I just have a hard time believing that McDonnell would turn down Cohen (a friend), push for Lemonis (his best friend) to get the job, and then turn around and accept the job at the instate rival. Throw in the fact that olemiss has been trying to run Bianco (who I assume has a good relationship with Dan) off for 5 years. Maybe I am jaded and none of this matters to any of them and they are all grabbing the best job and most money they can. Who knows.

Stranger things have happened, but it would be very odd for McDonnell to take the OM job opposite Lemonis after these quotes. If McDonnell/Lemonis don’t like playing each other as the Indiana/Louisville coaches, how would that compare to being the MSU/OM coaches?

Maybe McDonnell wants to move closer to his friend?

“We’re not scheduling each other, I can tell you that,” Lemonis said. “We always say if we’re going to play each other, we’d want it to be in Omaha. We were just hoping we were in different brackets and in the last games. One of us will go home, but one of us will get to keep playing.”

Despite the Cardinals’ recent string of success, Lemonis finished his time in Bloomington with a 3-1 record against his former teammate.

“Just not a good feeling,” McDonnell said of having to play his pal. “But we had to do it. We’re less than two hours apart, we’re Power Five programs, and it was something we had to do. But it wasn’t something I was crazy about.”

So why isn't he getting more traction for the LSU job? He's a better candidate than the coaches that are being mentioned. If he wants to leave Louisville, that's the prime opportunity for him.

LSU folks say that he turned it down due to all the noise around the athletic dept. right now. The Title IX mess; Will Wade on federal wiretap; the alleged cover up of sexual assaults in the football program. McDonnell, much like Bianco and Lemonis has a pristine reputation.

Ironically, I think him turning them down might be what prevents LSU from hiring Bianco. They don’t want to hire Bianco just for Ole Miss to stumble it’s way into hiring their #2 guy (behind Corbin).

********. That turmoil will pass. But LSU will still be the premier baseball program in the country for a long time.

Not arguing that. Just saying that’s what multiple LSU people have said is that McDonnell wasn’t interested in the job, for those reasons.

Just further proof of how over-inflated the self image of ole miss is. Those folks really believe that these coaches are all just sitting around hoping they will get a call lol. McDonnell ain’t leaving Louisville to go to Oxford. I even saw where some of them were saying Brian O’Connor from Virginia. Seems that the “beauty of Oxford” is the draw-that and their “great stadium and atmosphere” haha. I’ll be shocked if Bianco isn’t still there next year. It could happen-but I’ll be shocked.

They absolutely believe that the town of Oxford is the most desired destination for any coach. They post that for every coach search.

He wasn't seriously mentioned in A&M's search either (that I remember).
