If you assume Moos will be looking for a new men’s basketball coach, what do want in that coach? Not WHO, what criteria/qualifications would you like Moos or the search committee to look for?

Me:

1. An African-American. I’m a pasty white nearly 50 year old conservative, but it’s time for the U of N to give a chance to an African American coach in a major sport. Especially when you are trying to recruit mostly African American kids to come to a state where only 4.5% and a city where only 2.1% of the population looks like them.

2. I want a NAME! So help me god if the next hire is someone that the average fan (which sorry most Nebraskans basketball knowledge places them in the below average fan) has to say....who??? I might lose it. We need immediate name recognition. Someone that will make people around the country say WOW! If the name isn’t immediately recognizable to the recruits, it better be recognizable to their high school and AAU coaches.

3. A high level of success in the sport. Someone who is used to winning at a high level.

4. Someone who will run something unique to the conference. We can’t win here doing what a lot of others want to do. Personally I’d love to see a version of “40 minutes of Hell”, because you’d have to be a deep team. To do that you’d have to be committed to having a full roster (which we don’t). Recruits coming here would know they are going to have to play hard, and understand they WILL want and need to be subbed for. Recruits coming here will know ahead of time they will bust their *** or won’t play.

5. We are in the Big 10, and we need someone with major recruiting ties to talent rich areas. Chicago would be nice, but Indianapolis, Cleveland, Cincinnati or Milwaukee would work too. Matching that NAME with a natural Big 10 area pipeline would be a huge plus. Someone who knows the summer AAU circuit in the major cities in the Big 10 region.

6. Integrity. Enough said.

7. Someone with the voice/demeanor/presence/look needed to be successful and demand respect.

I could care less if our next coach has head coaching experience. We need a coach who can get players to come here. Period. Nebraska will likely never have a group of boosters who will partake in the dirtiness of college basketball, so we need a coach who will make recruits want to come here vs get paid to come here.

Basketball is all about who is playing for you. Ask Luke Walton, who was the next great NBA head coach at Golden State running the show while Kerr was getting healthy, and now is going to get shown the door in LA because LeBron wants him gone (possibly so maybe Lue can come there?).

Like I’ve mentioned before. We’ve tried the “up and comer” guy with some HC experience numerous times. Ho hum, whoop de do. Our history is a laughing stock. Time to try something else. What do we have to lose but more games?

Now, can we find someone who fits all 7??? I’m still looking. If Jim Jackson (Fox Sports) had got in to coaching he’d be close.

#1 has to be integrity,...some of the lists I see are ridiculous, with people wanting known, proven cheaters as our next coach.
I would rather continue where we are at, than compromise values, and integrity.

Honestly, who is Nebraska really going to get that's better than the current coach? Not saying that the admin can't get a good upgrade, just who is out there that is solid right now that would be willing to make the move to a very dismal program? And if they show up, what happens if we see the same movie again that's been playing for the last 20 years?

Maybe you should look a little closer at all my posts and figure out I'm not an Iowa fan. And since you mentioned no names for a coach, I'll assume you know little about the landscape concerning possible candidates if Miles is let go. Ditto for you, Scarletred

Don’t get your panties in a bunch..
When you play in the 1st round of the B1G tournament 5 out of 7 years it’s time to move on with the facilities we now have in place that we didn’t have a few years back..

I'm not advocating keeping Miles, just come up with some sure fire coaching names that will go to Lincoln and do a better job than Miles. I'd like to see another coach, but with Nebraska's luck, it's hard to see that miracle worker showing up. Slightly better wouldn't do the program much good, Nebraska needs the equivalent of Bob Devaney or Bill Snyder to lift the program to much greater success.

Since you mentioned panties, I have to assume you wear them all the time.

We have an AD that will make that decision, I don’t need to come up with a list that you would turn down faster then a bed sheet or critique anyway...

Be my guest throw out some names of your own..I’m sure you will figure out that they would be better then what we have now coaching us..

A few people have thrown names out, feel free to do the same, doubt I'd scoff at any of them, who knows, one of them just might be the coach that makes the difference. If Miles is fired, I would assume that Moos and others involved will make a good choice, hopefully one that will yield results much better than the past 7 years.
