Greatest generation was the parents of the boomers. Hands down, no question. They made this country great, and a good chunk of the world also
Yet according to people today they would be racists, white nationalists, misogynists, war mongers and poorly educated. In fact if there had been walmarts they would have loved it.

They deserve respect but let's not let the media rewrite the narrative for their own purposes

I've gone through three phases regarding age as an adult.
Too young to really know what I want, looked at the old folks, they had what they wanted.
Finally, found out what I wanted, didnt join the rat race.
Now, Ive become the got what I wanted guy, and some young punks are jealous, the whole time I was bustin arse earning what I wanted.
It doesnt matter, my folks didnt create their basement for me to live in, my kids never lived in mine, they wouldnt allow it.
Time to put on the big boy pants and get what you want, get out of the race, grow up.

I'm not a millennial. Boomers still screwed the pooch tho. Sorry so many are butthurt about that. Not sorry actually.
Actually the first years of the boomers are the spoiled ones who then screwed up their children, the last few years of the boomers are more conservative and didn’t spoil their children nearly as much as the earlier ones did

I’m 69 years old today...Vietnam Vet...Successful professional career..retired to a Lake house in central Nebraska. Worked hard and reaped the benefits. Nothing given, everything earned. I am extremely disappointed in what has happened in our society in the past decade...Too much finger pointing...too much hate mongering...no regard for each other.. Makes me very apprehensive for my Grandchildren. We all have a choice...

Yeah lucky we fought a war no one wanted and came home not to parades but to scorn.

Blue collar jobs are gone because of politicians allowing and companies migrating where workers are exploited. Niw we have a shortage of electricians and plumbers because kids went to college and racked up thousands on student loans and now think these jobs are beneath them.

We raised kids and gave them a better life than we had growing up now it's their responsibility to do the same. Can they I hope so but I have doubts
I wasn't blaming that generation for anything and I'm well aware of the politics that caused the job losses. I don't believe there is a shortage of blue collar workers in this country either.

I'm a little surprised at the response, as I was merely saying that generation had it pretty good by todays standards.

If people don't see theyve bought into something, by having to go get a diploma, they've won.
They have people thinking that way, calling decent work low level, therefore low pay, as they themselves don't value it, why pay much for it?
The systems got you, its up to you to set it right.

Is it this bleak though? I'm a son of a similar upbringing. We (my family) are advancing what would some would call a "head start" through the same hard work that got my parents there (boomers) to give us a better life. This is why I appreciate that generation, and at the same time have faith in mine going forward.

Yes the economy post war was good by the time boomers reached prime earning years not so good if you figure 1970 to 1980. As far as living standards there is a much better standard of living today than then. Yes the is a shortage of skilled and semi skilled labor which is one of the factors why there is a housing shortage

I would disagree with some of that.

If there is a housing shortage, it is because of 2 things.

1) lots of properties bought up by investors (many foreign & Chinese) over the last 10 years.

2) A massive influx of illegals over the past 5-7 years.

It has nothing to do with electricians or plumbers.

I am a Gen X and will be 50 this year, so I've caught the tail end of things, but the economy today has really deteriorated over the past 10 years. I'm starting to wonder if the boomers aren't a bit out of touch.

Hope it isn’t that bleak Blackshirt...But I can honestly say that I haven’t experienced such a divide in our country since the Vietnam War. This time however..every word..every act is magnified...which, in my opinion makes it so important that we all take time to try and understand each other and try to act in a reasonable manner instead of all the chest puffing BS that we are seeing now on both sides...Off the soapbox now..going back to my cocktail..GBR!

Very appreciative of the boomer generation, put my generation (X) in place to take advantage of lots of opportunities. As with most generations, not perfect (debt, racial and gender inequality, military still preparing to fight the last war, adversarial political system, etc.) but that is the role of the next generation to take on. As with most generations, Boomers will think the next generations are incapable but we’ll do fine and probably even better than our predecessors as the boomers did taking over from the depression era folks. So, start taking a step back and let the future generations take the torch...

No where close to a boomer, just sick of the political talk that isn't supposed to be on the forum.

I think there was a small wave of posts that were of that nature high up on page two, but in general there has been some thoughtful and reflective posts made by people just chatting. On a message board. On the internet.

No offense but don't make a big deal when there is not one to be made.

Enjoy your Friday brother.

That is my hope and yes I have stepped back but have a lot of doubts based on the line of thinking today that America is bad

I think the Boomer Generation gets a bad rap on this site because of the losses in the 70s and 80s. My Dad always said they were always just a "lil bit" better. I'll still take our history and current state any day of the week. Twice on Sundays.

If you arent invested, like a house, you'll be left out forever.
I see it can be tough today, but scraping and saving and working your tail off leads to a down payment on a house.
Each period of time, as it goes by, has fluctuations of ease or difficulty in buying a house, where you live in your investment as it earns you money.
We need people to make sure this keeps happenig, the American dream.
The stockmarket wasnt aswidely available back in the fifties, but people still earned money of other investments.
Nothing short term, that just rarely happens, but todays society needs towatch and keep their eyes on whats important, and what works, dont let others fool you.

I am pretty close to this so let me add my thoughts

1. Foreign and Chinese- mostly high end properties if they are rented fine. Housing shortage means both rental and owned. The problem with Chinese is many are left vacant

2. Illegal immigrants - actually help in many ways. Who do you think the roofers are today

Skilled labor requires a license which requires you to be a legal resident. The lack of skilled labor is a huge issue with builders both large and small and attracting kids into the field is a struggle. Electricians today in many cases are being paid huge salaries just to keep them

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ny...ess/economy-manufacturing-jobs-trump.amp.html

American manufacturers have added nearly half a million jobs since Mr. Trump took office, including for the last 19 months in a row. That streak, the longest since the mid-1990s, could hit 20 when the government releases March hiring data on Friday.

You do know that the deficit has also grown faster than anytime over the past 8 years, big government spending is the key economic driver of the Trump economy and our debt to GDP ratio is still growing due to reduced revenue due to Bush and Trump tax cuts. Trump has allowed grain prices to stay depressed as he could care less about the American farmer and I don’t like him (a draft dodger) making fun of former POWs and decorated military personnel.. he has allowed Putin, North Korea and Iran to make him their lapdog. He is a Democrat in all but name. The GOP needs to grow a pair and kick this liberal *** to the curb.. he is even historically pro choice... Reagan must be spinning in the grave...

Pretty awful. Has to be the worst generation of Americans, ever.
You may blame it on a generation or you may look at FDR and the New Deal... It could be argued that was the start of the problem... bigger government... then in the 60's Social Security was put into the general budget... It takes many years for the policies that give away so much free stuff to be felt by the country... politicians make promises that the next generation is libel for... There is no budget...

Not making a big deal, just pointing out that if you have a rule, you need to enforce it. If not, those in that small wave will push the envelope even further. It's human nature. You enjoy your Friday as well.

Ive avoided political talk.
Its too easy to do so.
The blame game goes nowheres, but allows those who profit to have others kick the can down the road for them, as they grow in power and wealth.
Looking over there when the real problems elsewheres is the topic du jour

Why u so damn bitter all the time. Not very Christian-like. Boomers set up a system that would benefit them at the expense of future generations. There's no disputing that.

Your parents screwed the pooch when it came to your education that is for sure. The boomers set up nothing, how dumb are you?
