This is why I don’t buy the let’s keep Cal because there’s no one else to replace him. Nobody thought Davis would succeed after Roy left, but he’s obviously doing a great job so far!
That's not true. Make it up as ya go!!!! Yea we've had a few leave as 2nd Rd picks but not very many. And then they leave ready or not...yeah they getting sound advice.
You can declare and come back twice. Then he couldn't declare ND come back if I understand the rule right! My point was there's nothing wrong with testing the waters and see what you need to work on. Bacot did that
He was also left several crucial players. He may be great but Love is what took them to the final 4.. not HubertThis is why I don’t buy the let’s keep Cal because there’s no one else to replace him. Nobody thought Davis would succeed after Roy left, but he’s obviously doing a great job so far!
Under current federal laws Oscar will be deported if he tries to touch any NIL money. Probably not best to compare his situation to others.Bacot isn't even on every draft board, why wouldn't he come back? Some dude who might go late 2nd at the best wants to come back with NIL? Why are people giving a diatribe on Cal for this? Oscar is better and most likely coming back. Calm down.
It's not a bad thingJacob Toppin on draft boards? We're told here every time someone declares "you'd be dumb to not declare and get feedback."
I didnt say they all did.Where did I say thatThat's not true. Make it up as ya go!!!! Yea we've had a few leave as 2nd Rd picks but not very many.
Richards came back
IQ came back
Ej came back
Several crucial players who got blown out in the first round of the 2021 NCAA tournament. He was also left several crucial players.
No Ed, he has looked at UK and decided that it appears to be a loser mentality.Maybe he already did
My point wasn’t that it’s a bad or good thing. Just to respond to the guy saying “well Lordy why would he declare, he’s not even on draft boards!” We have guys that do it all the time. It's not a bad thing
The mental gymnastics is constant on here. Whatever thing helps advance their agenda as an apologists is what matters.Jacob Toppin on draft boards? We're told here every time someone declares "you'd be dumb to not declare and get feedback."
Per Rothstein. Wonder why he isn't at least testing the waters like every one of our players do.
If Oscar and Bacot played back in the 90s, I'm sure they would be 1st round picks.I love how everyone thinks your center has to shoot 3s. In a league where Ben Wallace thrived and lasted forever, there will always be room for a guy who can grab rebounds.
Where are Brooks and Toppin projected?Bacot is projected to go late second round or not at all. Why would he leave UNC with NIL and a free diploma without going to class?
What does that have anything to do with Bacot or the multiple players most posters are questioning declaring?Would you have tried to convince Dajuan Wagner to return to Memphis?
Per Rothstein. Wonder why he isn't at least testing the waters like every one of our players do.
He did drop to 7 but I don't think he was going No. 1 with Kyrie Irving in the draft. He does probably go No. 2 and 4 at worse. They also had the NBA lockout that year which is what won us a title and kept other guys. What does that have anything to do with Bacot or the multiple players most posters are questioning declaring?
wagner went 6th overall
brooks and toppin would be second round in the Italian draft and bacot may be a second rounder in nba
If you want to talk about a player comparable to Wagner look at Harrison Barnes from UNC, sure fire first overall pick in the draft and Roy cried to get him back in school, that would be comparable.
2016 i believeIf you are they just changed it in the last couple years as it was just once.
I’m definitely not. I do have enough of a cursory understanding and awareness to know the way we do things is an outlier. Every program has attrition. But it is a matter of degree and the turnover our program goes through is absurd. Can you say you are as familiar with any other program as you are UK?
CBA is twice, but I think NCAA rules now say multiple times.I believe technically it's twice, but the 2nd time is it.
So if he "tested the waters" this year again, he wouldn't be eligible to declare next year when he does it for real.
At least that's how I remembered it, could be wrong though.
EDIT: Apparently I may be incorrect based on some other posts.

NIL or no NIL, Chapel Hill does not lose players very early to the pros. You can find one here or there that stayed one year for them (Coby White, Marvin Williams) but the norm is they keep their best players multiple years. Look at their 2016 and 2017 squads, was there anyone left in College who came in with Justin Jackson's class (who was really good) and still in school when Jackson was a junior? He had to have been the highest ranked remaining player from his class playing in College that 2016-2017 season. Go back to 2009 - Lawson, Ellington, Green, Hansbrough, you'll never see that kind of talent stay in school as long as they did ever again. Don't know how they do it.
Someone mentioned a list of schools who seem to keep their players longer and one mentioned was Duke. Huh? they have a new team every year practically. How many good/great upperclassmen have they had lately? Wendell Moore a (rare) junior had a really good College season. Not great, but good. I've not heard anything but I'm sure he won't be back and like I said he was good, not great. Before that.....Greyson Allen in 2018? Quinn Cook in 2015 for sure. I guess Amile Jefferson would qualify, (but his career avg. was 7.2 ppg, shrug) They don't keep guys averaging double doubles and who rank in the top 10 of the ACC in scoring (Love and Bacot) like Carolina does. Must be nice.
College Basketball needs a strong Kentucky next year to counter what Chapel Hill is returning. (Four starters from a runner-up team. Though Manek is a big loss.)
Went to a frickin title game and they still keep their best players. WTF WTF WTF WTF
It's a reasonable question, too. I don't know why schools are in the entertainment business at all. Phys Ed., intramurals, and (maybe) club sports seem sufficient to keep their students healthy.Does UK give out degrees for playing bball? Serious question.
yet here you areIt's a reasonable question, too. I don't know why schools are in the entertainment business at all. Phys Ed., intramurals, and (maybe) club sports seem sufficient to keep their students healthy.
I follow sports. I'd follow whoever was around. If I could wave a magic wand, though, I'd get colleges and universities out of the entertainment business. (And the landlord business, too. If you've seen the campus recently you'll know what I'm talking about.)yet here you are
Can we getoff the floor?I have my reservations like I did with everyone putting UCLA #1 after last years tournament. Do I think they will be a Top 15-20 team yes….but without Manek and also without getting better defensively they have a ceiling.
For several years Duke didn't have to worry about losing players to the NBA either. Back in the 90s, Laettner, Hill and Hurley returned to win back-to-back titles. Would this have happened at any other school. I would say Duke benefitted more from this players staying more than any other program.NIL or no NIL, Chapel Hill does not lose players very early to the pros. Duke probably stands out here because they recruit as good as Kentucky but seem better able to get their elite players to become sophomores (Hurt, Williams, Jones, Moore, Kennard, etc).NIL or no NIL, Chapel Hill does not lose players very early to the pros. From my vantage point what turned there entire season around was clearly defined roles. They tried their most talented player Love as a ball dominate play making guard for the first half of the season and it was a disaster. Even in the final 4 Love had some truly horrendous turnovers trying to make plays because he is bad at it. But they got it sorted moved Love to SG and had him focus on scoring only and driving the paint and moved Davis to PG. They only played 6-7 guys and everybody in the rotation thrived at the same time with many less turnovers and slightly better defense. The UCLA thing is a very good point, my question would be did the Bruins just get hot for a couple weeks or did it start before that? In the case of Chapel Hill, they were catching fire by the mid-way point or a hair over the mid-way point of the season. They had the 20 point home loss to Duke in early Feb and then their absolute low point of the season was a terrible Pittsburgh team (who finished the season 11-21) coming into chapel hill and beating them. That was about mid-February I believe and after that Carolina changed and got better and better and they did not lose again until the semi's of the ACC Tournament against Va Tech. (VT blows out unc and Duke to win the ACC Tournament then loses in first round of the NCAA'S lol, go figure)
“Farm team” I remember we said that back in the mid 90’s. Then it was a compliment or a comment on how good we were. Different times.I thought we were told that every team players always leave it’s not just our team!Well only happens to our NBA farm team!
