It sounds like ECU’s Cliff Godwin may be wherever Bianco is not. When he declined to talk to State a few years back, he told people close to him that he would only consider LSU or OM, given his history at those schools. He is currently telling folks in Greenville he is not leaving, but I don’t see him turning down a chance to triple or quadruple his current salary for one of his preferred schools.

The fact Godwin wouldn’t really consider us, but would OM or LSU, kinda tells you the kind of personality we would end up dealing with.

He’s an ECU alum, but he’s only making $400k there. Ole Miss or LSU would more than double if that he accepted a job at either university. He may really love his alma mater though, so who knows.

He was very emotional after they lost the Super. He looked like a guy who was fully invested. We will see how much ECU is willing to pay to keep him.

There has been alot of talk of Bianco and LSU, but the longer it plays out the less likely it seems. He's reportedly interviewed for the position. If he's their guy, i would expect movement soon.

1. The longer this goes I would say Vitello or someone still connected to the CWS, if it's Bianco I would expect it to happen soon (as in yesterday or today).
2. N/A
3. Yes, offer and agreement was in place to go to LSU but something came up in their background on him.

Agreed. I don’t think he’s going to be as easy to pull as most do. He seems to be very driven to get ECU to Omaha.

Season just ended Sunday night, late (well, in about the 3rd inning actually, but still..). He’s got to have player exit interviews. Got to meet with Keith Carter. And got to iron out contract details (if he’s considering it, which I think he is). It’s only Wednesday.

LSU knows Bianco. I highly doubt he goes down there for an interview. If he goes to BR it’s because he’s being introduced as the new HC. Multiple LSU and OM sources have reported it’s his job to turn down. And I’ll be shocked if he turns it down. 1) LSU is a better job 2) he’d actually upgrade jobs AND have more job security, which is unheard of, and 3) it’s his alma mater. Those 3 things make it seem like a formality, if the reports of it being his job to turn down are true.

1. Bianco
2. McDonnell (although I’m trying to not let myself get too excited there.. but the same smoke I told y’all 2 weeks ago was very real, regarding Bianco and LSU, is hovering around OM and McDonnell.. we may have tripped and stumbled our way into the perfect time to pursue him)
3. Yes, for sure.

I have watched a guy get up to accept an award from a local organization and just bawl and cry about how important his wife was to him and his success and how much she means to him and how he does it all for her, yet on annual convention trips, he basically manages to find a trashy girl each year to essentially move into his hotel room for the week. All that to say, I wouldn't take being emotional after a loss to mean that he's committed for life.

I'm sure Godwin really does care about ECU. I just doubt he "turn down an extra half million a year cares" about ECU

I just have a hard time believing that McDonnell would turn down Cohen (a friend), push for Lemonis (his best friend) to get the job, and then turn around and accept the job at the instate rival. Throw in the fact that olemiss has been trying to run Bianco (who I assume has a good relationship with Dan) off for 5 years. Maybe I am jaded and none of this matters to any of them and they are all grabbing the best job and most money they can. Who knows.

You may be right, dude. I wouldn’t think he’d be a realistic option either, to be honest. But I know multiple people, some of which do not particularly like each other, are reporting it’s a very real thing. And that Bianco taking that job, and saving us the buyout, puts us in a situation to make a big offer to him. And that McDonnell is in a different place right now, than he was when MSU and others reached out. Some things have changed.

For all I know we promote Carl Lafferty. But they asked for peoples opinion, so I provided mine. I have heard from multiple people they’ll be shocked if it goes past the top 2 options. But, then again, we were hiring Jon Gruden, too. So we’ll see, dude. I certainly don’t know.

Johnson. Quit telling people my business. Everyone knows it's not cheating if you're in a different time zone.

I think that’s all very fair. And I also think the Lemonis factor may be what ultimately prevents him from coming. Which would be pretty ironic for y’all to kick us in the *** one more time, in baseball.

But, from everything I’ve read and heard, he’s lost the AD that he loved, he doesn’t see eye to eye with the new one, and is pissed off over the way COVID protocols were handled. And that’s not only coming from Ole Miss people. If it was, I’d mostly disregard it. Bianco accepting the LSU job versus being fired would open us up financially to make a strong offer, and we’ve all heard for years that McDonnell was very interested in the OM job, but wouldn’t take it if Bianco was fired. In this scenario, Bianco would be leaving on his own. Like I said in my original post, it’s possible we’ve stumbled our way into the situation.

If you made me bet right now, assuming Bianco goes to LSU, I’d say it’s McDonnell 25%, Godwin 20%. and the field 55%. So, obviously I’m not overly confident, but he’s definitely going to be the primary candidate and be made to tell OM no. Which he may very well do.

I was on faculty at ECU for a few years. I have a friend that is fairly high up in their athletic department.

I have no idea the level of discussion we had with Godwin, but when news broke we reached out to Godwin at some level, I asked my friend about it. He said the impression within their department was Godwin was not really interested in us and broke off the talks with us, just like he did with the Alabama before that. They thought it was for a raise. Like others have said, he loves ECU and may not leave for anywhere else. But someone inside ECU’s AD flat out told me they were never really worried about losing him to us, but they would worry if Vandy, LSU or Ole Miss had a job opening.

(These are complete guesses on my part.)

Well the fan who claims he is not a fan stated today that LSU is a parallel job to OM and that if Bianco interviews with LSU and is retained by OM that OM is admitting that they are an inferior program.

Well no **** - idiot. LSU is the best job in the nation so technically every other job is inferior. The funny part of all of this is that when Bianco stays at OM, not a fan will get pissed at the people calling him out after he pumped them up as a top 5 program when they are MAYBE top 15...

Just further proof of how over-inflated the self image of ole miss is. Those folks really believe that these coaches are all just sitting around hoping they will get a call lol. McDonnell ain’t leaving Louisville to go to Oxford. I even saw where some of them were saying Brian O’Connor from Virginia. Seems that the “beauty of Oxford” is the draw-that and their “great stadium and atmosphere” haha. I’ll be shocked if Bianco isn’t still there next year. It could happen-but I’ll be shocked.

Timing is everything. Not sure how he feels today, but about a month ago, he appeared to be ripe for the pickin’.

Coaches aren’t fans. They could not care any less about a rivalry and the best friend thing is pretty much a non-factor. McDonnell isn’t particularly happy at UofL but he isn’t leaving for a lateral paycheck. But everybody has a price.

So why isn't he getting more traction for the LSU job? He's a better candidate than the coaches that are being mentioned. If he wants to leave Louisville, that's the prime opportunity for him.
