I thought he would be. Hope the team doesn't take on this mentality, it'll only divide the locker room.

figurehead coaches earn that position by their noteworthy achievements when they weren’t figurehead coaches

never heard of a head coach becoming a figurehead in order to shield the team from their actual coaching

You cared enough to ignorantly comment about it.

It's media days, all there is, is talking. Game's a month away, nothing to win before that.

I listened to Warren this evening on BTN and I couldn't take very much of it talking about his wife and kids and racial equality. How did he get this job?

Chip on their shoulder? You earn wins before game day. 1-8 teams with a chip on their shoulder are a dime a dozen.

Ann impressive collection of tough guy cliches. You and this professor could be pals.

It should be extremely easy to verify that story and ID the professor if true

If true the professor should be disciplined

let’s go Nebraska journalists - do your homework

I'm as critical of Frost's past record as anybody. But most head football coaches aren't good public speakers and hate having to go before the press. So I'll give him a pass on the public speaking. But I won't give him a pass on the team's performance this Fall.
Are you sure "most" aren't good speakers? I would bet the majority get paid very well to speak at events and do it well.

My happiness with the Nebraska football team has taken a hit.
Uh, yeah. I'm beyond beyond done with this ****. Vote of zero confidence with this guy at the helm. I just want it over with so we can get something going, at least potentially. I've seen plenty. If Im wrong and we look damn good this year, i will have some hope, but not holding my breath.

So on another board, the 'inside' word is TA wants Scott in the box this year. Opined that the source said he didn't trust him to not mess with the offense.

Who knows if true or not, but I laughed, because I could totally see TA doing something like this. In a way, it encourages Scott to move on. He's done calling the shots here if true.

This is just rumor at this point, but it's interesting none the less.

How Scott opened the media days was aptly odd as well. TA watching from the back of the room.

How about putting him up in a tower during practices?

Most will have the art of ********, but it all comes down to winning. Frost is in a lose-lose situation until the guy wins. If he talks to much and says anything rosy, we will criticize him for being that way because he hasn't won games. If he is bland and quick, we will criticize him for not painting some rosy picture. Dude just needs to win games as I don't give a **** what he says until then. I said it in another thread. I really like that this year has been super quiet with talking. We've been great at talking and off-season chatter, rah-rah stuff.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that this isn't true. Anyone who believes that definitely has learning disabilities.

I personally didn't like the way he tied his tie.
Details are important and he showed that he just doesn't care.
You should go back and look now. I was right about that and it's been taken care of. Good job by someone in the athletic dept. (prolly not Frost)

Dr. Tom was masterful at underselling his team. He knew they were good. They knew they were good. They didn't need to hear it in the press. They'd come out and slaughter their opponent and that was all the validation needed.

Frost would be wise to take this approach. Hem and haw and openly worry about the team, but then give light-hearted press conferences after the win.

Nope. Not pals with that professor or whomever your "Ann" is. But I am a promise less, deliver more guy and that is the exact opposite of what Scott Frost has produced. Nothing against Nelson- he embodies what a football player should be. And he's just a college kid. What else is he going to say? I get that.

I guess I was hoping for a sign of direction in media days. A common message. But what we got was a pouting head football coach who even has the players commenting about how sad he is.

Yeah…no. West Coast is PST. MST is Colorado, Utah and a few others. No MST teams have ever been mentioned.

I guess you have no clue how much speaking a coach does in a year. Camps, recruiting, dinners, awards, team meetings, boosters, coaching clinics, fund raising charity events, it goes on and on.

Call it what you want, coaches have to connect to a wide array of people and groups. Your "********" analogy will only go so far. Good coaches are very good communicators, great coaches are excellent communicators.

I do actually know how much speaking coaches do, so good try, but the message to the public is a lot of times a very different conversation to what hits the players. I do agree that great coaches are great communicators, but I've been to a lot of banquets with coaches and there are plenty that really suck as public speakers, but if you listen to what they are speaking about with players they are fantastic. Hell, Tom O. to me is not that great of a public speaker. Super dry, terrible pace, etc. but is one of the great communicators there was in CFB. To me it's two different things. Public speaking and communicating.

The question wasn't about message it was about public speaking. Well duh, who doesn't expect the coach to say things differently off camera or with a reporter.

In over 40 years of attending events for both HS and college stuff, funny how they don't ask the principal or the college president to speak, they ask the head coaches. They know how to communicate and have tons of stories to share.
