No chance at all for the Cats to land him? Probably won't be checking it out then.

I wonder if it's Arizona. That's where he's going to high school, and the suddenness of this makes me think it might be him deciding "screw it, I'm staying pretty much where I am already".

But who knows? His whole situation has been messy from the get-go.

This also reads as a shoe company battle. Ayton played his AAU for a Nike team, but I think the basketball factory he's attending is sponsored by Adidas. Adidas seems to do the player manipulation game better than Nike when they put their mind to it (probably because Nike has more players, so any single one is less important to them), so that would mean Kansas.

Ok let's help Kansas out and go a head and start the he is a great kid and speaks seven languages and should be cleared by the NCAA even though he only has enough high school credit to be in his sophomore year of high school thread !!

Don't worry, Goodman will have a nice fluff piece tomorrow calling Ayton the greatest kid to ever live.

When your two offers you can actually accept are from Kansas and Arizona, there's a lot of work to be done.

I hate it, too. He's a fantastic player that would love to be at UK, but it's likely that we never see him play in college.

People guide these kids so terribly.

Interesting that both Arizona and Kansas are caught off guard by the announcement.
Cannot link.

I'll believe it when I see it. He's been practically begging for a spot here, but I haven't seen anything that indicates we'd actually take him. At least not for a while until things are sorted out.

So either Cal magically knows more than we do (for the first time ever, of course), we're taking him and still plan to recruit as if he's ineligible and tell other recruits that too (which seems unlikely), or he's not coming here.

OR!

We have a kid commit live on ESPN with no offer in the hopes that it lands him one.

God, what a circus recruiting is. We'll see, but unless things change, don't think we see him play for anyone, no matter what happens tonight.

I'll say this: if Enes Kanter can come hold a spot on the bench for a year, Ayton is definitely worth the risk. Unless you just know he'll cost you Bamba, you take him and figure it out later.

I mean, at this time last year, Skal was never gonna be eligible either. Who knows?

Ayton and Bamba would be a good fit. Ayton likes to play elbow high and work from the high post down. Killer mid-range game. Offense reminds me of Skal from what I've seen, but can bang down low a lot easier/effectively with his size

I thought he wasn't even going to be eligible? Do we even want him to commit and have it possibly cost us Bamba, who we know will be eligible? Whole thing is strange.

So, let me get this straight: he does not hold an offer from UK, he's announcing tonight on ESPN, it's between UK, KU, and Arizona, and Evan Daniels is hearing nothing but Kentucky? Anybody have a number to ESPN so I can set up my own announcement party? "Hey Cal...you don't know me, but I'm committing to the University of Kentucky!"

With UK staying quiet on this and the other schools being surprised by the announcement, we might have a chance here. Still thinking Ku though.

Who is to say he doesn't have an offer from UK? He may have gotten one recently and it was never revealed to media. Which also may be why the other schools are caught off guard by the timing.

According to Rivals he does in fact have an offer from UK

He wouldn't have to share the backcourt.

Hah! Sorry, of course meant frontcourt:)

I've just read in a few places (message board chatter) that Bamba doesn't necessarily want to share the big man spotlight. Could be wrong, of course!
