There’s a difference between saying that in a team huddle and to the media. Anyone who has played sports for a decent coach has been cussed out.I mean, Cal called Jones a selfish mother Fu**er on national television, said he didn't know who Vanderbilt was, and has made odd comments about Allen. Plus, had the issues last year with Fletcher and the year before with Hagans. Not sure this is all that bad.
did he say that to the media?I mean, Cal called Jones a selfish mother Fu**er on national television, said he didn't know who Vanderbilt was, and has made odd comments about Allen. Plus, had the issues last year with Fletcher and the year before with Hagans. Not sure this is all that bad.
I've watched sports a long time. I don't recall ever seeing a coach scream that at a player as he walked by the bench. I'm sure in private or practice it happens often, but not usually like that in a game. There’s a difference between saying that in a team huddle and to the media. Yea, the Allen, Vanderbilt, Hagans and Fletcher comments he did. There were several things in the news about throwing Fletcher under the bus last year after his comments.did he say that to the media?
Saint Cal would never do anything like that, you must be mistakenI mean, Cal called Jones a selfish mother Fu**er on national television, said he didn't know who Vanderbilt was, and has made odd comments about Allen. Plus, had the issues last year with Fletcher and the year before with Hagans. Not sure this is all that bad.
Dude you’re acting like Barnes shot him. I applaud Barnes for being honest. Fulkerson has been there 6 years. Its not like he’s a freshman.Holy cow that's awful. I don't like fulkerson but it's for all the right reasons. He's tough, makes hustle plays, and seems to always be making a positive difference for his team.
I hope a UK coach never says anything like this publicly. It's awful
Bill Parcells was famous for blasting his players and coaches in public. He won 2 Super Bowls and his players loved him.I've watched sports a long time. I don't recall ever seeing a coach scream that at a player as he walked by the bench. I'm sure in private or practice it happens often, but not usually like that in a game.
That’s also the pro level where I’m completely fine with it. Unless you’re Urban Meyer and you’re doing it to prop your own stupid decisions up. Those are full grown men who’s entire job is to play a game.Bill Parcells was famous for blasting his players and coaches in public. He won 2 Super Bowls and his players loved him.
I don't see it as Cal hate, people just stating facts. Why does every thread turn into Cal hate?

Doing it at the collegiate level and below is kinda crappy. I don’t like it when Cal does it either. They’re still students learning the game
Is it the most awful thing? No. But it’s still kinda crappy thing to do to say an 18 year old kid. I know Fulky is like 50 by now but still; say something like “His play wasn’t great today and that’s something we will work on”. Player still gets called out and you don’t crap all over him at the same time.
At the pro level? Sure. Call him everything in he book.
While I agree that Barnes could have chosen his words a little more tactfully, two things to note:
#1. I am a UK grad and fully understand the value of education. But after the precedent set by the UNC case, big-time college athletic programs would be stupid to make their athletes attend class and do schoolwork anymore. I mean why should they? All they have to do is make sure a certain number of non-athlete “students” don’t have to go to class either, and they are home free. So you can’t really use the student argument anymore. UNC burned that to the ground.
#2. you can’t really use the “kids” argument either with NIL now. You don’t think Fulky is making money? Vawl fans love his goofy ***, and I’m sure he has parlayed that into a few lucrative deals. So for all intents and purposes he is now a professional, and any criticism is fair game.
Yep. It’s a slightly different situation here as sports take place in public, but a boss does have to be careful calling somebody out like that. You run off a good solid contributor and it can come back an haunt you (Huggins).I guess the part Barnes says for him to step aside is the worse part.that can go 2 ways.Fulkerson gets pissed and says to hell with it or he gets pissed and becomes Supernan.
Should have been handled in private but that's just my opinion.Either way to let it air out to the media only creates turmoil
18 year old kids get yelled at everyday in the military. (Including me back in the day and currently my son). It didn’t hurt us and it hasn’t hurt any other 18 year old that has gone thru basic training. That’s also the pro level where I’m completely fine with it. Unless you’re Urban Meyer and you’re doing it to prop your own stupid decisions up. Those are full grown men who’s entire job is to play a game.

That’s a false equivalency if I’ve ever heard one. Let me know when basketball becomes life or death. And again, your drill sergeant didn’t call the press to say what a sack of crap you were in block that morning either.18 year old kids get yelled at everyday in the military. (Including me back in the day and currently my son). It didn’t hurt us and it hasn’t hurt any other 18 year old that has gone thru basic training.
I have no issues with it. I thought Barnes was being honest and was respectful in his words. I am just bringing light to the hypocrisy of our fans when Cal has said and done worse. And I don't have an issue with what Cal did either. As long as you aren't abusing them, I see no issue being blunt and honest.Bill Parcells was famous for blasting his players and coaches in public. He won 2 Super Bowls and his players loved him.
OverstatedI mean, Cal called Jones a selfish mother Fu**er on national television, said he didn't know who Vanderbilt was, and has made odd comments about Allen. Plus, had the issues last year with Fletcher and the year before with Hagans. Not sure this is all that bad.
Maybe because people like to express their feelings. Why does every thread turn into Cal hate?
Harsh or no?
