Our starting five are considerably better than their opponents. Our bench will decide how far we go this year.

Man... BTN keep on showing the demolition of my old dorms as a sign of progress. Sigh.

Going to give miles some credit. It is genius to keep Roby underperforming so that there isn’t any chance he goes pro and is forced to come back next year

Huh?

Our bench to this point has been a pleasant surprise.
The last couple games, the bench has scored more, with Allen scoring a bunch off the bench last game. But, they weren’t getting much offense off the bench early on. There were games where the bench would only score 5 or 7 points. We have seen guys like Akenten, Brady and Botchardt really come off the bench as the season has went on and has done some good things.

Borchart in particular has consistently given NU quality minutes off the bench. He doesn’t score much, but he rebounds and is disruptive on defense. He is able to provide valuable rest to NU’s front line guys.

The bench didn’t lose the 2
Games we lost. Also, there are a few teams in the league that have pretty good starting 5’s

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, just saying that early on, the bench didn’t offer much production, but have gotten better as the season has gone on. You say that the NU bench didn’t lose the 2 games for them. In the TT loss, they scored 3 points. While they didn’t necessarily lose the game, sometimes when the starters struggle, you need the bench to step up and they didn’t.

T-Tech was just much better than us that night, Our bench is improving and will end up being a plus when the conference starts.I feel much better what’s coming off the bench than I did when the season started..

Surprised that 10 assists is the most a single player has ever had in a game. But great job by Watson. GBR

Well, looks to me like we have pretty darn good players and I’m hoping whatever offense Timmy is trying to run will be effective in BigTen play.

Good win, but, like the BTN boys were saying, have to get more production from the bench when B1G play starts.

Another thing I will say about the bench production is that, while they are getting better, we will need more and more production as the season goes on. Getting into the Big Ten, we will see starting 5’s comparable to ours and may need the bench to bail us out.

His O, as far as I can tell, is do whatever you guys want to do, with JP taking the lead. It feels like a lot of one on one, make your own shot kind of stuff. If a couple of guys are hitting pull up J’s and JP is getting lots of free throws, we’re good. If one of those isn’t working, we’re in trouble. I’m too lazy to look this up, but where does the team rank with assists?

No Crispin today, thankfully.

I like crispin, but it was a dumb comment at the time. It’s like he’s been saving it up, because closing out games has been a challenge historically, but he dropped it at the wrong time

My take is if you’re too lazy to research and you don’t know enough to realize an offense when you see it, than don’t comment

Whoever was doing the Wisconsin-Grambling game was putting Big Ten teams into tiers.
First Tier
Michigan
Michigan State
Second Tier
Wisconsin
Ohio State
Indiana
Third Tier
"There's some other good teams in the conference. It's very deep."

Man, I think we're clearly in the second tier and closer to the first than the third. But let's play the games and find out. History and perception are not Nebraska's friends. Yet.

Maybe you and Tru can educate me. I don’t think you can, but you sound like you’re smart (discounting grammar), so telll me all about NU’s offense.

You must be a wrestler, if that is all you think the offense is doing.

(No offense to the wrestling fans, like Cloud_A_Heart).

Bench production - in terms of scoring - is not as huge of a deal as one might think. It sounds nice when the announcers say that, but, there is a reason those players start on the bench. Almost always the best scorers are the starters, as teams usually don't keep their best offensive players on the bench.

Nebraska is scoring 80.2 points per game, and the starting 5 averages 66.9 points. That is 83.4% of the total scoring average. Compare that with Kansas, who has an 81.7 scoring average. Their starting 5 average 67.7 PPG or 82.9% of the total scoring average. My guess is that this is pretty comparable to most teams.

"Bench Production" is probably better looked at in terms of defense, getting assists, and most importantly, no turnovers. Essentially, don't screw things up until the starters get their rest.

Well, we have 4 guys that are pretty decent at penetrating to the hoop (JPJ, Watson, Roby, and Allen). The sets they seem to be running are those that maximize those talents. When players can get to the hoop, that is a lot of layups / fouls, or kick outs for 3 pointers. Through the first 12 games, it has been pretty successful. I tend to compare it to Scott Frost's offensive philosophy - get guys in space and let their talent take over.
