Has anyone looked into staying at cheaper hotel / resort and going to a game or two? Considering it. Price is crazy., but not even sure that’s realistic.
It'll be the airfare that kills a lot of people right now. And, cancellations are insane. I'm headed back to Germany July 5 for work and prices are now $4000 round trip as compared to back in January when they were only $1400.

This alone (mask requirements) will keep 80% of UK fans from going, even if suddenly the trip was only $1500.

I think on the resorts you're fine without one though. It seems once you leave the premises, that's when they impose the restrictions. Also, I believe most airlines have removed mask mandates. We had 4 flights to the Bahamas and didn't need a mask for any. But, that may change if the numbers are spiking up again.

Makes sense for them though. If they do have a Covid outbreak and stuff shuts down. The island is toast. I mean. Tourism IS their economy. So, if their tourism gets shut down. Bye bye Bahamas.

Yeah, I was indifferent to it. If a business wants me to wear one, I'm fine with it. I guess it was just surprising to see an island, that really is kind of "third world" once you leave the resorts, care that much about COVID. But you're right, tourism is their livelihood.

I didn't see many hotels, at least ones you'd want to stay at. One thing you might be able to do, is stay at another resort nearby and just take a cab to the games (assuming you can go to the games if you're not staying there, right?).

Honestly, look into Sandals. They have an all inclusive resort that's maybe a 5-10 minute cab ride to Baha Mar. For us, and including airfare, it was 6 nights for about $6,500.. Now keep in mind, that was all inclusive.. which means I probably ate/drank about $300 worth a day. We also went in the end of April, which I would imagine has some of the higher rates.

I despise Cal as much as anyone but it is a little crazy that every thread turns into a back and forth about Cal.

I’m just glad we get to see the team play in August.

I mean.. that IS what about a dozen posters have turned this place into. We're now blaming Cal MORE for Sharpe, than Sharpe himself, which still blows my mind.. We're mad at him for trying to put together a Bahamas trip (which is really for the players more than anything).. no matter what he says or does, those posters will find fault.

There's a good amount to criticize Cal for lately.. but when some on here literally try and blame him for everything.. well, you get threads like this. Is a $10,000 trip to watch summer basketball the best idea? No, it's not. But it's not like this is ALL on Cal, nor is it really something that people should go nuclear over.

$10,000 to watch four meaningless games played in a hotel ballroom lol. And Cal wonders why the basketball fanbase is losing interest.
Is this supposed to be satire? Do you really think Calipari is setting ticket prices?

Booked my trip for me and my family and a couple extra tickets for my in laws so they can watch the kids and we can have a couple nights for ourselves. Excited for it! I’ll let you guys in on the inside gossip if you’re nice enough 😉
Hell, I’ll watch your kids for a ticket. Lol.

I was gonna write something similar haha..

A Bahamas trip is always worth it, that's your vacation.. plus getting to watch Kentucky curb stomp some lowly teams, and all the extra fan fare, is just bonus.

The Bahamas team could be decent. It the rest shouldn’t be a challenge.

I just can't see spending a fortune on games that don't count.I would rather save it for an NCAA tourney game UK is in.

If I’m spending 7k on a vacation it’s really really hard for me to justify a beach vacation. I mean you could go to London and see UK play in a cooler place and bigger game at a cheaper price
London in December? Yuck. Cold and wet vs warm and beautiful.

London is an awesome city. But not in winter.

Im weird but I'd rather go to London in December than the Bahamas in Summer. I can do the beach vacation thing for about 2 days and then I want to start exploring. Planning on going to London for UK game, catching a soccer game, then taking train to Paris for a few days if it all works out. Still cheaper than Bahamas (maybe)

Look don’t get me wrong. I’m a quarter English. London is awesome. But cold and wet really makes it hard to get out and explore. And ten World Cup is also at the same time in London I believe. It’ll be freaking packed.

A few years ago my brother got married in Naples Italy. The wife and I spent 17 days in Europe and we went from London to Paris to Switzerland and then several places in Italy working our way down to Naples.

All of that was LESS money than what this Bahamas trip would cost lol.

I can't imagine going to the Bahamas and then spending my time watching basketball games. And that's even if they were MEANINGFUL games - never mind scrimmages that don't count for anything.

It I'm going to spend money and time going to the Bahamas, I'd spend my time doing things like going to the beach and other things I can only do there as opposed to something I can easily do here like watch basketball.

I kind of agree. I'm not a huge beach guy. It gets a little boring for me after a few days. I enjoy more culture.

But there are plenty of people put there who would rather be on said beach, with less people, than a jam packed urban environment.

Yep. Did something very similar. Stayed in an AirBnB in Sorrento literally on water overlooking Mount Vesuvius in 2019 for a cheaper rate than a condo in Destin, Florida. Love Italy.

Yea, my wife is one of those who likes beach vacations. And I drive her crazy. My ideal vacation is pretty much urban hiking from 7 AM to 10 PM. When I go to NYC, my wife calls it a death march. Pretty sure we logged something like 18 miles walked in a single day last year.

I think most would absolutely agree with you there. A Bahamas trip would be great if you can do it. But if you're choosing on the basis of basketball as a fan, then there's no comparison, right?

For some reason due to this thread I called my wife and convinced her to go to Portugal in September.

But now Im wondering if it wouldn't be better to go to Madrid / Barcelona. Need advice.

Of course he isn’t, but it’s just another negative to add to the growing list. This is price gouging, pure and simple. Ryan Lemond was ranting about it this morning and he’s 100% correct.

lol, "all that's gone on" like we're U of L or something. Poor baby.

It's definitely too expensive for the average fan, but they won't have any trouble selling spots.
What’s happened at UK with regards to the basketball program is a travesty. Simply put. There have been some exciting times but those are greatly overshadowed by the negative things and the absolute tumultuous coaching. If I wanted to go to the Bahamas I would go but thanks to the way CCC is running the show, I don’t have to think too hard about whether or not to make the trek. Cal stripped that away.
Oh yeah, LLLOOOLLL !!!!!!

Again, remember that 90% of the cost for this is you and your family getting a vacation in the Bahamas for a week.

So if you weren't already going on these trips, you weren't going to go now. You either can afford a $6-10,000 trip, or you can't. Cal isn't the reason you can't go lol.

Never been to Portugal but Spain was incredible. Loved Barcelona, didn't go to Madrid but did go to Sevilla, Cordoba, and Malaga and loved all of it. Sad I wasn't able to get to Valencia or Granada. If you're in southern Spain, it's easy to hop a ferry over to Tangier as well. From what I'd heard Madrid is more of a cosmopolitan "big city" with lots of the stuff you'd find in any big city. Best night life in Spain.

The fanbase started losing interest in 2016-ish due to the damned absurd 1-and-done and fans not getting to have the connections we used to have with past teams (excluding BCG era). Then the cost of everything to see a game - Rupp or otherwise, coupled with cheap 4K and 1080 HD flat screens. Then a failure to a weak KSU team when the bracket had busted wide open for us for the first time in forever. Then a COVID pandemic cancelled March Madness. Then a 9-16 year followed by an ousting to a 15 seed. Then the Sharpe debacle. And then you have this weirdo fringe group that lost interest the moment Calipari showed support for BLM, his players, and "kneeling" for a cause.

So your claim that fans have lost interest in UK ball due to absurd pricing for a Bahamas vacation to see UK basketball after a pandemic nearly decimated the Caribbean tourism industry holds zero basis in facts.

Also, where did you ever read or hear Calipari explicitly say "I'm not sure why fans are losing interest in UK basketball??" I don't know that I've ever heard him claim that publicly (because I'm pretty sure he's never said anything like that).
