I just have a hard time believing that McDonnell would turn down Cohen (a friend), push for Lemonis (his best friend) to get the job, and then turn around and accept the job at the instate rival. Throw in the fact that olemiss has been trying to run Bianco (who I assume has a good relationship with Dan) off for 5 years. Maybe I am jaded and none of this matters to any of them and they are all grabbing the best job and most money they can. Who knows.
Stranger things have happened, but it would be very odd for McDonnell to take the OM job opposite Lemonis after these quotes. If McDonnell/Lemonis don’t like playing each other as the Indiana/Louisville coaches, how would that compare to being the MSU/OM coaches?
Maybe McDonnell wants to move closer to his friend?

Despite the Cardinals’ recent string of success, Lemonis finished his time in Bloomington with a 3-1 record against his former teammate.
“Just not a good feeling,” McDonnell said of having to play his pal. “But we had to do it. We’re less than two hours apart, we’re Power Five programs, and it was something we had to do. But it wasn’t something I was crazy about.”
